Another rivalry renewed as Battle of Texas to take place in the Western Conference Finals
AP April 27, 2026

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- The Dallas Mavericks shocked the NBA world when they traded away Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis earlier this season. In a move that widely panned around the league, Dallas still managed to finish with sixty-one wins and a top-two seed in the Western Conference while the Lakers fell one game short of the play-in tournament. The Mavericks are now four wins away from making it to their second NBA Finals in three seasons and eight wins from the franchise's second championship.

It's been a tough road for the Mavericks who were taken to a Game 7 by the seventh seed Golden State Warriors and if not for Stephen Curry missing the final two games, easily could have been bounced out in the first round. Dallas then avoided near disaster in the second round after jumping out to a 3-0 series lead only to lose three straight. In their second consecutive Game 7, Dallas was able to squeeze out another series win thanks to their surprising 'Big 3' of Jaden Hardy, Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson combining for sixty-nine points.

While Dallas has lumbered through the playoffs without star point guard Kyrie Irving, the Spurs have cruised to the Western Conference Finals, winning eight straight after dropping a Game 1 stinker against Phoenix. Victor Wembanyama has thoroughly outplayed the likes of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards but he now faces a formidable positional foe in Davis.

Projected starting lineups
San Antonio Spurs: De'Aaron Fox - Devin Vassell - Stephon Castle - Zion Williamson - Victor Wembanyama
Dallas Mavericks: Jaden Hardy - Klay Thompson - Josh Green - Anthony Davis - Dereck Lively II

Player to watch
Jaden Hardy, Dallas Mavericks -- Even if Irving returns at some point this series, Hardy will likely be the starter for at least half of this series. Hardy isn't the most efficient of scorers but in the playoffs, he's averaging 18.8 points per game and five assists per game as Dallas' primary ball handler. He needs to find the efficiency that made him a 46 percent shooter in the regular season while averaging nineteen points per game off the bench for the Mavericks compared to his 38 percent as a starter. If he's able to supplement the scoring of Anthony Davis and the shooting of Klay Thompson, he forces the Spurs to have to respect him as a threat and not focus their attention entirely on stopping Davis.

Storyline to watch
Where does Zion Williamson fit in this series? The Mavericks are the rare team that starts two traditional bigs in Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively II. Lively is an effective lob threat with thirteen points per game and does well on the boards and defensively with nine rebounds and two blocks per game. Ideally, San Antonio would love to place Wemby on him, negating him on the boards and allow Wemby to clog the paint but with Anthony Davis on the floor, it'll likely be a matchup of the two former number one overall picks. This leaves Williamson on Lively which presents some matchup problems for the Spurs due to the size disparity.

Prediction
Without Kyrie Irving for most of this series, it's tough to see Dallas winning more than one or two games. Even if they have a crazy Jaden Hardy or Klay Thompson game, the Spurs offensive firepower is too much. If we call AD vs. Wemby a wash and give Dallas the edge at the other big spot over Williamson, the Spurs still have the much better point guard matchup between Hardy and Fox, Thompson and Vassell are a near wash with perhaps a slight edge to Thompson on offense but a major edge to Vassell when you factor his defense and Stephon Castle is better than Josh Green. Pick: San Antonio 4, Dallas 2

Just took the last day to read this entire thing. Absolutely incredible job! Wemby must be so fun to play with. The trades to bring in Zion and Fox have complemented him tremendously and having Tre Johnson fall to you in the draft was a dream come true.

Questions:
- How do you choose which games you’re playing on the regular season and which you sim?
- How many games in the regular season do you play yourself?
- What difficulty are you playing on?

Game 1 ended up being a blow out but not gonna lie, they hung with us pretty well for the first two and a half quarters. We began pulling away in the third but Hardy had like 18 in the first half but then I put Devin/Castle on him and it was the end of that.

I still think they can win at least one game but them failing to take advantage of the "Jaden Hardy Half" leaves me to believe that this won't go 6, especially if AD keeps playing like this.

I try to play the more interesting games whether against other top players (TWolves with Ant, LeBron/Luka with the Lakers) or a rival (Mavs, Thunder, Rockets, etc.) as well as rotating it around so that I get a solid sample of the league by the time the game comes out.

I don't have an official count but I would say a third or so + all of the NBA Cup games

This is on HOF with some sliders I had found on that Other Site (OS).

Call me back when y'all get that chip.
