I’m standing in my closet trying to decide what to pack for All-Star Weekend in Atlanta. I will be performing in every event from the Rising Stars challenge to the actual All-Star Game on Sunday night! To say I am stoked is a severe understatement.

I tossed a couple pairs of Ralph Lauren Purple Label jeans in my suitcase when I heard my phone ringing. I immediately recognize Cassie’s ringtone.

“What’s up, girl?”

“You are hard to pin down.”

“How so?”

“I haven’t heard from you in like two weeks.”

I grimace a little at that. She didn’t sound mad or anything, but the phone conversations had slowed down a bit since she first called after the Portland game. It was just a quick text every now and then when I could manage it. I have been on fire this past month and Tyler was trying to line up all types of deals for me. When I’m not in the gym, I’ve been in meetings and when I haven’t been in meetings, I’ve been asleep or spending time with my family.

“I’ve just been grinding.”

“I see that. Fifteen game win streak, huh?”

“Shit yeah. Fifteen straight wins! Longest ever in franchise history.”

“I saw the little article they did on you for Slam.”

“Oh, so you reading up on your boy?”

“Between that and ESPN, it seems like the only way I’ll be able to catch up with you.”

“Damn, you making me feel bad.”

She laughed. “I’m kidding. I was actually calling to let you know that I will be in Atlanta this weekend. So, maybe we can catch up.”

I smiled to myself. Glad I hadn’t ruined everything.

“That could work. Um, I’m sure we can go to dinner somewhere. I know all your people are gonna be there. Gabby and D. Wade and all of them.”

“Yeah, that’s why I’m actually free for the weekend. But I was thinking we could go somewhere just us two?”

“Um, yeah. We could do that. Fa sho.”

“We’re staying at the Glenn.”

“Oh, you fancy, huh? I’m at the Omni. Taking a flight out tomorrow morning. I have some promo stuff to do on Friday morning before the game that night.”

“Well, I’ll be in town on Thursday night so we can do dinner then.”

“It’s a date. I’ll pick you up from the airport.”

“It’s like that?”

“If I’m nothing else, I am a gentleman.” I walk pass the mirror and catch myself smiling like a 15 year old. I shake my head, but I can’t stop smiling.

“Well, I’ll let you go. I have to be on set early tomorrow morning. But I will see you tomorrow night?”

“You said it’s a date. Can’t take it back now.”

“Oh, I’m trying to find out what’s in the sauce. Later, Morgan.”

She didn’t even give me a chance to respond. I’m still smiling when I hang up the phone. Stop being a damn goober, Morgan.
