Despite 5-INT performance vs. Coastal Carolina, draft buzz remains aplenty for Auburn's QB Storm McWilliams Jr.
Tony McCombs -- Pro Football Network
Coming into the season, few college football fans outside of the immediate Auburn, Alabama region knew the name Storm McWilliams Jr. He is now the fifth quarterback on D.J. Jeremiah's Draft Big Board at quarterback.
A couple of days after McWilliams Jr. threw five interceptions in the upset lost to Coastal Carolina, the NFL Network draft pundit had McWilliams fifth at quarterback behind Clemson D.J. Uiagalelei, Alabama's Bryce Young, Georgia's JT Daniels and UCF's Dillon Gabriel.
This is what Jeremiah said about McWilliams, nominating him as “The guy you better get to know now.”
There might not be a better natural thrower of the football than McWilliams in this class, Uiagalelei is a close second. He's a third-year player that hasn't started ten games and his performance against Coastal Carolina proved that rawness. A talented baseball prospect that's relatively new to the game of football, McWilliams has a lot of ways to go before he can be expected to play in the NFL. He can afford to probably add another fifteen to twenty pounds to his frame and he has a tendency to rely on his raw arm talent too often and can be flat footed in the pocket. Ideally, McWilliams is at Auburn in 2023 in what currently projects to be a weaker class at the position. If he can finish off this season strong against Georgia, LSU and Alabama, he has a good shot at being the undisputed king of the 2024 QB class.
Prior to the Coastal Carolina loss, McWilliams was coming back-to-back performances where he set a school record in passing yards and the next week did not throw a single incompletion. In his first season as a starter, McWilliams is averaging 304.4 yards per game with a 72.3 completion percentage and a 2:1 QB:INT ratio.
