Lakers let one slip through their fingers without superstars in lineup

LeBron sits out, AD exits after first quarter, Lakers fall to Minnesota

After a grueling six game road trip, the Lakers were looking forward returning to home. They however have found that home is just as grueling as the road. LeBron James sat out tonight's game against Minnesota and Anthony Davis exited the game following the first quarter meaning the Lakers would need some players to step up. As a team they did, but unfortunately it wasn't enough as they dropped a heartbreaker to the Timberwolves, 125-123. D'Angelo Russell led the team with 26 points and four assists and Austin Reaves finished with 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Jaxson Hayes who took over for Davis when he left the game went for 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists, hitting 9-of-12 shots from the field. Anthony Edwards put up a game high 42 points along with six rebounds and five assists while Rudy Gobert added 20 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks, hitting 10-of-16 shots from the field. The loss puts the Lakers half a game behind New Orleans for the seventh seed just half a game ahead of the Kings who are in the ninth seed. Both the Lakers and Kings have 34 losses on the season, but Sacramento holds the tiebreaker having won the season series 3-1. The Lakers also have lost the season series to the Warriors with one game still remaining which is now a crucial game.

Lakers lose third straight as Warriors sweep season series

The Los Angeles Lakers dropped their third straight game and finished up the home portion of their season with three straight losses. The latest coming from division rival, the Golden State Warriors who swept the season series over the Lakers with a 107-93 win. LeBron James led the Lakers with 23 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists and three blocks as the Lakers were without Anthony Davis. D'Angelo Russell added 19 points, but was 6-of-20 from the field and 2-of-12 from the three point line. The Lakers as a team shot 6-of-31 from the three point line while the Warriors hit 18-of-48. Steph Curry scored a game high 32 points along with six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Klay Thompson added 21 points and Andrew Wiggins put up 18 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, two steals and three blocks. The Lakers now go back on the road to finish out the season with games in Memphis and then New Orleans. The Lakers will need to win both games to avoid playing in the 9-10 spot of the play-in tournament.
