Lakers Sign D'Moi Hodge to Two-Way Contract
July 8, 2023

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard D’Moi Hodge to a two-way contract, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka.

Hodge, played his final collegiate season at the University of Missouri where he averaged 14.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.6 steals in 29.1 minutes, while shooting an SEC-best 40.0 percent from 3-point range. Hodge led the conference in both total steals (91) and steals per game as a Tiger. Prior to Missouri, Hodge played at Cleveland State University (2020-22) and the State College of Florida (2018-20).

Lakers Sign Colin Castleton to Two-Way Contract
July 8, 2023

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed center Colin Castleton to a two-way contract, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka.

Castleton appeared in 26 games (all starts) in his final season at the University of Florida, averaging 16.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 3.0 blocks in 31.2 minutes, earning him All-SEC First Team honors. The 2023 All-SEC Defensive Team selection led the conference in blocks per game, good for the third-best mark in the NCAA. During his collegiate career, Castleton averaged 10.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.7 blocks in 20.9 minutes while shooting 53.7 percent from the field.

Lakers Sign Christian Wood

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed center Christian Wood, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka.

Christian Wood appeared in 67 games (17 starts) with the Dallas Mavericks last season, averaging 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 blocks in 25. 9 minutes, while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from 3-point range. Last season, Wood notched 12 double-doubles and scored in double figures in 54 games, including 25 contests scoring 20 or more points. Wood blocked at least one shot in 42 games last season, including 17 games with multiple rejections and two games in which he swatted a season-best five shots.

Through seven NBA seasons with Dallas, Houston (2020-22), Detroit, (2019-20), New Orleans (2018-19), Milwaukee (2018-19), Charlotte (2016-17) and Philadelphia (2015-16), Wood has appeared in 289 career games (139 starts), posting averages of 14.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 24.2 minutes, while shooting 51.8 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from beyond the arc.

Wood played two seasons (2013-15) at UNLV, appearing in 63 total games (34 starts) and averaged 10.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 23.3. minutes.

At the present time none that I can think of, but that can change as the season goes on. If I find myself in the same hole that the Lakers were in following the in-season tournament then I'll have to evaluate internally again. If there's one area that needs an upgrade or improvement it would be the backup center position because Hayes is tall and athletic, but I don't see him being a defensive force like AD. That's where a player like Andre Drummond to me is a better fit. He's a guy that can come in off the bench and play 10-14 minutes a game and all you need him to do is rebound and rim protect. If you get some offense out of him consider that a bonus. Even at his age right now, Dwight Howard is another big that fits the same role. I will from time to time see what the market looks like for a few players using the trade finder system and post those results.

Recap of Lakers/Nuggets game played on October 24, 2023

1st Quarter
The Los Angeles Lakers got off to a very hot start, jumping out to a 10-2 lead thanks to Taurean Prince, who scored 8 of the Lakers first 10 points (2-2 3PTs). The Nuggets showed their championship poise and didn't panic, but rather settled down and erased the Lakers early lead. Reggie Jackson's dunk with 3:09 to play in the quarter gave the Nuggets their first lead of the game, 16-15. Nikola Jokic extended that lead to three points, 18-15 with a layup, forcing the Lakers into a timeout. The Lakers responded with a 13-2 run to end the first quarter up by eight, 28-20. First Quarter key stat: Three-point shooting. Lakers (6-13, 46%), Nuggets (0-2, 0%).

2nd Quarter
The Lakers increased their lead to ten with a jumper by Russell to begin the quarter. Two minutes later, Russell knocked down a three-pointer that gave the Lakers a twelve-point lead 37-25. The Nuggets once again responded in championship form, going on a 12-2 run and cutting the Lakers lead to a single basket, 39-37, but didn't get any closer as the Lakers, for the second straight quarter, finished on an amazing run, this time a 16-7 run, including their biggest lead of the game, thirteen points, 55-42. First Half key stat: Three-point shooting. Lakers (11-25, 44%), Nuggets (4-13, 31%). Points in the paint (Lakers 14, Nuggets 24)

3rd Quarter
Austin Reaves began the second half knocking down a three-pointer and giving the Lakers what would be their biggest lead of the game, fourteen points, 58-44. A three-pointer by LeBron James put the Lakers back up by twelve, 65-53 with 8:45 to go in the quarter. Over the next three minutes the Nuggets went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead down to four points, 65-61. Following a slam dunk by Rui Hachimura, pushing the Lakers lead back to six points, 67-61, the Nuggets again went on a furious run as they scored eight straight points in just under a minute and taking the lead, 69-67. Anthony Davis would finish the quarter off scoring the last four points as the Lakers recaptured the lead heading into the final quarter, 71-69. Third Quarter key stat: Turnovers (Lakers 5, Nuggets 0)

4th Quarter
As the fourth quarter began, these two teams would trade baskets back and forth (2 ties and 8 lead changes) in the first five minutes of quarter.
Nikola Jokic gave the Nuggets the lead 79-78, but the Lakers caught fire from the perimeter, scoring on three-pointer after three-pointer, asserting themselves with eleven straight points and taking a double-digit lead, 89-79 with 4:48 remaining. The Nuggets got to within five points, 89-84, but D'Angelo Russell, was just lights out from the three-point line as he knocked down three more in the final four minutes of the game, ensuring the Lakers a victory on opening night, 104-97.
