NETS NEWS & NOTES

Nets Add Barnes, Hield, Bolster Up For Playoff Run Ahead Of Deadline

BROOKLYN -- After reports of the Nets mulling two offers to bring in either Harrison Barnes or TJ Warren, GM Sean Marks wasted little time, ultimately pulling the trigger on acquiring Barnes.

But, more unexpectedly was the addition of Buddy Hield, adding even more offensive power to the lineup.

"We're extremely deep now with playmakers and shot creators," said head coach Kenny Atkinson.

"We unfortunately had to ship out some tough veterans and a great young player [in Jarrett Allen], but I love the guys we got in return and the flexibility of our offense now."

THE BARNES DEAL:
Harrison Barnes / Dwight Powell to Nets, DeMarre Carroll / Jared Dudley / Nets '19 1st Rd Pick to Mavs

Barnes brings championship pedigree and has the potential to be an all-star caliber player in Brooklyn. Most importantly, he gives the Nets a legit scorer and shot creator on the wing from the small or power forward position, something that has been sorely missing from the lineup.

The Mavs are on the cusp of making the playoffs, but their movement towards youth here allows them to pick up another draft pick in a strong class - especially from an unknown Brooklyn team - with potential lottery odds. Either way, Barnes is on the last year of his deal and could easily walk.

THE HIELD DEAL:
Buddy Hield / Nemanja Bjelica to Nets, Jarrett Allen / Kenneth Faried to Kings

Another contract-year player picked up by Brooklyn ahead of the deadline in Buddy Hield. He offers the Nets another scoring option from the wing at the shooting guard or small forward position (at times), who can go off. He'll be a little more reliable than Allen Crabbe and is also better with the ball in his hands.

Bjelica offers great perimeter shooting from the power forward and center position - something that was non-existent in Brooklyn up to this point. Unfortunately, there are no legit centers left on the roster outside of Ed Davis now that Jarrett Allen has been dealt.

"Allen was a great piece to our team and he has the potential to be a 15-10 type of player and can grow to be an elite shot blocker, we'll miss him," said Atkinson.

The Kings, like Dallas, took the youth in return for a contract-player. Allen will pair with Marvin Bagley and De'Aaron Fox to form a young core with loads of potential moving forward.

not as good off the dribble in this version of the game as i thought he would be, still more of a catch and shoot guy. but i think the potential is there. and still an upgrade over crabbe, so im not mad.

depth chart (iirc):
DLo / Dinwiddie
Hield / LeVert / Crabbe
Barnes / Crabbe / Joe Harris
RHJ / Bjelica
Ed Davis / Bjelica / Powell

bro think about it this way - if we dont give up that 50-burger in the first, it's a game...

but oohwee this reminded me of how good these Warriors were. probably my favorite squad to watch all time. look at those ratings in the starting lineup :obama:

anyway, great test game. we're in 9th right now in the east, but i think we'll def make the playoffs and have a shot to win a series

Cousins was an absolute force, & arguably was the best center in the league at one time (offensive for sure)

I wish we could’ve seen a prime Cousins versus modern day Jokic & Embiid. I personally think he’d be up there with them.

YES! he was for sure on the Jokic level before the injuries. he was Jokic before Jokic, but better defensively - although the joker definitely dimes more, but Cuz had that ability too. dude was 25.2 pts, 12.9 rebs, and 5.4 ast per game - Jokic's first MVP season was 26.4 pts, 10.8 rebs, 8.3 ast... so very similar. wish he stayed healthy
