Premier League survival on the line for Southampton
Image
Rob Stock -- Southern Daily Echo
It all comes down to the final day of the 2022-2023 Premier League season, and Southampton fans are biting their nails with nerves as they prepare to face Wolves at home. The Saints, who are currently sitting in 16th place with a -32 goal difference and 32 points, are hoping to avoid relegation and secure their place in the top flight of English football for another season.

Their opponents, Wolves, who are currently in 9th place on 56 points, have nothing left to play for this season, having already missed out on qualifying for European competitions based on final standings. However, that does not mean they will be taking it easy against the Saints, who they will be looking to defeat in order to end their season on a high note.

Meanwhile, Southampton's fellow relegation rivals Nottingham Forest, who are just one point behind them, will be travelling to Goodison Park to face Everton. The Toffees are currently in 10th place with 54 points, and while they cannot qualify for Europe based on the final standings, they will be looking to end their season with a win and deny Forest any chance of survival.

And finally, Fulham, who are currently sitting in 18th place with a -22 goal difference and 29 points, will be facing a tough test away at Tottenham. Spurs, who need just a single point to secure Champions League football for next season, will be looking to seal their place among Europe's elite, and will not make things easy for the struggling Cottagers.

For Southampton, it's a must-win game against Wolves if they hope to avoid relegation. With their fate firmly in their own hands, the Saints will be looking to their star players to step up and deliver when it matters most. The likes of James Ward-Prowse and Che Adams will be vital if they are to secure the three points they need to guarantee survival.

It's set to be a tense and nervy final day of the season for the Saints and their fans, but they will be hoping that their team can deliver and secure their place in the Premier League for another season. The stakes could not be higher, and the tension could not be greater, as Southampton prepare to face Wolves in a do-or-die encounter.
