NBA|CROSSOVER
Snow Impresses During 6 Game Win Streak

By Andrew Sharp December 18, 2018

The Miami Heat have been making a lot of changes early in this season and they have been getting a lot of criticism because of it. Pat Riley seems intent on building the team around his young point guard Antonio Snow, the streetball star that made his name on the courts of Miami and later across the globe in Europe and South America. Snow played in some of the biggest overseas tournaments there was, including the Quai 54 tournament in Paris, where he went head to head against some of the NBA’s best.

Snow has a had a few missteps this season, as any rookie would, but he seems to be coming along quite well and after his performance against the New Orleans Pelicans, helping his team erase a 23 point deficit at the start of the third quarter, he looks ready and willing to take the reins for this Heat team as they prepare to reload for seasons to come.

Snow averaged 26.3 points per game during the entire 6 game road trip. He scored a career high 33 points against New Orleans. Riley seems to be on the right track with this diamond in the rough, let’s hope his gamble pays off. If he keeps this up, he may be on his way to earning Rookie of the Year honors for 2019.

“I think he’s doing extremely well for a rookie,” said veteran Dwyane Wade. Wade has been serving as a mentor for Snow this season. The two first met in Chicago during Snow’s Nike sponsored streetball tour. They’ve been in touch ever since. Wade actually recommended Snow to Riley.

“He takes his lumps and he dusts himself off and gets right back up. He’s beginning to understand that this a long season and we have to take it one game at a time. His background gives him a real high motor, as we saw the other night in New Orleans. He just took over in that fourth quarter on both sides of the ball. He definitely makes the game more fun.”

The other veterans on the team share Wade’s sentiments.

“He definitely brings another level to it. It’s been a lot of fun. Even the losses don’t seem that bad,” said Carmelo Anthony.

The Heat are currently third in the Eastern Conference behind Philadelphia and Toronto. And they are looking to make a serious playoff run.

NOTES & QUOTES

Heat Starting Five: Antonio Snow, Dwyane Wade, Josh Richardson, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Hassan Whiteside

Summary: The Houston Rockets had gone 2-3 in their last five games before coming into Miami, losing two straight games to Utah and Washington. The Rockets have lived and died behind the three point line for most of the season and tonight they lived. Houston drained shots from beyond the arc early and often hitting 7 of 10 in the first half as they established a 13 point lead at the end of the second quarter.

Antonio Snow was carrying the load for his team with 18 first half points.

Carmelo Anthony was brought in to play defense on James Harden and it was effective as the Heat managed to slow down his scoring and climb back in it. Miami managed to get within two points before the Rockets brought in Gerald Green who nailed some long distance shots to build the lead back up.

Hassan Whiteside struggled to get anything going offensively tonight, hitting only five of his twelve shot attempts in the loss.

Chris Paul finished with a double-double tonight scoring 13 points and dishing 10 assists.

Key Stats for HOU: 41/80 (51%) - FG|12/30 (40%) – 3PT|6/9 (67%) – FT | 23 – Fastbreak Points| 46 – Points in Paint|19 – Bench Points|42 – Rebounds|2 – Steals
Key Stats for MIA: 39/69 (45%) - FG|5/13 (38%) –3PT|17/22 (77%) – FT | 19 – Fastbreak Points|36 – Points in Paint|30 – Bench Points|44 – Rebounds| 8 – Steals

James Harden on stopping the losing skid: We knew we had to get after it tonight. Couldn’t let those two losses turn into three in a row. We also knew it wouldn’t be easy. They’ve been on a roll lately, but the shots were falling. Hopefully, we can get back on track.

Erik Spoelstra on Miami’s poor shooting: We shot less than 50% tonight and that’s never good. Threes weren’t falling. The one good thing we had tonight were free throw attempts. We were aggressive in the paint, but we just fell short.
