Mohammed believes Bison talented enough to turn season around despite winless start

After scoring just eight points in a half against Loyola-Maryland in what was the low point in a winless season, Howard followed it up with an inspiring performance against 4-1 Robert Morris, pushing the Colonials to overtime before falling 76-70 and suffering their sixth loss of the season. For a coach that has preached winning the DMV area when it comes to recruiting, the Loyola loss was a tough one to swallow and less than 24 hours later, they were up to bat again and were much better.

There was no moral victories in D-I basketball but for Howard head coach Isaiah Mohammed, it was a sign of things to come.

"We have the guys to do it," says Mohammed when asked if the Bison's slow start has him readjusting his expectations, "We can win the conference, I believe that and I know it sounds crazy standing here with our record but we've got guys."

Already lacking depth, the Bison are out a starter in Randy Hampton and reserve guard Dominique Davis is also going to be out for the next two to four weeks with an injury as well.

Sophomore Curtis White who flashed during the off-season and training camp has been dealing with an ankle injury for the first part of the season, averaging just 6.8 points per game and shooting a woeful 31 percent from the field. Yet, White says Mohammed is still his biggest fan.

"He puts the battery in my back," says White of Mohammed, "He does it for all of us and he keeps it confident that we can turn this season around and we want to prove him right. He's just a great guy to play for, great energy and just makes us want to be better for him and for ourselves."
