Is a Three-Peat in Store? Filipa Patão’s Racing Louisville Era Reaches New Heights
Louisville, KY — When Filipa Patão took over as Racing Louisville’s head coach in 2024, few could’ve predicted the meteoric rise that would follow. Four seasons later, Patão has turned a once-promising project into a full-blown dynasty in the making.
After back-to-back playoff appearances in 2024 and 2025, Patão delivered Racing’s first NWSL title in 2026—and followed it up with a second in 2027. Now, with the 2028 season on the horizon, the reigning champs are staring down a chance at a historic three-peat.
Leading the charge is captain Ella Palis, who has been nothing short of unstoppable. The French midfielder has scored 56 goals over the last three seasons, including a league-leading 20 in both 2025 and 2026, and a third time with 16 more in 2027.
Behind her, goalkeeper Regina van Eijk remains one of the NWSL’s elite shot-stoppers. After taking over as starter in 2024 following the sale of Katie Lund, van Eijk has anchored the back line, earning Keeper of the Year honors in 2026 and finishing top five in clean sheets again in 2027.
Savannah DeMelo continues to be the league’s premier playmaker, leading the NWSL in assists in both 2026 (22) and 2027 (17). Defensively, Sophia Kleinherne has emerged as a rock in central defense, while Erëleta Memeti, Alisha Lehmann, and Scarlett Camberos provide speed, skill, and finishing for Racing.
As the January transfer window opens, the question looms large: Can Patão and Racing make it three in a row? If history is any indication, betting against them might be a losing game.

Racing Louisville Locks In Key Starters as 2nd Straight Title Defense Begins
Louisville, KY — Racing Louisville FC wasted no time getting down to business in the new year, announcing contract extensions for two of their championship-winning starters: center back Sophia Kleinherne and right midfielder Scarlett Camberos.
Kleinherne, a defensive anchor since signing ahead of the 2025 season, has agreed to a four-year deal worth $8,000 per week. Camberos, who joined Racing in 2024 as part of Filipa Patão’s first squad, also inked a four-year extension worth $6,000 per week.
Both players were instrumental in Racing’s back-to-back NWSL titles in 2026 and 2027, and now look ahead to 2028 with one goal in mind — a historic three-peat.
With the heart of her lineup staying intact, Patão’s push for a dynasty continues full steam ahead

Racing Louisville Makes Lone Move of 2028 Transfer Window, Signing French Striker Adèle Connesson
Louisville, KY — Racing Louisville FC has wasted little time making waves in the January transfer window. On Wednesday, the two-time defending NWSL champions announced their first addition of 2028: 23-year-old French striker Adèle Connesson, who joins the club on a four-year deal as a free agent.
The deal, reportedly worth $3,500 in weekly wages, continues head coach Filipa Patão’s impressive run of shrewd transfer business. Known for her ability to identify top-tier free agents and avoid costly transfer fees, Patão expressed excitement over the signing.
“Adèle fits our identity perfectly,” Patão said. “She’s technically sharp, fearless in front of goal, and has the kind of energy that lifts the players around her. She’s someone we’ve had an eye on for a while.”
Connesson, a dynamic forward with slick dribbling and a keen eye for goal, is expected to provide attacking depth behind starting striker Alisha Lehmann, who scored 11 goals for Louisville during the regular season. With Racing eyeing a potential three-peat, the addition of fresh legs up front could be crucial in managing minutes across multiple competitions.
The French connection in Louisville continues to grow. Connesson joins a strong core of fellow countrywomen at the club: goalkeeper Alice Pinguet, left back Maïté Boucly, midfielder Maeline Mendy, and Racing’s heartbeat — captain and two-time Golden Boot winner Ella Palis.
With the 2028 season still weeks away, Racing’s front office is already sending a clear message — they’re not just content with back-to-back titles. The hunt for more silverware is on.

Unfortunately I only have 3 different preseasons to choose to compete in. This is the first time we've ever competed in the shield & we have a matchup against Liverpool which to me, is a major deal, even though it's a friendly. Like... cmon we're playing liverpool!!!

first club in England we’ve ever faced.
