Three-Peat Parade: Racing Louisville Celebrates NWSL History with Championship Procession Through The City

Image

Louisville, KY – Purple smoke, confetti cannons, and a roaring crowd flooded downtown Louisville Wednesday as Racing Louisville FC celebrated its third straight NWSL Championship with a high-energy parade and rally. The city honored the club’s dominant playoff run and historic 4–0 win over the Washington Spirit—securing Racing’s place as the first team in NWSL history to win three consecutive titles.

“It’s the honor of my life to wear this armband,” team captain Ella Palis told the crowd from outside Lynn Family Stadium. “But it’s the talent, the unity, and the fight in every single player here that brought us to this moment.”

The championship match saw an early explosion of goals. Taylor Flint opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a towering header off a corner—her second clutch goal of the postseason. Savannah DeMelo followed with a first-half brace in the 13th and 24th minutes, showcasing her elite finishing ability and control in midfield. Palis sealed the title with a calm strike in the 82nd minute to cap off a performance for the ages.

But the path to the final wasn’t without adversity.

In the quarterfinals, Swiss international Alisha Lehmann delivered the decisive goal in a gritty 1–0 victory over the North Carolina Courage. That win secured a second consecutive playoff clean sheet for a back line anchored by Flint and Sophia Kleinherne at center back, Maïté Boucly at left back, and Asmita Ale on the right.

The semifinals tested Racing's championship mettle in dramatic fashion. Locked in a 2–2 battle with the Kansas City Current, the match seemed destined for a heartbreaking end—until Flint struck again in the 119th minute to send it to penalties. Goalkeeper Regina van Eijk became the hero in the shootout, saving two attempts and commanding the net as Racing triumphed 3–1 on spot kicks to book their place in the final.

“She was ice,” head coach Filipa Patão said of van Eijk. “Every big moment we needed, she stepped up.”

For Patão, now in her fifth year as manager, the parade was not just a celebration—it was a coronation. “Three championships in three years? That doesn’t happen by accident,” she said. “It happens because of belief, accountability, and a locker room full of killers.”

The day was also tinged with emotion as fans bid farewell to veteran left back Maïté Boucly, who played her final match with the club before transferring to TSG Hoffenheim. She began the parade in tears, greeted by a standing ovation from Lynn Family Stadium and a chant of “Merci Maïté!” echoing through the streets during the parade. Boucly has been a starter for three seasons, winning a NWSL championship every season.

As fireworks cracked across the Louisville skyline and fans chanted, one truth stood above the rest: This isn't just a team—it's a dynasty.

When I first started this chise it was for fun. I only wanted to do a few seasons & hang it up after winning the trophy. I had no idea what I was doing when I started but the stellar play from Kosovare Asllani made it fun. Then the explosiveness of Ella Palis made it even more fun. We've came a long way since then & I must admit this is one of the most fun franchises I've ever had.

That being said... We're moving on to season 6 :letsgo:

When I did my research, it's definitely the first three-peat in the NWSL. Not sure about other leagues. But we're breaking records over here :blessed:
