The game was £5.99 on steam, I had £2.50 leftover in then wallet, so technically this game was £3.49 for me. Crazy. I'm influenced a lot by spiderxx7 (Thierry) to do this, having re-read much of his River Walk Chronicles at NLSC.

2019/20 Minnesota Timberwolves preview • The new kids on the block
nba.com/timberwolves/season-preview | October 1st, 2019

ICYMI

Well, that was nice while it lasted. Just when the Timberwolves thought they were back amongst the cool kids, they swiftly found themselves at home on Saturday nights, again playing video games. What was supposed to have been a sustained end to their 13-year playoff drought in 2018 lasted just that lone appearance. Outrageous melodrama swamped them last season, triggered by Jimmy Butler's trade demands and the eventual firing of Tom Thibodeau. They backslid by 11 victories, from 47 to 36, and seem destined to go backward again before they go forward

THREE POINTS
1. Russell All-Star? D'Angelo Russell was thrown away by the LA Lakers before becoming an all-star with the Brooklyn Nets. He continued that form for the Golden State Warriors before being sent to the Timberwolves to help rebuild the franchise alongside Karl-Anthony Towns. Russell has to perform at an all-star level if the Timberwolves are going to have a meaningful season.

2. Okogie for the defense. The second-year wing was thrown into some tough defensive assignments as a rookie, so he’s a candidate to resume that role this season. If, that is, he can justify long minutes on the floor with some improvement as a shooter (especially from deep)

3. Keeping Towns happy? He's one of the best players in the league on one of the worst performing teams. Something has to give. If the Timberwolves don't start winning soon, Towns may just request for a trade out of town. Bringing in players such as D'Angelo Russell and Ben McLemore help the Timberwolves becoming more relevant, but they need to produce to results to keep their star players happy.

MAN ON THE SPOT

Josh Okogie is the player in the spotlight. His field goal shooting was awful last season. It was simply terrible. McLemore was brought in to help challenge Okogie for the small forward position. It's a make or break season for the third year shooting guard out of Georgia Tech.

STARTING FIVE
D'Angelo Russell | 21.1 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 7.0 apg
Will have Instant impact on Wolves’ offense after arriving via blockbuster trade.

Malik Beasley | 7.9 ppg, 1.2 rpg, 1.2 apg
He's going to have score more than single figure digits if the Timberwolves want wins

Josh Okogie | 7.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.2 apg
Shooting 39% overall (28% 3FGAs) won’t cut it.

Juan Hernangomez | 3.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 0.6 apg
Another player who arrived from Denver. Can he remain in the starting line-up?

Karl-Anthony Towns | 24.4 ppg, 12.4 rpg, 3.4 apg
Missing all-NBA cost him $40 million. He should seek it anyway.

KEY RESERVES
James Johnson | 5.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.2 apg
Adds valuable depth as the sixth man. Could upgrade if age starts to show through.

Ben McLemore | 8.8 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.1 apg
Serial three point shooter, who converted .415% of his shots from beyond the arc last season.

THE BOTTOM LINE
The Timberwolves were the good vibes crew of the summer, with all sorts of good will generated by Rosas’ hiring and the staff he corralled, by Saunders’ confirmation in his dad’s old job and by repeated reminders that Butler and Thibodeau are gone. All for a new regime that hasn’t proven yet it can win one game or come close to breaking even over 82. The new group is winning press conferences that the previous administration lost. There’s been a culture shift in Minnesota. There is new leadership in the front office and a good mix of veteran and young talent that should usher in a new era of Wolves basketball. That being said, it’s hard to see the Timberwolves making the playoffs this year and likely won't surpass 20 wins out of a possible 58 on their schedule.

Russell and KAT should be a nice 1-2 but i think you'll need a third star to compete for real.

Timberwolves trade for Houston's Ben McLemore
nba.com/timberwolves/morningcoffee | October 1st, 2019

In case you missed it, while you were deep in your sleep last night, the Minnesota Timberwolves successfully traded for shooting guard/forward Ben McLemore. The Timberwolves sent Jake Layman and Jacob Evans II in exchange for McLemore and Jeff Green, which gives them an abundance of forwards on the roster.

McLemore, 26, was the 7th overall selection in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings and has spent time on the Memphis Grizzlies roster before returning to the Kings. A three point specialist, McLemore has a career average of shooting 35% from beyond the arc, which gives the Timberwolves another offensive weapon.
