The Lakers took a quick seven-point lead, 13-6 on a Rui Hachimura three-pointer, but the Pistons were able to tie the game up 19-19 on a slam dunk by former Laker, Troy Brown Jr. The Lakers finished the quarter on an 11-0 run, seven of those points courtesy of D'Angelo Russell, as the Lakers held a 30-19 lead after one.

The Lakers continued to increase their lead as the second quarter got underway. The Lakers lead was up to twenty-one, 42-21 on a Taurean Prince dunk. Newly signed Laker, Spencer Dinwiddie pushed the lead to twenty-seven points following a layup, 55-28. Cade Cunningham's three-pointer as the second quarter game to a close, cut the Lakers lead down to twenty, 55-35.

Spencer Dinwiddie's three-pointer before the quarter ended gave the Lakers a commanding 86-57 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
