"With the 19th pick in the WNBA draft, the Indiana Fever select.. Autumn Jimenez from the University of Kentucky!"

The audience cheered as I looked down at my father's excitement. His oldest daughter is following in his hoops' footsteps, yet I did what he didn't do. I've been officially drafted into the WNBA.

"I'm so proud of you, Autumn! All of your hard work has paid off.. Now get up on that stage! I love you!" My father, Tiny Jimenez, said as he motioned for me to receive my first professional jersey after wrapping his huge arms around me.

"I love you too, Dad.."

Despite being the 7th pick in the 2nd round, I couldn't be more than excited to be drafted alongside my lifelong best friend, Shari Christmas. Shari was selected 8th overall to the Fever in the 1st round. We grew up together as our fathers are practically brothers after meeting in the NBA. We love each other so much that we both signed with Kentucky, & now here we are getting drafted to the same team in the WNBA. Life has a funny way of giving you exactly what you want sometimes.



"The Jimenez/Christmas connection continues in the pros! Congratulations, Autumn!" Shari's dad, Aaron Christmas, said to me on my way towards the stage.

"We're gonna be even better than you & my Dad ever were!" I said with a smile as he also gave me a big, welcoming hug to the next level.

"& we'll be right there cheering louder than anyone for that to happen.." Aaron said.

I accepted the jersey from the WNBA commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, as I then turned to celebrating my biggest day with family & friends before reporting for duty in a city I've lived in before when my dad played for the Pacers. Indianapolis.

My truest best friend, my ride or die, my twin sister AJ, is preparing for her UFC debut after dedicating her life to mixed martial arts. She's currently 7-0 as a professional fighter, & I don't expect she'll do much partying with us as her fight is just a couple of weeks away, but tonight we celebrate!
