Breaking News

The Washington Wizards are moving on from coach Wes Unseld Jr. after roughly three years with him on the job. Per the team, Unseld will move into a front-office advisory role as the team seeks to replace him. An interim coach is expected to be named soon and the team says it will “undertake a comprehensive search in the offseason.”

Unseld Jr. was named coach of the team on July 17, 2021 and went 77-130 in his 2 1/2 seasons with the team.

Michael Winger announced later on that Brian Keefe has been named interim head coach of the Washington Wizards for the remainder of the season.

Keefe was named the Wizards’ lead assistant in July after having spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets. He brings over 17 seasons of coaching experience to Washington, including stints as an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder (2019-20 and 2007-14), Los Angeles Lakers (2016-19), and New York Knicks (2014-16). Keefe began his NBA career as a video coordinator with the San Antonio Spurs from 2005-07, helping the team win the 2007 NBA championship.

The Wizards will undertake a comprehensive head coach search in the offseason.

Recap of Lakers/Warriors game played on January 27, 2024

1st Quarter
The Lakers and Warriors met for the first time since last season's Western Conference Semifinals where the Lakers eliminated the Warriors in six games. The Warriors wasted little time in striking first, rolling off the first seven points of the game capped off with a three-pointer from Jonathan Kuminga. Steph Curry knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter, his second one giving the Warriors a 17-4 lead. Curry's layup at the end of the quarter gave the Warriors a commanding eleven-point lead 24-13.

2nd Quarter
The Warriors continued to put it on the Lakers in the second quarter. Kuminga's second three-pointer of the game gave the Warriors a fifteen-point lead, 39-24. Down 41-28 the Lakers would finish the quarter on a 12-3 run to cut the Warriors lead down to four, 44-40 at halftime.

3rd Quarter
LeBron James opened the third quarter with a massive slam dunk that brought the Lakers to within two points, 44-42, but the Warriors rattled off eight straight points, pushing their lead back to ten, 52-42. The Lakers once again found themselves down by ten, 61-51, but went on a quick 7-0 run to make it a three-point game, 61-58. Cory Joseph would knock down a three-pointer to stop the Lakers momentum not once, but again when the Lakers cut the Warriors lead down to 64-60. Joseph's second three-pointer of the quarter put the Warriors back up by seven, 67-60. Klay Thompson knocked down a three-pointer before the quarter ended, giving the Warriors a 70-64 lead gong into the fourth quarter.

4th Quarter
Following a three-pointer by Dario Saric to start the final quarter and giving the Warriors a 73-64 lead, the Lakers scored twelve unanswered points that at first tied the game 73-73 and the Lakers took the lead, 76-73 when LeBron James hit a three-pointer. Steph Curry would hit all three free throws after he was fouled attempting a three-pointer and tie the game 76-76 and several possessions later put the Warriors up by four, 84-80. LeBron James responded with a three-pointer of his own bringing it back to one-point game, 84-83. Klay Thompson put the game away knocking down a three-pointer with thirty seconds left in the game and the Warriors up by eight, 91-83. The Warriors went on to win by the final score of 97-90.

Yeah AD has been up and down this season. I'm not sure how much that has to do with the production that I'm getting from Christian Wood. Wood is averaging 10.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg in 18.0 mpg, shooting 54.2% from the field, 40.8% from the three-point line and 76.7% from the free throw line. AD is playing twice the minutes (36.3 mpg) and averaging 22.0 ppg, 16.7 rpg, shooting 50.2% from the field, 32.3% from the three-point line and 77.3% from the free throw line.

Lakers flex their muscles in victory over Rockets

1st Quarter
The Lakers and Rockets squared off for the final time this season with the Lakers having won two of three so far in the season series. The Lakers jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead thanks to Taurean Prince who knocked down his first two shots of the game. Fred VanVleet knocked down a three-pointer that cut the Lakers lead down to one, 9-8. Up by nine, 30-21, the Lakers got back-to-back three-pointers from Christian Wood and Rui Hachimura, giving them a 36-21 lead after the first.

2nd Quarter
The second quarter was a high scoring stake as both teams scored over thirty points. The Lakers led by as many as seventeen points in the second quarter, 51-34 when D'Angelo Russell buried a three-pointer. The Houston Rockets cut the Lakers lead down to eleven, 61-50, but the Lakers scored the final five points of the quarter to take a 66-50 lead at halftime.

3rd Quarter
LeBron James layup gave the Lakers a 70-57 lead during the third quarter, but the Rockets cut into the Lakers lead with an 11-5 run, 76-70 on a Jalen Green slam dunk. LeBron James hit two free throws pushing the Lakers lead back to eight, 78-70, but then the Rockets went on a 7-2 run, bringing them to within three, 80-77. Jermaine Samuels Jr. knocked down a three-pointer just as the quarter was ending, but the Lakers still had a two-point lead going into the fourth quarter, 87-85.

4th Quarter
LeBron James scored ten points in the fourth quarter including two big three-pointers, the first one giving the Lakers a 99-90 lead and the second, putting any chance for the Rockets to come back out of reach, 117-99. D'Angelo Russell and Anthony Davis both had double-doubles in the game as the Lakers got their first win on their road trip, 120-107 the final in Houston.
