Lakers take down Jazz behind big game from AD

James has off game, streak though continues

LeBron James nearly had his longest streak in NBA history come to an end if he hadn't scored the final two points against the Jazz in the Lakers 101-92 victory. James finished the game with 10 points, keeping his streak of consecutive games scoring double figures intact. Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 32 points, 16 rebounds, six assists, one steal and three blocks. Austin Reaves added 16 points, hitting 4-of-4 from the three-point line. Lauri Markkanen led the Jazz with 24 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals while both Collin Sexton and Walker Kessler each had 17 points a piece. The Lakers will travel to Minnesota for an in-season tournament group play game on Friday and then turn around and play Minnesota again on Sunday to finish out the week.

Lakers overcome fourth quarter deficit, beat Wolves, stay undefeated in pool play

For the second straight game LeBron James looked like a 39-year-old player in his 22nd season, that was until the fourth quarter came. James had scored just four points through the first three quarters and at times looked exhausted, but in the final five minutes of the game James flipped the switch on and led the Lakers to a come from behind road win over the Minnesota Timberwolves and remained undefeated in pool play with a 112-105 victory. James finished with 18 points, four rebounds, seven assists, but was a eye soar 4-of-18 from the field including 1-of-8 from the three-point line. He did hit 9-of-11 from the free throw line. Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 25 points, 17 rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block. D'Angelo Russell poured in 18 points as well along with three rebounds, eight assists and one steal. Russell was an efficient 7-of-10 from the field and 4-of-6 from the three-point line. Max Christie added 11 points, knocking down 3-of-3 from the three-point line and Christian Wood had 10 points in the fourth quarter alone. Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 27 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and one steal. Edwards had one of his worst shooting games of the season, going 9-for-27 from the field. Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 20 points, six rebounds, two assists and one block. These two teams will square off again on Sunday for the third time this season.

LeBron James missed his first game of the season Sunday night as his son, Bronny James made his NBA debut. The Lakers, winners of two straight and sitting in the top tier of the Western Conference took the opportunity to give LeBron a night off before a busy week coming up. Despite not having their leader, the Lakers had a one-point lead in the fourth quarter, 68-67 early on, but ultimately, the Minnesota Timberwolves were able to collect themselves and take control of the game late in the fourth and hand the Lakers a 93-80 loss. The Lakers outscored Minnesota 53-41 in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but were outscored 52-27 in the 1st and 4th quarters. Anthony Edwards led the Wolves with 20 points, four rebounds, six assists, three steals and one block. Karl-Anthony Towns added 16 points, six rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block. Buddy Hield led the Lakers with 13 points off the bench. Anthony Davis played on 21 minutes in the game, finishing with 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block. Christian Wood was stellar in the fourth quarter and finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, hitting 5-of-7 from the field. Bronny logged 12 minutes of action and finished 0-for-2 from the field and 1-for-2 from the free throw line, with two rebounds and two turnovers. The Lakers return home for a matchup with the Denver Nuggets which will be an in-season tournament pool play game.
