Filipa Patão to explore adding a center back amid the transfer window.

Racing Louisville FC is actively seeking to bolster its defense by acquiring a central defender during the current transfer window. Head coach Filipa Patao has identified this position as a priority to enhance the team's backline stability.

One of the club's primary targets is Angel City FC's standout defender, Sarah Gorden. Gorden has been a pivotal figure for Angel City, notably playing every minute of the 2023 season and contributing significantly to the team's first NWSL playoff appearance. Her consistent performances earned her a new contract with Angel City in December 2023, extending her stay through 2026 with a mutual option for 2027. Given her contractual commitment and integral role at Angel City, securing Gorden on loan may present challenges for Racing Louisville.

In light of potential obstacles in acquiring Gorden, Racing Louisville's scouting team has identified alternative options, including French defender Océane Deslandes and German defender Sophia Kleinherne. Both players have reportedly expressed openness to discussions about joining the American club. Deslandes, known for her tactical awareness and aerial prowess, could offer valuable depth to Racing's defense. Kleinherne, with her experience in European competitions and solid defensive capabilities, also presents a compelling option to strengthen the team's backline.

As the transfer window progresses, Racing Louisville remains committed to reinforcing its defensive unit. The club hopes to finalize negotiations during the transfer window & integrate the new central defender into the squad in hopes of securing a playoff spot later this year.
