NBA Institutes Sweeping Changes after Voided 2019-20 Season
ESPN.com
The Associated Press
By Adrian Wojnarowski

NEW YORK, NY --- The NBA has decided to completely overhaul the structure of the league in the fallout of the voided 2019-20 season. The league elected not to complete the campaign because of the COVID-19 outbreak, and has now decided to make fundamental long-term changes that it believes will result in a better product. Firstly, the season length is being drastically decreased from 82 to 29 games. Each of the 30 teams will play each other once per year in a round robin style tournament in order to qualify for the playoffs. Regarding the playoffs, those have changed significantly as well. The top 16 teams regardless of conference will qualify now, and instead of 7-game series, the league will be moving to a single elimination tournament akin to the NCAA's Sweet Sixteen. This change will make the playoffs much more unpredictable, make every regular season game count, and allow for some serious upsets and surprises to occur. Adam Silver also believes this will put an end to tanking, as even a 16th seeded team can win the NBA title just by performing extremely well for four games.

The league also explored adding a tournament to earn the #1 pick in the lottery, but that has been tabled for now. The draft lottery will occur as per usual in the coming days.

Denver Nuggets Pull of Shock Win in NBA Draft Lottery
ESPN.com
The Associated Press
By Marc Stein

SEACAUCUS, NJ --- The NBA Draft Lottery is over and it is the Denver Nuggets, the team with the 2nd worst lottery odds, who have come away with the #1 pick in the NBA Draft. They defied the odds to get this pick and with them already having a strong core of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and others, this could be the stroke of luck that elevates these young Nuggets to title contention for the foreseeable future. Two teams with past and present ties to Michael Jordan, the Chicago Bulls and Charlotte Hornets, rounded to the top 3. The big losers were the Detroit Pistons New York Knicks, who came into the lottery with the first and second best odds of winning and end up with just the 4th and 5th picks respectively. This is an interesting draft where there is no unanimous choice for the #1 overall selection, with Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball and James Wiseman all in contention for that elusive spot.

Final Lottery Results
1.) Denver Nuggets
2.) Chicago Bulls
3.) Charlotte Hornets
4.) Detroit Pistons
5.) New York Knicks
6.) Cleveland Cavaliers
7.) Washington Wizards
8.) Minnesota Timberwolves
9.) Indiana Pacers
10.) Phoenix Suns
11.) San Antonio Spurs
12.) Sacramento Kings
13.) New Orleans Pelicans
14.) Utah Jazz

Nuggets Shock with World, Take Okongwu 1st, Ball and Wiseman go 2nd and 3rd
ESPN.com
The Associated Press
By Marc Stein

NEW YORK, NY --- The Denver Nuggets ignored all the experts, and instead of taking Edwards, Ball or Wiseman #1, reached for Nigerian power forward, Onyeka Okongwu with their first overall selection. His fit with their team is better, but it's a questionable move to not go for the best player available with their pick. The Bulls, Hornets and Pistons quickly capitalized on this by selecting LaMelo Ball, James Wiseman and Anthony Edwards respectively with the next three picks. There wasn't a lot of movement on draft night but there was one big trade in which the Timberwolves formed a big 3 of Karl Anthony-Towns, D'Angelo Russell and now Blake Griffin, by trading their 8th overall pick to the rebuilding Detroit Pistons.
