Nevada's flaws exposed in first round exit by Rhode Island, what's next for the Wolfpack?
Jerry Howard -- Reno Gazette Journal Sports Writer
The Nevada Wolfpack fell to the Rhode Island Rams 75-65 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, ending their season and the program's streak of three consecutive appearances in the Sweet Sixteen, including making it to the National Championship Game last year.
The Wolfpack made just three three-pointers in the loss, attempting seventeen with Manourou Chavis struggling mightily in the game, shooting 0-of-8 from three and 1-of-10 from the field. By comparison, Nevada averaged seven made threes per game on 37 percent shooting, which led the WAC.
With Chavis' struggles, the Wolfpack didn't have a second scoring option from the perimeter with B.A. Barber and Darek Crawford unable to break free from Rhode Island's tough man-to-man defense. There wasn't much help off the bench either, a flaw that proved to be fatal for the Wolfpack with the two backup guards -- Elton Horton and Chris Bitee -- combining for a whopping zero points in eight minutes of play with just one shot attempt from Horton.
Nevada will need to improve from within heading into next season as the team is already at their scholarship limit with no incoming players. There are a few redshirts that could make an impact next season in Andriel Henson, a three-star prospect that redshirted this season and Wilder Farley who impressed the coaching staff throughout this season in practice.

With no available scholarships, Nevada gets a jump on 2017 recruiting class with a few lofty targets
Elton Hunter -- Reno Gazette Journal Sports Writer
Nevada will be bringing back their entire roster from last season and with no seniors on the roster, it also meant that the Wolfpack didn't have an available scholarship to offer this recruiting cycle. Head coach Isaiah Mohammed and his staff instead focused on next year's class with the Wolfpack getting their foot in the door for several top prospects as they head into their senior season.
The top target for next cycle might be Las Vegas' Lonnie Hope who is currently ranked as a five-star shooting guard. Hope has a top three of BYU, Utah State and Nevada and while his Mormon background has him as a heavy lean towards the Cougars, Nevada remains in the picture and could make a push in the coming months to land his commitment.
Another top guard prospect is Damir Krymski with the five-star catching the eye of Mohammed and his coaches this past summer in the AAU circuit where he averaged 11 points per game for a talented Sparx AAU squad. In-state UCLA, Pepperdine and San Diego State are going to be tough to beat but the Wolfpack have certainly given Krymski something to ponder as he heads into his senior season with a decision looming soon.
