The one thing that the Los Angeles Lakers were hoping before the season got underway was to see some consistency from notable players. Players such as D'Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, but now after eight games into the season questions still are being asked if that collective group of role players are the right ones. Taking on the Detroit Pistons in the final game of their three-game road trip, the Lakers were looking to ride the wave of momentum they've been on over the past week. They've won four of their last five games and coming off a huge win against the Bulls in overtime where LeBron James turned back to the clock, becoming the oldest player to ever score 40 points in a game, but like they say, the hardest game on a road trip is the last one. The Detroit Pistons who last season set an NBA record for most consecutive losses in a row have made some progress under Monty Williams and it's showed especially tonight as they defeated the Lakers 106-94. Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 24 points, seven rebounds and 13 assists while Jaden Ivey put up 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Alexandrae Sarr, the second overall pick in the draft added 19 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks. LeBron James led the Lakers with 25 points, hitting 10-of-23 shots from the field and Anthony Davis added 19 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, two steals and three blocks. Max Christie off the bench was the only other Laker in double figures with 10 points. Those four players mentioned - Russell (8 points), Vanderbilt (6 points), Hachimura (5 points) and Reaves (4 points) combined for just 23 points tonight, shooting 9-of-25 from the field. The Lakers return home for a matchup with division rival, the Phoenix Suns, which will be an In-Season Tournament group play game.
