Lakers suffer another loss to another top conference opponent
Team is in midst of three-game losing streak during homestand
Recap of Thunder/Lakers game played on January 15, 2024

1st Quarter
The Lakers and Thunder have squared off twice this season with both games in Oklahoma City and the two teams splitting them. The Lakers are in the middle of what is a very home favored part of their season, or so they thought. Six of their seven games so far this month have been played at Crypto.com Arena and while it got off to a great start with them winning the first two games, they have suffered losses to the Clippers and Suns. The Thunder came in as the top team in the Western Conference and winners of four in a row. The Lakers only lead of the entire game came when D'Angelo Russell put them on the scoreboard with his first three-pointer of the night, giving them a 3-2 lead, but the Thunder erased that on their next possession. Shai-Gilgeous Alexander scored 11 points in the quarter, just a small part of what his team did overall. The Thunder as team knocked down six three-pointers in the quarter, finishing with a 41-16 lead.

2nd Quarter
The Lakers were having trouble making shots and also were turning the ball over. Meanwhile the Thunder just kept attacking and attacking. The Lakers managed to get the deficit down to twenty-two points by halftime, 65-43.

3rd Quarter
The third quarter continued with the Lakers still having trouble knocking down shots, but thankfully the Thunder were having problems of their own in that area. The Lakers couldn't gain any ground on the Thunder and the Thunder were unable to put more separation between them. The Thunder finished the third quarter, holding a 90-66 lead.

4th Quarter
The Thunder bench was on the floor for most of the fourth quarter and they even increased their lead over the Lakers. Ousmane Dieng hit a three-pointer that put the Thunder put by thirty one, 104-73, which turned out to be their biggest lead of the game. LeBron James scored the last nine points of the game for the Lakers, but the only thing that did was keep his consecutive games of scoring in double digits going as the Thunder defeated the Lakers 114-92.

Lakers snap three game losing streak, come from behind to defeat Mavericks
Down by four with two minutes in the game, Lakers score 11 unanswered
Recap of Mavericks/Lakers game played on January 17, 2024

1st Quarter
The Lakers have shown that no deficit is big enough to where they can't come back and get a victory. They did so Christmas Day against the Celtics and tonight taking on the Dallas Mavericks, they once again showed that with just two minutes left to go in the game, it's not over til it's over. It was a high scoring first quarter for both teams. The Lakers took an early four-point lead on a LeBron James fadeaway, 11-7. A layup by Luka Doncic cut the Lakers lead down to one, 13-12. The Lakers went on a 13-5 run, taking a nine-point lead 26-17 with a jumper from LeBron James who scored nine of those thirteen points. Anthony Davis hit two free throws to give the Lakers a 36-29 lead after one.

2nd Quarter
Neither team held a lead bigger than four points throughout the quarter. The Mavericks relied on the three-point shot (they made five of them in the quarter) while the Lakers relied on attacking and getting to the free throw line. The Lakers held a slim three-point lead until Kyrie Irving tied it all up 51-51. A jumpshot by LeBron James put the Lakers up by two, 55-53, but Luka Doncic hit two free throws to tie the game, 55-55 heading into halftime.

3rd Quarter
Neither team could break open the game during the third quarter. Luke Doncic started the quarter off knocking down a three-pointer, giving Dallas a three-point lead, 58-55. James returned the favor a few possessions later, hitting a three-pointer of his own to tie the game 60-60 and then again on a layup, 62-62. The Mavericks hanging around took a four-point lead after Seth Curry knocked down a three-pointer, 84-80. Maxi Kleber gave the Mavericks a four-point lead heading into the fourth quarter with a three-pointer of his own, 87-83.

4th Quarter
The Mavericks took a 92-88 lead when Jaden Hardy hit a three-pointer, but the Lakers came right back with five straight points to take a one-point lead, 93-92. D'Angelo Russell hit two free throws that gave the Lakers a one-point lead, 100-99. After Luka Doncic hit a jumper that gave Dallas a one-point lead 103-102, Tim Hardaway Jr. knocked down a three-pointer, putting the Mavericks up by four, 106-102 with just under two minutes remaining. Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves combined to score eleven unanswered points and the Lakers captured a 113-106 win over the Mavericks and put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Lakers comeback victory capitalized on Russell's buzzer beater
Down by 20 in the first quarter, the Lakers put up a 30-point turnaround in the next three quarters
Recap of Nets/Lakers game played on January 19, 2024

1st Quarter
The Lakers would like to forget the first half of the first quarter as they played their worst basketball of the season and it showed on the scoreboard. The Lakers were down 21-3 midway through the quarter. Those three points for the Lakers all came from the free throw line. The Brooklyn Nets increased their lead to twenty points, 31-11, but the Lakers finished the quarter on a strong note. The Lakers outscored the Nets 17-6 to get the deficit down to single digits, 37-28.

