Nevada star forward Dante Jack expected to miss postseason with ankle injury

Nevada head coach Isaiah Mohammed spoke to the media on Saturday morning and confirmed that junior power forward Dante Jack has been ruled out for tonight's semi-final matchup against Utah State and will likely miss the rest of the post-season after spraining his ankle on Friday night.

In the 92-67 win over Louisiana Tech, Jack played nearly the entire first half before leaving the game with the injury and did not return. An already thin Nevada front court had to rely on a three-man rotation of Armando Michaud, Arthur Corner and Bilah Sylla -- a converted small forward -- to finish the game.

The highest ranked recruit on the team, Jack is averaging a career high 13.1 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game while leading the WAC with 2.7 blocks per game.

Historically, the Wolfpack have leaned on their side both in the regular season and in the postseason to get past typically smaller teams. Sylla, at six-foot-eight, is one of the smaller power forwards that Mohammed has ever played at Nevada.

Mohammed did not rule out burning the redshirts of freshmen Louis Rodriguez and Hakeem McKee -- both listed at six-foot-ten -- but said that the plan for tonight is to figure it out with Michaud, Corner and Sylla.

"We'll see how it goes," Mohammed said of playing the freshmen this late into the season for the first time, pointing to guard Wilder Farley's recent up tick in minutes as an indication that players can come on late into the season.

Farley scored 11 points in 12 minutes against Fresno State in the season finale after barely playing throughout the season. He played a similar role in the quarter-finals, being the first guard off the bench -- instead of Chris Bitee -- and scored five points off the bench.

"I feel confident in all of our guys to step in when asked upon and having an impact," Mohammed added, "[Rodriguez and McKee] have been busting their butt all year long so if we need them, they'll be ready."
