1st Quarter
The Lakers travelled to New York for a matchup with the Knicks as a result of both teams not advancing to the Knockout Stage of the In-Season Tournament. The Knicks struck first thanks to Jalen Brunson who scored six of their first eight points, but back-to-back three-pointers by D'Angelo Russell and Max Christie, gave the Lakers a 10-8 lead early on. The Lakers used a 9-2 run to take their biggest lead of the game, seven points, 19-12 on a three-pointer by Rui Hachimura. The Knicks would bounce back and cut into the Lakers lead, but the Lakers took a 23-22 lead into the second quarter.
2nd Quarter
The Knicks started heating up during the second quarter. They weren't just settling for jumpshots, they were attacking the basket and scoring or getting to the free throw line. Back-to-back dunks by Mitchell Robinson, gave the Knicks their biggest lead of the game to that point, seven points, 39-32. Jalen Brunson knocked down a jumper to increase the Knicks lead to eight, 41-33 and then the Lakers went on a 14-4 run down the stretch of the quarter and retook the lead, 47-45. The two teams exchanged the lead back and forth until Austin Reaves hit a three-pointer as the quarter was ending, sending the Lakers into halftime with a two-point lead, 52-50.
3rd Quarter
LeBron James who didn't score a single point in the first half, finally got on the board as the second half began. James mid-range fadeaway gave the Lakers the lead 54-52 after the Knicks had tied the game up on the first possession of the half. Holding a four-point lead, 63-59, the Lakers went on a 9-0 run to give them their biggest lead of the game, thirteen points, 72-59. Quickley knocked down back-to-back three-pointers, bringing the Knicks to within seven points, but Anthony Davis put the Lakers back up by double-digits with a three-pointer of his own as the quarter came to a close. The Lakers went into the fourth quarter up by ten, 81-71.
4th Quarter
Down by double digits for most of the first part of the fourth quarter, the Knicks finally got the Lakers lead down to a single basket 89-87, but Taurean Prince knocked down timely three-pointer, giving the Lakers a 100-91 lead. Jalen Brunson hit a three-pointer, cutting the Lakers lead to 103-99, but Austin Reaves knocked down two free throws and then the Lakers defense forced Julius Randle to throw the ball out of bounds on the Knicks next and last offensive possession of the game. Anthony Davis would hit one of two free throws as the Lakers went on and defeated the Knicks, 106-99.
