Lakers set a season low with 19 assists in loss
Recap of Lakers/Timberwolves game played on December 21, 2023

1st Quarter
In a matchup with the top two teams in the Western Conference, LeBron James missed his third game of the season. Anchored by back-to-back three-pointers from Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns, the Timberwolves took an early twelve-point lead over the Lakers, 16-4. The Timberwolves kept their double-digit lead for most of the first quarter and ended with a fourteen-point lead 36-22.

2nd Quarter
The Lakers tried to cut into the Wolves lead, but couldn't get any closer than ten points, despite their three-point shooting being one of their lone brightspots of the game. Anthony Davis hit a free throw that cut the lead down to ten, 59-49, but the Wolves ended the first half with an 8-1 run that increased their lead to seventeen-points at halftime, 67-50.

3rd Quarter
The Wolves opened up the third quarter increasing their lead to twenty-two, 74-52. D'Angelo Russell knocked down two straight three-pointers, making the score 74-58. Several minutes later Anthony Davis hit a three-pointer to cut the lead down to eleven, 76-65. Later in the quarter, a three-pointer from Kyle Anderson put the Wolves back up by seventeen, 86-69. 4th Quarter
Naz Reid hit two three-pointers to begin the fourth quarter for the Wolves, increasing their lead to 98-81. The Lakers got it down to twelve on a three-pointer by D'Angelo Russell, 99-87, but Minnesota responded and after a Karl-Anthony Town dunk had their biggest lead of the game, nineteen points, 108-89. The Lakers looking for one last run to get back in the game, found it and went on a 13-1 run to cut the lead down to seven-points, 109-102. Cam Reddish hit a jumpshot that cut the lead down to six-points, 110-104, but on the next Timberwolves possession Karl-Anthony Towns was fouled on a three-point attempt, sending him to the free throw line for three shots. Towns knocked down all three free throws, putting Minnesota up 113-104. Anthony Edwards would seal the game with a three-pointer with nine seconds left as the Timberwolves defeated the Lakers 116-109.

Lakers deliver ultimate Christmas present with fourth quarter comeback against Celtics
Anthony Davis game saving block highlighted dominant fourth quarter
Recap of Celtics/Lakers game played on December 25, 2023

1st Quarter
The NBA's most storied rivalry added another chapter into the historic matchup and it was certainly a Christimas the Lakers will remember. Both the Lakers and Celtics are at the top of their conferences and have gotten off to great starts this season. LeBron James got this game started with a slam dunk down the middle of the lane, with a beautiful back cut. Boston would take the lead, 5-4, when Jayson Tatum scored on a layup and after Derrick White knocked down two free throws, the Celtics had a six-point lead, 14-8. Down, 17-12, the Lakers cut the Celtics lead down to one with a layup by Anthony Davis. The two teams exchanged three-point baskets as Kristaps Porzingis gave the Celtics a 20-16 lead and Anthony Davis responded cutting the deficit back to one, 20-19. The Celtics though would end the first quarter on an 11-2 run and lead by ten going into the second quarter, 31-21.

2nd Quarter
Boston scored seven of the first nine points of the quarter, extending their lead, 38-23. LeBron James scored six straight points, bringing the Lakers to within eight points, 45-37, but the Celtics began hitting three-point shots and increased their lead back to fourteen, 57-43 when Derrick White knocked down a three-pointer. The Lakers then went on a 14-4 run, cutting the Celtics lead down to four, 61-57. Despite LeBron James hitting a jumpshot that beat the buzzer, the Celtics led at halftime, 64-59.

3rd Quarter
The Celtics dominated the first part of the third quarter, scoring the first eight points and going up 72-59. Down, 81-68, the Lakers went on a 13-4 run bringing them to within four, 85-81. The Celtics responded with a big 17-4 run to finish out the quarter and take a seventeen-point lead, 102-85 into the fourth quarter.

4th Quarter
The Lakers found themselves down by eighteen in the early minutes of the fourth quarter after Sam Hauser knocked down a three-pointer. Down 105-87, the Lakers went on a 13-0 run highlighted by D'Angelo Russell, Taurean Prince and LeBron James knocking down back-to-back-to-back three-pointers. Peyton Pritchard hit a three-pointer for the Celtics, pushing their lead by up to eight, 108-100. Austin Reaves responded by knocking down a three-pointer of his own, making it a five-point game, 108-103 and then Taurean Prince would ingnite to crowd with a slam dunk and then tied the game up with a three-pointer from right in front of the Lakers bench marking the Lakers fourth quarter run at 23-6. On the Celtics next possession Kristaps Porzingis hit a jumpshot from the corner, giving the Celtics the lead back, 110-108. Following a defensive stop the Lakers got in transition and LeBron James found Rui Hachimura on the wing for a three-pointer that gave the Lakers the lead, 111-110 (their first lead since the first quarter), but Kristaps Porzingis would knock down a three-pointer of his own as the Celtics reclaimed the lead 113-111. The Lakers got the ball in the post to Anthony Davis and as the Celtics defense collapsed on him, he found Austin Reaves open in the corner who knocked down the three-point shot, giving the Lakers a one-point lead, 114-113. The Lakers stopped the Celtics on their next possession and Rui Hachimura found himself at the free throw line after attacking the basket. Hachimura hit both free throws, giving the Lakers their biggest lead of the game, three points, 116-113. Jayson Tatum knocked down a jumpshot just within the three-point line, cutting the lead down to one, but Austin Reaves hit both free throws after being intentionally fouled, putting the Lakers back up by three, 118-115. Jrue Holiday scored a layup, making it 118-117 before the Celtics were forced to intentionally foul again. The Lakers got the ball to Reaves who made one of two free throws. Holding onto a two-point lead, 119-117, Kristaps Porzingis was called for an illegal screen giving the Lakers back the ball with eight seconds left. The Celtics intentionally fouled LeBron James who missed both free throws. The Celtics got the ball and called their final timeout. With 8.2 seconds left on the clock Al Horford got away from Anthony Davis, but Davis recovered to come up with the game saving blocked, swatting the ball off the backboard. The ball however found its way into the hands of Horford who turned and passed the ball in the corner to Jayson Tatum who got off a three-point shot, but Rui Hachimura contested and the shot hit the back of the rim and off to the left at the buzzer. The Lakers held on for a 119-117 win over the Celtics, outscoring them 34-15 in the final quarter.
