We get out our chequebook and sign Can from Liverpool. I had made it my goal prior to this season to try to get younger but all that effort is out the window if we get relegated. Hopefully, he can help. A lot of players didn't want to sign a contract with us. I wonder why?

I probably overpaid but he is young and hopefully will develop. We will give him every opportunity at playing time. The problem that I am running into is that anybody who is any good doesn't want to come to West Brom. Even if I get a club to agree on a transfer fee, the salary we offer never seems to be good enough. Greedy footballers.

In our final move of the transfer window, we spend $3.8 million to shore up the defense. He's not likely to start because we have better options but if we need to protect a lead -- if we ever get a lead again -- he'll be a substitute to lock it down.
