Can't Ban the Snowman: The Legend of Tony Snow
NOTES & QUOTES
Heat Starting Five: Antonio Snow, Mikal Bridges, Josh Richardson, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Hassan Whiteside
Summary: With all the pomp and circumstance that goes into the ring ceremony, some teams find it hard to pick up a win. The current record stands at 59-15. This is Miami’s fifth opening night as reigning champions and they’ve only lost once. Charlotte was on their way to making it two losses for the Heat, until they weren’t. The Miami Heat fans probably thought they were in the Twilight Zone for the first half as Miami couldn’t seem to throw a rock in the ocean, while Charlotte made nearly every shot they threw up. Kemba Walker kept things rolling for the Hornets with 17 points as Charlotte held a 50-42 lead over the reigning champs. Antonio Snow came out in the second half and exploded for 22 points in the third quarter. He dropped another 18 in the fourth quarter, while holding Walker to just 4 points in the second half.
Antonio Snow on his 54-point performance: First home game of the season. It’s ring night. Got the Vice City jerseys. It’s like my Black Panther suit.
Josh Smith on Antonio Snow’s performance: I had only seen highlights these past two seasons, but this guy is the real deal. He scores at will and still manages to shut guys down on defense.
Erick Spoelstra on Miami’s second half adjustments: There weren’t many adjustments. Just work on cleaning the glass more. Charlotte was getting a lot of second chance shots. The main thing for us was just to stick with the game plan. We didn’t need to panic. Tony stepped up and led his guys. He really lifted the team with his play.
