Lakers on brink of elimination following loss to Mavericks
Lakers will need a full team effort to force a game seven
Recap of Lakers/Mavericks game played on May 14, 2024

The Los Angeles Lakers felt like they had one slip away tonight in Dallas. With the series tied 2-2, it was going to take a full team effort from the whole Laker squad and they felt like they did that, but it just was not enough in the end. For the Mavericks, they didn't need a full team effort because they had two superstars who were due for a big game on the same night. Game five was that night. Luka Doncic scored 41 points and Kyrie Irving scored 39 points (the two scored 80 of the Mavs 109) leading the Mavericks to a game five victory over the Lakers, 109-105. Doncic scored 20 points in the first quarter alone while Irving scored 28 in the second half. The Lakers will be facing elimination for the first time since they played the Sacramento Kings in the final play-in game. If the Lakers can get a game six victory they will force and game seven back in Dallas.

Lakers blow fourth quarter lead, eliminated by Dallas
Up by nine, lose by eight in toughest way to go out
Recap of Mavericks/Lakers game played on May 16, 2024

The Los Angeles Lakers season is over. In the last six minutes of the fourth quarter the Lakers held a 100-91 lead and just like that their lead was gone and so was their season. The Dallas Mavericks behind Kyrie Irving outscored the Lakers 26-9 to advance to the Western Conference Finals, defeating the Lakers 117-109. The Mavericks knocked down seven three-pointers in the final six minutes of the game, Irving knocked down three of them. Irving finished with a game-high 42 points, six rebounds and six assists while Luka Doncic added 26 points, four rebounds and eight assists. Off the bench Tim Hardaway Jr poured in 19 points (5-of-9 3Ps). Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 26 points (13-of-21 from the field), 24 rebounds, six assists and seven blocks. LeBron James had 23 points, five rebounds, seven assists, but obviously his worst shooting game of the series, going 9-of-28 from the field. Austin Reaves chipped in with 23 points, hitting 5-of-8 from the three-point line and 8-of-14 overall. Now an off-season of uncertainty begins for the Lakers with a lot of questions to be asked and answered. The Mavericks advance to face the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals.

Are we calling time on the LeBron era in the offseason or trying to retool to get him one last championship in purple and gold?

I'm expecting him to opt-out using his player option and I'll look to re-sign him to a 3 year deal. First and foremost is the need for a backup center who can spell AD and not sure what to do with Russell. I need to look financially at what this team looks like and see if I'm comfortable with it or perhaps blow it up.
