NOTES & QUOTES

Heat Starting Five: Antonio Snow, Dwyane Wade, Josh Richardson, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Hassan Whiteside

Summary: The Miami Heat traveled to Atlanta to take on the Hawks. Three weeks ago, they lost to Atlanta by 12 points and they were looking to even the series. Hawks rookie point guard Trae Young has been on a tear lately, putting up over 30 points against Charlotte in the Hawks’ last win.

Miami started the game playing tight defense as they took a 30-20 lead in the first quarter. Trae Young got hot in the second quarter, leading Atlanta to taking a 7 point lead at halftime. Miami’s second unit seemed to be running out of gas as Atlanta continued to build a lead. The Hawks finished with five players in double-digit scoring.

Despite his best efforts, Antonio Snow could not give his team the league. He had an opportunity to tie the game, but his foot was on the line, so he was only awarded two points leaving the Hawks up 112-111.

Key Stats for MIA: 50/88 (57%) - FG|3/13 (23%) –3PT| 38 – Fastbreak Points|82 – Points in Paint|6 - 2nd Chance Points| 54 – Bench Points|36 – Rebounds
Key Stats for ATL: 38/68 (56%) - FG|3/11 (27%) – 3PT|12 – Fastbreak Points|72 – Points in Paint|12 - 2nd Chance Points| 21 – Bench Points|47 – Rebounds

Antonio Snow on missed opportunity to tie the game: It was just one of those moments, you know? I thought I had cleared the line, but I hadn’t. But you don’t want games to have to come down to the moment. I can’t just look at that one thing as the reason we lost, just like it wouldn’t have just been that one thing if we had won the game.

Trae Young on Atlanta’s win streak: It’s a long season. There’s still a lot of basketball left to be played, but going on runs like this is always great for morale and I’m just happy I can do my part in the wins.

NOTES & QUOTES

Heat Starting Five: Antonio Snow, Dwyane Wade, Josh Richardson, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Hassan Whiteside

Summary: The New Orleans Pelicans continue to struggle with the absence of Anthony Davis who is out with knee tendinitis. They expect him to be out for another three weeks, hopefully, the Pelicans’ morale won’t be too far down the drain as they have now lost their 7th game in a row.

Michael Beasley made his debut for the Miami Heat after being signed two days ago. He got off to a solid start scoring 10 points in his debut. This is Beasley’s fourth stint with the Miami Heat since he was drafted by Miami in 2008.

Miami came out hot, hitting 8 of their first 9 shots. New Orleans knocked down a few threes early to hang around as they found themselves down 36-40 in the first half. The teams battled back and forth through most of the game, until a scoring surge by Miami’s Antonio Snow to give the Heat a double-digit lead. He knocked down back to back threes in the fourth quarter to keep Miami’s lead growing late. Miami only made four three pointers the entire game. Despite struggling from the outside, they dominated the paint.

Key Stats for NO: 35/72 (49%) - FG|7/16 (44%) – 3PT|12 – Fastbreak Points|42 – Points in Paint|28 – Bench Points||20 – Assists| 30 – Rebounds
Key Stats for MIA: 44/76 (58%) - FG|4/11 (36%) – 3PT|28 – Fastbreak Points|62 – Points in Paint|46 – Bench Points||28 – Assists| 43 – Rebounds

Michael Beasley on playing in Miami: Excited to be back. Hopefully, the fourth time is the charm, you know. It’s great being out here again. I was drafted here, I love playing for this organization. I think we have all the makings of a great team.

Alvin Gentry on the losing streak: It’s a struggle without A.D., but we’re trying to make it work. The pat few nights, it hasn’t been working for us. But we can’t abandon our game plan all together. We just need to tweak a few things.

Antonio Snow on bouncing back after the loss to Atlanta: It’s a long season. I can’t dwell on games like that. I put up the same numbers against the Hawks, but the result wasn’t quite the same. I just have to keep coming out and playing my game.
