Southampton Round Up - January 2023
Rob Stock -- Southern Daily Echo
Injuries Continue To Plauge Southampton
Southampton football club has been hit hard by injuries this season, with several key players spending significant time on the sidelines. These injuries have made it difficult for manager Mauricio Pochettino to manage his squad effectively and have put pressure on the team's depth.

In their most recent match, Southampton suffered another setback when new signing Lucas Moura was forced off after just one minute with a broken toe. This injury is expected to keep him out for three months, adding to the team's injury woes. Defender Romain Perraud is also out for three months with an MCL injury, further depleting the team's resources.

Despite these setbacks, Southampton has shown resilience and determination in their performances on the pitch. The team has been competitive in their matches, and their players have stepped up to fill in for injured teammates.

However, the injury list remains lengthy. Adam Armstrong is expected to be fit in two weeks after suffering a broken toe, while Stuart Armstrong has about a month left in his recovery from the same injury. James Ward-Prowse is expected to be out for two months with a broken toe, while Moussa Djenepo should return to the squad in about a month from his own broken toe. Defender Kyle Walker-Peters is still recovering from a dislocated shoulder and has about a month left to go, while Mohammed Salisu is about two weeks away from being fit after his own dislocated shoulder.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has acknowledged the challenges posed by the injury list but remains optimistic about the team's prospects. "It's never easy to deal with injuries, but we have a strong squad and we will continue to work hard and fight for every point," he said in a recent press conference.

As the season progresses, Southampton will be hoping for a bit of luck on the injury front and will be looking to continue their competitive performances on the pitch. The team's fans will no doubt be hoping to see their injured stars return to full fitness as soon as possible, in order to give Southampton the best chance of success.

Nottingham Forest Win Huge for Southampton
Southampton faced off against Nottingham Forest in a crucial match for both teams as they battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League. For Southampton, this game represented a chance to climb the table and secure some much-needed points in their fight to stay up.

Southampton got off to a strong start, scoring two first-half goals and putting Nottingham Forest on the back foot. The visitors were also dealt a blow when they went down to ten men just before the break. However, the second half was a different story, with Nottingham Forest dominating possession and scoring a goal to make things interesting.

While the manner of Southampton's victory may not have been as convincing as fans would have hoped, it was still a vital result. The win propelled them up the table from 18th place to 14th, putting some breathing room between them and the relegation zone. However, they are still just three points clear of danger, with plenty of football left to play.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino was pleased with his team's performance but acknowledged that there is still work to be done. "It was a hard-fought victory, and I'm proud of the way the team battled. But we know that we still have a long way to go and that we need to keep working hard in every game," he said in a post-match interview.

Southampton's fans will be hoping that this win represents a turning point for their team and that they can build on this momentum in the coming weeks. With several key matches coming up, every point will be crucial as they fight to stay in the Premier League.

Southampton Add One More Transfer Target
Southampton made a last-minute move in the January transfer window by signing Marvelous Nakamba from Aston Villa for a reported fee of £4.3 million. The Zimbabwe international is expected to provide some much-needed depth to the Southampton midfield.

Nakamba, who only made 5 apperances in all competitions before joining Southampton, has an average rating of 6.06 so far. While he is still settling into his new team, fans will be hoping that he can make an impact in the coming weeks as the team continues to battle for survival in the Premier League.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino was pleased with the signing and believes that Nakamba will be a valuable addition to the squad. "We're happy to have Marvelous on board. He's a talented player with a lot of potential, and we're looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the team," Pochettino said in a recent press conference.