2nd Quarter
The Lakers continued to battle back against the Nets in the second quarter. Cam Thomas knocked down a three-pointer that put the Nets up by twelve, 48-36. The Lakers got some unexpected offense by rookie Maxwell Lewis in the second quarter. Lewis came in the game and immediately made an impact. With the Lakers down by nine at this point, 52-43, Lewis knocked down a three-point shot and then came back with a slam dunk, cutting into the Nets lead, 52-48. The Nets leading 54-48, the Lakers would hit back-to-back three-pointers by Christian Lewis and Maxwell Lewis tied the game 54-54. The Lakers had come back from twenty down to tie the game. Christian Wood hit a three-pointer just before the end of the quarter, sending the game into halftime all tied up at 62-62.

3rd Quarter
During the third quarter the lead was changing almost every other possession. The Nets opened the quarter scoring the first five points, giving them a 67-62 lead. The Lakers scored the next five points to tie the game up 67-67. D'Angelo Russell scored the Lakers eight points of the quarter as the Lakers were holding on to a two-point lead, 96-94 heading into the fourth quarter.

4th Quarter
The Lakers came out in the fourth more aggressive and it turned into them creating some space from the Nets. With the game tied 98-98, the Lakers went on a 12-2 run to give them their biggest lead of the game, ten points, 110-100. Russell again, was the catalyst, having scored eight of those twelve points. There was still more than six minutes left in the game as the Nets responded with a quick 8-0 run of their own, pulling them to within two, 110-108. Up 117-110, the Lakers looked like they were ready to close the book on the Nets, but the Nets defense forced the Lakers into some crucial turnovers that they capitalized on quickly. Bridges scored five of the next seven points to tie the game 117-117. With the Lakers up by two, 122-120 the Nets attacked the basket where Nicolas Claxton was able to score on a layup, again the game now tied 122-122 with 1.5 seconds left. The Lakers called a timeout to advance the ball and on the inbounds play they got the ball to D'Angelo Russell who turned and squared up and hit a game winning buzzer beater from behind the three-point line, completing yet another Lakers come from behind home victory this year, 125-122.

Lakers outworked by young Blazers in defeat
Playing down to the level of the competition proves costly in the end
Recap of Trail Blazers/Lakers game played on January 21, 2024

1st Quarter
The Lakers and Blazers squared off for the final time this season. The Lakers won the previous two games this season, although the young and inexperienced Blazers held their own in both meetings. Minutes later LeBron James scored five straight points increasing the Lakers lead to ten, 17-7. Blazers rookie Scoot Henderson made an immediate impact off the bench in the quarter. Henderson scored 10 points late in the first quarter and cut the Lakers lead in half down to five heading into the second quarter, 27-22.

2nd Quarter
During the second quarter the Blazers took the lead on a Scoot Henderson jumpshot, 35-34. The Blazers took a six-point lead when Malcolm Brogdon and Jerami Grant knocked down consecutive three-pointers. Portland hit five three-pointers in the second quarter and hit 13-of-17 free throws while shooting 65 percent (11-of-17) from the field. Scoot Henderson put the Blazers up by ten, 62-52 late in the quarter. The Lakers allowed 40 points in the second quarter, a nine-point swing and they were down 62-58 at the half.

3rd Quarter
In the third quarter the Blazers continued to get great performances from everyone. Anfernee Simons put up nine points while Malcolm Brogdon and Jabari Walker each had six points a piece. Christian Wood kept the Lakers in the game, scoring 13 points in the quarter. The Lakers bench provided 19 of the 29 points for the team in the third and were still trailing by four, 91-87 going into the fourth quarter.

4th Quarter
Portland quickly went up by eight early in the fourth quarter, 97-89, but the Lakers responded with a 9-2 run to cut the defict to one, 99-98. Anthony Davis tied the game up at 101-101 with a three-point play and then again on the next offensive possession with a jumper, making it 103-103. Austin Reaves hit a three-pointer to give the Lakers a late three-point lead, 106-103. The Lakers were clinging to a one-point lead, 110-109, when Jerami Grant knocked down a corner three-pointer, giving the Blazers the lead 112-110. Deandre Ayton would put the game away on the next possession, with a hammering dunk as the Blazers held on for a 120-112 victory over the Lakers.
