EVERYTHING BIG

TEAM PREVIEW
Top Guns or Flameouts? Introducing Your 2022-23 Dallas Mavericks
Could this year be another step towards winning the Larry O'Brien Trophy? Or did we witness the team's peak in 2022?

Led by head coach Jason Kidd, the Dallas Mavericks notched the fourth seed in the western conference, beating the No.5 Utah Jazz (4-2) in the first round, and upsetting the No.1 Phoenix Suns in seven games in the second round before losing out in six to the eventual NBA Champion Golden State Warriors in the WCF round.

It was great step in the right direction for Mark Cuban's bunch.

This team looks to take another step behind the continual improvement and dominance of superstar Luka Doncic -- who took fifth place in the league's MVP voting last year, and will be a top MVP candidate this year once again. Doncic willed his team to a Western Conference Finals appearance last season, ultimately being knocked off by the champion Golden State Warriors and will surely be looking for revenge.

As a team, the Mavericks play a heavy drive-and-kick offense initiated by Doncic's super power-like abilities as a playmaker with plenty of spacing to get shooters in position to knock down threes and open jumpers. Last year Dallas tied for seventh in the league with 37.4 attempted three pointers per game, knocking down 35% of them -- good for 19th. However, the team scored just 108 points per contest, which was 24th. Expect that to climb this year.

This team has plenty of knockdown shooters and playmakers in the rotation with a really good depth that goes eight to 10 deep.

STARTERS

F | Reggie Bullock
A good wing defender and solid shooter from deep. Can defend multiple positions.

F | Dorian Finney-Smith
Another really good defender -- probably the best on the team. Similar to Bullock, but younger, more athletic, and has enough strength to bang down low.

C | Dwight Powell
Powell is really athletic and thrives in the pick-and-roll as the roll man and rim runner. He's a good hustle player and can extend the floor with decent range to his jump shot. Average defender and rebounder.

G | Spencer Dinwiddie
A great playmaker who can create his own shot and get to the free throw line. Might be the only guy in the lineup who isn't solely dependent on Doncic creating opportunities for him. He'll get buckets and play with good pace. A good option to give Luka a break from running the show 24/7.

G | Luka Doncic
Luka Legend. Luka Magic. Luka "The Don"... guy has a lot of nicknames! The kid (still just 23) that makes this engine run. He's the play initiator and stuffs the stat sheet every night. A perennial All-NBA player and MVP candidate in this league. This team goes as far as Doncic will take it.

KEY ROLE PLAYERS

G-F | Tim Hardaway Jr. ; C | Christian Wood ; F | Maxi Kleber
These three guys round out the top-eight of the rotation that heavily drive this team. All three could be potential starters elsewhere -- or even here, based on matchups. But because of Doncic, these guys are a solid core that can handle the load in his absence.

The three will most likely start most games on the bench, but finish them on the court. Wood brings all-star numbers over from Houston and can easily see the second or third most minutes on the team by the time this season reaches its end.

OTHER ROLE PLAYERS & RESERVES

G-F | Josh Green
Ht: 6-6, Player Type: Athletic two-way player with a nice knack to hit the three.

G | Frank Ntilikina
Ht: 6-5, Player Type: Solid defender.

C | JaVale McGee
Ht: 7-0, Player Type: Athletic defender and finisher as a rim runner.

G | Jaden Hardy
Ht: 6-4, Player Type: Rookie with potential to be a playmaker, shot creator, and, in time, a threat from deep.

F | Davis Bertans
Ht: 6-10, Player Type: Knockdown shooter. Weak defender.

ROUNDING OUT THE ROSTER

G Facundo Campazzo;
G-F Theo Pinson;
G-F Tyler Dorsey;
G McKinley Wright IV

SAD TO SEE THEM GO... (KEY LOSSES)

There were two key losses to this roster in Kristaps Porzingis -- who was traded midway through the year to Washington -- and Jalen Brunson who left for greener pastures to New York.

In the case of Porzingis, it was clearly just not a fit unfortunately, and the team has thrived since his departure. As for Brunson, it was just an opportunity for him to play for his father in New York and secure the bag in the process -- an offer Dallas couldn't and didn't match.

Brunson's playmaking prowess will be missed sorely. His production, especially in spell of Doncic was second to none, and he made his case to be a starter. This is the biggest question mark that the team must face -- how will the Mavs replace Brunson's productivity?

Appreciate the kind words. He's so good, so it's really fun playing with him. He should be able to get some MVP votes every year. His rhythm is slow man, have to get used to that haha.

Haha I think I'll stick with the team for now. I do not feel like messing with the chemistry at this time. Kemba Walker has a lot to prove in terms of his health, so we will see, but I don't plan on picking him up right now.
