Should Howard be worried about Old Dominion's late push for Conley?
Stephen Israel -- HBCU Gameday Sports Writer

Howard men's basketball head coach Isaiah Mohammed has made Virginia Beach's Enrique Conley it's top and only priority this recruiting cycle with just one available scholarship. They've led wire to wire for his recruitment but at the eleventh hour, with a commitment looming, Old Dominion has appeared.

The Monarchs had Conley recently on a campus visit and the in-state school has emerged as a real threat to steal Conley's commitment. If they manage to do so, it would be a devastating blow to the Bison who have been waiting on Conley's commitment since the beginning of the winter and thought one could come at any moment.

If Conley does commit elsewhere, Howard would need to quickly scramble to replace to find a replacement this late. A name to watch is center Jave Starkey, a JUCO prospect out of Detroit that Mohammed had recruited as a high school senior to Georgetown before he academic concerns had him spend one season at the junior college level.

2008 Howard Recruiting Board
C Ernesto Gooding [C #8]: 6'10", 242lbs | Annapolis, MD | 3-star | Georgetown, Howard
C Enrique Conley [C #19]: 6'10", 256lbs | Virginia Beach, VA | 3-star | Old Dominion, Howard
C Jave Starkey [NR]: 7'0", 223lbs | Farmington Hills, MI [JUCO] | 2-star | Central Michigan, Howard

Conley heads to Old Dominion while Gooding, Starkey sign with Georgetown, Central Michigan
Stephen Israel -- HBCU Gameday Sports Writer

Isaiah Mohammed helped recruit much of the roster that helped Georgetown make five tournament appearances during his time there. His first stint as Howard's head coach and primary recruiter has been swings and misses.

Three of Howard's targets Ernesto Gooding, Enrique Conley and Jave Starkey have signed elsewhere with Goodin signing with Georgetown as expected and Conley, who had been trending towards Howard all year, deciding to stay in-state and go with Old Dominion. Michigan native Starkey also signed with a hometown team of Central Michigan.

Howard and Mohammed now have four weeks to try to salvage his first recruiting class. This late in the cycle, it will almost have to be the junior college route which they tried with Starkey as most of the high school recruits are committed and signed to programs.

2008 Howard Recruiting Board
C Ernesto Gooding [C #8]: 6'10", 242lbs | Annapolis, MD | 3-star | Committed to Georgetown
C Enrique Conley [C #19]: 6'10", 256lbs | Virginia Beach, VA | 3-star | Committed to Old Dominion
C Jave Starkey [NR]: 7'0", 223lbs | Farmington Hills, MI [JUCO] | 2-star | Committed to Central Michigan

Fool me once; can Bison fans be excited about walk-on Sinville's performance at Bison Madness?
Stephen Israel -- HBCU Gameday Sports Writer

Curtis White went for 23 points in last year's Bison Madness and went on to shoot 37 percent from the field and struggled for much of the season. White had another solid performance in Bison Madness with five rebounds, seven assist and three steals but the star of the show was six-foot-eleven center Schuyler Sinville, a walk-on that's rapidly become a coaches favorite this past summer and a fan favorite after his performance at Bison Madness.

Sinville led the way with 34 points and 9 rebounds along with three steals and a block as Team White fell to Team Blue 52-48. It was a more balanced approach on Team Blue as they got the win with Dominique Davis scoring sixteen points, Kyle Riley adding 11 and last year's two front court starters Eugene Myatt and Anthony Walker each added eight points.

Myatt or Walker could potentially lose their starting spot to Sinville who head coach Isaiah Mohammed has been a vocal fan of since Sinville first walked on to the team. Mohammed has spoken at length about wanting to get bigger up front and while they weren't able to do so on the recruiting trail, they did add two players above six-foot-ten in Sinville and Tracy See as walk-ons. See, who played with Team White, scored 12 points and 5 rebounds along with 3 blocks.

White's performance in the Bison Madness last season compared to his play during the regular season is cause for Bison fans to not put too much stock into Sinville's performance. However, with his size and style of play being closer to the basket, Sinville should be able to replicate at least a modicum of his production in the regular season as White's shots just weren't falling.
