Los Angeles Lakers re-sign LeBron James

LeBron James will finish his illustrious career as a Laker. It's only fitting that James be in the same company as Kareem, Magic, Worthy, West, Baylor, Wilt and Kobe as all finished their careers in the purple and gold.

James will be entering his 22nd season and will turn 40 in December. James opted out of his contract back in June to sign a new three-year deal that includes a no trade clause. James is set to make $49.99M this season and then $53.99M next year and $57.99M at the age of 42.

Last season James played in 71 games (the most games he's played in a single season for the Lakers and the most since he played all 82 games in the 2017-18 season). James averaged 27.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game while playing an average of 36.2 minutes. His field goal percentage (50.3%), three-point percentage (32.4%) and free throw percentage (77.8%) were all up from the previous year. He also had 34 double-doubles and six triple-doubles. He also surpassed 40,000 points for his career. James also set a career-high for blocks in a single game with eight and tied his career-high for most rebounds in a single game with 19. He was named All-NBA 1st Team for the 14th time in his career and also was selected to his 20th All-Star game.

James still hopes that he will be able to share the floor with this son Bronny James, who was a part of the 2024 NBA Draft. He was not selected in the draft, but was signed by the Lakers immediately following to an Exhibit-10 contract. He will play for the Lakers Summer League team in the hopes he can take one of the three available two-way spots the team has.

Los Angeles Lakers sign Buddy Hield

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed forward Buddy Hield, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka.

Hield started the season with the Indiana Pacers and was traded at the trade deadline to the Philadelphia 76ers. Hield averaged 13.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game in 25.3 minutes while appearing in a league-high 84 games. He finished 12th in three-point field goal percentage (42.8%), hitting 242-of-566.

Hield was originally drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2016 NBA draft with the sixth overall pick. He was named to the All-Rookie 1st Team in his rookie season. Hield was traded to the Sacramento Kings on February 20, 2017, along with Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway and a 2017 first-round and second-round draft picks for DeMarcus Cousins and Omri Casspi. He was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month twice (December 2016 and March 2017).

In the 2018-19 season, Hield averaged a career-high 20.7 points per game and also set a Kings record for most three-point field goals made in a season with 245 (surpassing the previous mark held by Peja Stojakovic with 240 in 2003-04).

In the 2019-20 season, Hield signed a four-year extension, but eventually lost his starting spot, but the move to the bench produced a boost in his production and efficiency. In his second game off the bench against the Minnesota Timberwolves on January 27, 2020, he scored a career-high 42 points. Afterwards, Hield dedicated the game to his idol Kobe Bryant, who had died in a helicopter accident the day prior. During All-Star Weekend, Hield participated in the Three-Point Contest and went on to win the event, topping Devin Booker 27-26 in the final round.

In the 2020-21 season, Hield became the fastest player in history to make 1,000 three-pointers, needing only 350 games to reach the mark. On July 29, 2021, it was reported that the Kings were moving towards a deal that would send Hield to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for forwards Kyle Kuzma and Montrezl Harrell, but the deal fell through as the Lakers ended up trading Kuzma and Harrell in a package to the Washington Wizards for Russell Westbrook.

In the 2021-22 season, Hield, Tyrese Haliburton and Tristan Thompson were traded to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Justin Holiday, Jeremy Lamb, Domantas Sabonis and a 2023 second-round pick.

In the 2022-23 season, Hield became the second-fastest player in NBA History to reach 1,500 career three-pointers, only behind Stephen Curry. He also set a Pacers franchise record with 288 three-pointers made in a season, surpassing Reggie Miller. Hield and teammate Tyrese Haliburton were selected to participate in the 2023 NBA Three-Point Contest during NBA All-Star Weekend. Both teammates lost to the eventual winner, Damian Lillard.

In the 2023-24 season, Hield changed his jersey number for the first time in his career, switching from 24 to 7. On February 8, 2024, Hield was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in a three-team deal involving the San Antonio Spurs. Hield played in all five playoff games for the 76ers in the first round against the New York Knicks. Hield averaged 14.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 19.2 minutes per game.

Drummond recorded a career-high 29 rebounds against the Pacers on November 3, 2015. On November 8, he recorded 29 points and 27 rebounds, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain as the only players with three 20/20 games in the first six games of a season which earned him Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the second time in his career. On January 20, 2016, Drummond set an NBA record for most free throws missed in a game with 23, surpassing the previous record of 22 set by Wilt Chamberlain. He also set a career high and franchise record by attempting 36 free throws. Drummond was selected as a reserve for the Eastern Conference in the 2016 NBA All-Star Game. He also participated in the Slam Dunk Contest during NBA All-Star Saturday Night.

