Rutgers forward Melvin Lytle (SR) hit 5 of 7 shots on his way to 13 points, 3 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals as Rutgers (4-5) defeated Central Arkansas (4-8) by a score of 73-59. The Scarlet Knights shot 60% from the floor including 8-15 from deep in the victory. For the Bears, Larry Earl (JR) played 31 minutes. Earl scored 13 points with 3 assists, 1 rebound, and 2 steals.

Rutgers (4-6, 0-1 Big Ten) made a run in the second half, cutting the deficit to 3 at one point, but ultimately fell short on the road, losing to Iowa (5-5, 1-0 Big Ten) 81-73. Rutgers forward Melvin Lytle (SR) poured in 16 points in the loss. Lytle also chipped in with 2 assists, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Cedric Alexander (SR) scored 20 points on 8 of 12 shooting. Alexander added 2 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Iowa forward Willis Farmer (JR) hit 5 of 8 shots on his way to 19 points, 1 assist, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal. Guard Renardo Rhodes poured in 16 points. Rhodes also chipped in with 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block.

Rutgers' fouling troubles returned in this contest as they held Iowa to 39% shooting but gave up a ridiculous 46 free throw attempts.

Rutgers (4-7, 0-2 Big Ten) held tough for 30 minutes, but ultimate was unable to get any offense going in the second half and fell to #20 Michigan State (8-2, 1-0 Big Ten) by the score of 74-64. For Rutgers, Melvin Lytle (F, Sr) scored 12 points on 4 of 8 shooting. Lytle added 1 assist, 7 rebounds, and 1 steal. Michigan State was led by guard Deon Smith (Sr) who poured in 22 points. Brandon Baker (C, So) scored only 4 points on 2 of 5 shooting. Baker led the Spartans at 18.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game coming in to the contest. He added 2 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block. Mark Michaels (G, Jr) played 12 minutes and scored 9 points with 2 assists and 1 rebound. Rashad Hill (G, Sr) scored 9 points.
