But I doubt this is the end of the legal fight. There was a rush of businesses on the fringe of the proposed city limits to be incorporated into Baton Rouge when the vote passed. Under Louisiana law, anyone living in a proposed city can contest incorporation. Kinda a bad look when your entire business community wants out

Even though they're both rural backwaters

Like Zachary and Central is EXPENSIVE AS FUCK to live in
  • Caesar3 minutes ago
Those other three school districts raise money to pay for that shti through taxes lol

EBR schools are basically ONLY in the city of Baton Rouge or in the unincorporated parts of the parish

We have 4 school districts presently: East Baton Rouge, Baker, Zachary and Central. The first is the parish, the rest are cities

How do the other towns pay for a school district?
  • Caesar6 minutes ago
Because they were literally like "We want our own school district so we're going to form our own city but we're not creating any taxes specific to said city."
  • Caesar7 minutes ago
This is why the parish president was fighting it
  • Caesar8 minutes ago
One would have to be created
  • Caesar8 minutes ago
    There is no school district
  • James9 minutes ago
How would that work? Our county changes the mill rate based on which school district you are in. Would it be similar?
  • Caesar11 minutes ago
Which makes their whole "we're doing this because we want our own school district" argument fall apart
  • Xixak11 minutes ago
    or maybe I'm a dumbass
  • Xixak11 minutes ago
    i'm ngl

They claim they can operate with no city specific taxes