Drummond re-signed with the Pistons on a five-year, $130 million contract. He recorded his tenth 20 point / 20 rebound game of his career against the Milwaukee Bucks with 20 points and 23 rebounds. He became the second-youngest player to reach 4,000 career rebounds, trailing only Dwight Howard. On January 30, 2018, Drummond was named to his second All-Star Game, replacing John Wall who was injured.

Drummond was traded on February 6, 2020 to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Brandon Knight, John Henson, and a 2023 second-round draft pick. Drummond and the Cavaliers reached a buy-out agreement on March 26, 2021.

Two days later, Drummond signed a 1-year contract with the Lakers. With the Lakers, he played 21 games-all starts-and averaged 11.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 24 minutes per game. Despite being healthy, he did not play in Game 6 in the first round of the playoffs against the Phoenix Suns when the Lakers were eliminated 4-2.

In the 2021-2022 season, Drummond signed a 1-year contract worth $2.4 million veteran's minimum contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. On February 10, 2022, Drummond was traded along with Ben Simmons, Seth Curry and two future first-round picks, to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for James Harden and Paul Millsap.

In the 2022-23 season, Drummond signed a two-year, $6.6 million contract with the Chicago Bulls.

On June 29, 2023, Drummond exercised his player option with the Chicago Bulls.

Los Angeles Lakers re-sign D'Angelo Russell

The Los Angeles Lakers have re-signed point guard D'Angelo Russell it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka.

Russell opted out of his contract before the start of free agency and now has a new three-year deal. Last season Russell appeared in 76 games (69 starts) and averaged 15.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.9 assists in 32.6 minutes. In nine seasons, Russell has suited up for the Lakers, Nets, Warriors and Timberwolves with career averages of 17.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.7 assists in 30.2 minutes.

Russell was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Russell participated in the 2016 Rising Stars Challenge during All-Star Weekend. Russell earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors.

Following the 2016-17 season, Russell was traded, along with Timofey Mozgov to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Brook Lopez and the rights to Kyle Kuzma, the 27th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Russell had secretly recorded teammate Nick Young admitting that he had cheated on then-fiancee Iggy Azalea, which played a role in him being traded according to then Lakers Director of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson.

In the 2018-19 season, Russell was selected to the Eastern Conference All-Star team as a replacement for Victor Oladipo. Russell helped the Nets finish the regular season as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs with a 42-40 record.

On June 28, 2019, the Nets extended a qualifying offer to Russell in order to make him a restricted free agent.

On July 7, 2019, Russell, Shabazz Napier and Treveon Graham were traded to the Golden State Warriors as part of a sign-and-trade package for Kevin Durant. Russell averaged a career-high 23.6 points per game in his lone season with the Warriors.

On February 6, 2020, Russell was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves along with Jacob Evans and Omari Spellman for Andrew Wiggins, a 2021 protected first-round draft pick (Jonathan Kuminga), and a future second round draft pick. Russell fulfilled a dream of playing together with his close friend Karl-Anthony Towns.

On February 9, 2023, Russell was traded back to the Los Angeles Lakers in a three-team trade involving the Utah Jazz, sending Mike Conley Jr. and Nickeil Alexander-Walker to Minnesota.

Russell re-signed with the Lakers on July 7, 2023.

Way to reload. Desperately needed a true backup big man and another bucket-getter. Hield and Drummond should certainly fill those holes.

A tale of two halves for Lakers in Summer League opener
Eleven point lead at halftime turns into nine point defeat against Grizzlies
The Lakers returned to the court in Las Vegas at the annual NBA Las Vegas Summer League. In the past the Lakers have been known to travel with quite the fanfare and this year seemed just a little different with the addition of Bronny James. Bronny handled himself like a professional, but after the game you could see the disappointment on his face as the Lakers gave up an eleven-point halftime lead and fell to the Memphis Grizzlies 110-101. Jalen Hood-Schifino led the Lakers with 19 points, hitting 8-of-15 from the field. Yves Missi, the Lakers first round draft pick had seven points and nine rebounds and Tristan da Silva, the Lakers second round pick finished with 10 points, three rebounds and five steals. Second year forward Maxwell Lewis added 11 points, knocking down 3-of-3 from the three-point line. Max Christie was scoreless in 18 minutes, only attempted two shots. Bronny James played 24 minutes and finished with 13 points (5-of-11 FGs), four rebounds and six assists. The Grizzlies were led by Tyrese Prosper, an undrafted rookie point guard from Duke University finished with 29 points (12-of-18 FGs) and 10 assists. The Grizzlies first round pick, Robert Dillingham had 19 points (8-of-13 FGs) and G.G. Jackson II had 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
