It's been a while since I played DDS College Basketball - Rolling on the 21 version for now! Been infatuated with a certain type of system, and will be trying to replicate it. Not really shooting for championships, maybe proving we can win one with it. Will be moving around to try it in different regions, conferences, and levels of competition.
Principles:
1. Push the Pace - Over 100 Possessions per game
2. Stretch the Floor - Behind the Arc, and get quick cuts to the rim.
3. Full Court Pressure - Tire out the opponent to make them make mistakes later in the game.
4. Deep Bench - 2 Platoon at times. 5 on 5 off.
5. Undersized but Athletic, good defenders
Recruiting Philosophies
1. B+ or Higher on Athleticism
2. B+ or Higher on Defense
3. B or Higher outside the arc.
Don't know if that will match the system completely yet, but we will see.

Kind of reminds me of a small school called Grinell or something like that who were running a system similar this. Will be interesting to see how it translates to bigger schools and in the game. St. John's fan here too. Good luck!

I've debated even posting this update, because I've seen it as kind of improbable. I've gotten extremely lucky. To the point where I feel like it's kind of ridiculous but I'll post anyways. Does the system work? Sure, but I got lucky with really good players right out the bat in the sim.
2020 - St. Johns 10-21
We started really hot. Starting the season 9-1 and we were playing ok. The system was struggling with fast break points, sitting in man after the press.
Decided to change it up. We would press initially, then fall into a 1-3-1 after the press. The results didn't reach benefits til 2021. We still weren't comfortable in the press or zone.
Offensively, we played more 5 out and Motion offense. Going from focusing outside or inside dependent on the game.
We were loaded with sophomores that had 6-7 guys with 4 1/2 potential. We were set, just needed a scorer and some time.
We had a big win over #3 UConn, but struggled in the Big East Moving forward. Lost 11 games by 3 points or less. We were primed.
2021 - St. Johns 33-4 National Champions/Big East Champs (Ridiculous)
We signed two guards that allowed us to be who we wanted to be. We had 11 deep, we had shooters, high level defenders. Neither signee was in the Top 100, but each averaged 16 per game.
We made it as a #1 seed, and ran the table. Winning 102-72 in the title game.
2022 - St. Johns 35-2 National Champs (Ridiculous)
We lost one of the guards but we gained 3 more that weren't as productive but it gave depth. Seeing as we were senior led, had a great scorer, and well within the system. We dominated the year. Losing the first game and one game in the Big East Tournament.
Moving Forward:
- I guess I am going to post, we'll see if the recruiting is good enough. Eventually will leave St. Johns and start fresh. For the meantime, ride out great players while you got them.
- The Big East is a guantlet. Vermont joined, but we've have 7 teams reach the Top 10 throughout the years. St. Johns, Nova, Georgetown, and UConn have all be #1's.
The System:
- When it's on, it's fun to watch. We will blitz a team for 10-12 points in a span of 90 seconds. Blink, and you're down 20.
- The depth really kills teams in the 2nd half. They're all deep in red fatigue. They can't make shots, and start to turnover the ball.
- We look to force an average of 22 turnovers per game.
- We've shot 40 threes in 30 games in 3 seasons.
- You're never out of a game.
- We transitioned from the 1-3-1 to a 2-3 in 2021 mid point. It's helped us immensely.
Recruiting the System:
- 2023 will mark a change in the system. We really only carry two bigs. Our 4 spot is SF's with length, and athleticism. We'll play small a lot and beat the piss out of teams.
- Big Teams haven't beat us in two years.
- It's easier to recruit guards and SF's than true bigs with athleticism.
Onto to 2023!

A year where we had one scholarship big as the experiment continues. We struggled early, but found our way.
All six losses had the same two ingredients.
- Teams shot crazy
- We shot bad
Both had to happen, and unfortunately it happened in the 2nd round.
Purdue made 18 threes, at a 53% clip. We only made 29% of our total shots, and 19% at three(4 makes).
