Big Investments.
On Nov. 8, Tiny Jimenez walked into his sports agency to ask some big questions.
"Hey, Paul." Tiny said to Paul, one of his financial advisors.
"I'm interested in making a big splash with my money & I wanted your input."
Paul nodded his head to Tiny as he motioned for him to continue.
"I was thinking that I'd like to get involved in the realm of team ownership.."
Paul proceeded to nod.
"But I needed to know some stuff. I know I don't have the money to open my own NBA expansion team, but what about getting in on the WNBA & opening a new team in.. say, Newark?"
".. So let me get this straight. You want to invest millions of your dollars into your own WNBA team?"
"That's correct.. I was looking online & noticed the cost was only around $15M-$20M to start-up.."
He pulled his phone out to Google the information being discussed.
"Wow. You're not lying. Now my curiousity has been piqued. I'll try to rally up as many potential sponsors as I can & go ahead & text someone at the WNBA on your behalf about opening an expansion team in Newark.." Paul said as he sent a quick text.
"Thanks, Paul! I'll do my part though. You don't have to reach out to the WNBA. I will."
"I can see it now. The Newark Black Panthers are crowned WNBA world champions. & there's me holding the trophy. Team owner..."
"Haha. The Black Panthers, huh? That actually sounds really good.. Not to mention the newfound rivalry between a team in Newark & New York.."
Tiny gestured his hands out in agreeance with Paul as the plan sounded better & better.
"The Newark Black Panthers might have to change.. Disney may not agree with me on that one.." Tiny said as he cackled.
"Well I'm looking forward to seeing where this could lead for you, Tiny.. Oh! They've already responded & said they'd love to hear more about expanding the league in New Jersey.. Looks like you're already in. Also what was that nonsense about you reaching out to the WNBA? I'll handle all of the paperwork & you focus on being an athlete as well as the face behind this idea."
"What about.. the Newark Power?"
"Newark Power... Has a nice ring to it. Guess we'll have to stay tuned for now.. Good luck tomorrow in San Antonio, by the way.
"Speaking of which, I should get going. Thank you for everything Paul."
The two ended their financial meeting with a new plan on the horizon. Tiny Jimenez may potentially be the next team owner in the WNBA.
