Thanks for the comment. Yeah it was against a team that will likely be bottom feeding in the league so it was nice to have a comfortable victory.

Tottenham Hotspur (2-0-0) vs. Crystal Palace (0-0-2)
Premier League, Matchday 2
Selhurst Park
London, United Kingdom
August 29th, 2023

Tottenham secured another three points to continue the perfect start to the season despite a less than stellar performance at Selhurst Park.

The match started rough for Tottenham as Jordan Ayew just missed netting the opening goal in the 3rd minute but was denied by a great Mike Maignan save. After play was recycled on the ensuing corner Wilfried Zaha placed a cross into the box and Ayew was able to put the ball in the back of the net this time as he headed the opener to give Crystal Palace the 1-0 lead.

Shortly afterwards the rain began to fall at Selhurst Park and would continue for the rest of the match. Both teams struggled with the conditions as they combined for a total of only 8 shots. However, Giovanni Lo Celso would make the most of one of those as he received the ball from Steven Bergwijn at the top of the box and curled in a shot near the top of the left post to tie up the match in the 20th minute.

In the 43rd minute the decisive goal would be scored as Renan Lodi fired a cross to Serge Gnabry but the cross would fall short towards two Crystal Palace defenders. In the confusion and wet conditions, Eric Garcia misplayed the ball and sent it into the net to give Tottenham the 2-1 advantage and eventually the three points.

"It was not an ideal performance but when you can walk away from a derby match with three points in these conditions I don't have much room to complain," noted manager James Taylor in his post match interview.

Tottenham like other teams will now head into the international break before facing AS Monaco to open their Champions League campaign for the first time in three years.
