Racing Louisville FC Shuts Down Downtown with Championship Parade: Asllani Bows Out in Style, Palis Shines, van Eijk Dominates

The streets of downtown Louisville were painted in lavender and roaring with pride as Racing Louisville FC celebrated their 2026 NWSL Championship in front of thousands of fans during a stunning parade that shut down major intersections and filled the city with joy.
With Main Street, Muhammad Ali Boulevard, and 6th Street closed to traffic, the championship caravan rolled past city landmarks, with the final stop and rally held outside the iconic Muhammad Ali Center. Fans draped in purple lined the sidewalks, waving flags and chanting as players soaked in the love.
“You gave us your voices all season,” said Racing’s head coach Filipa Patão, addressing the crowd from the rally stage. “Today, we bring you a championship.”
It was a moment straight from a script. Kosovare Asllani, the Swedish legend playing in the final match of her professional career, scored one of the three goals that secured Racing’s 3–0 domination over Gotham FC in the NWSL Championship.
Fans held up signs reading "Queen Kosse Forever" and "Thank You, Asllani", as she waved from the lead float, visibly emotional.
“She ended her career the only way she knew how,” said teammate Alisha Lehmann. “Scoring in the final?! She's legendary & I am so honored to have played with her in her retirement season!”

Regina van Eijk may not say much, but her performance in the final spoke volumes.
The Dutch goalkeeper anchored the defense with ice-cold composure, denying every Gotham attempt and preserving a clean sheet in the biggest match of the season.
“She was a beast,” said defender Sophia Kleinherne. “They threw everything at us, and she never flinched.”
Van Eijk smiled from her float as fans showered her with chants of "REGINA! REGINA!", her name echoing down 4th Street Live.
Ella Palis, wearing her iconic #19 jersey, lit up the final with two brilliant goals that left no doubt who owned the moment.

The French midfielder was the engine in the middle and the dagger in attack. Her second goal—a curling strike from just outside the box—brought the Louisville fans to their feet and effectively shut the door on Gotham’s hopes.
“She’s been world-class all season,” said Filipa Patão. “She’s not just part of the future—she’s defining it.”
As the parade snaked down Whiskey Row and made its way toward Liberty Street, lavender smoke flares filled the air, confetti rained down, and fans danced to live music echoing from rooftops and restaurant patios.
The KFC Yum! Center lit up its screens with highlights from the final, while nearby bars handed out themed drinks like the “Palis Punch” and the “Asllani Sendoff.”
As night fell and the Ali Center lit up in lavender lights, Asllani stepped to the mic one last time.
“I came to Louisville to win something special,” she said. “I’m leaving with a title—and a family.”
Racing will look to rebound the loss of Asllani for the 2027 season, but for now, it's a celebration in Louisville!

Editor's Final Thoughts:

Two goals in the final. Ella Palis deserves it all.

Mf Sophia Kleinherne is a BEAST & worth every dollar! She will take a ball to the face to prevent a goal. Best defender ever.

van Eijk! I didn't expect this because she only had 6 clean sheets at the end of the regular season but 2 in the postseason. Bump my girl up to an 80 overall next season

Let me repost something in honor of Ella Palis:

I love this team.
