Manchester United Make Major Splash for Christian Eriksen

Image
With a gaping hole in the CAM position after a change to the 4-2-3-1 from Jermaine Washington, United badly needed a pure central attacking midfielder. Eriksen is that guy, he's one of the best passers in world football and will be able to orchestrate things from the center of the pitch for the Red Devils. They paid just £54.2 million to Spurs to complete the deal with Eriksen in the last year of his contract, and the Dane will become the 3rd highest paid player at the club, earning £185K per week.

Real Madrid Buy Romelu Lukaku for Club Record £120.3M Fee

Image
In a surprising move, Manchester United have agreed to sell their first choice striker, and the league's top scorer last year, Romelu Lukaku, to Real Madrid for a whopping £120.3 million. Lukaku had enjoyed his two years at Manchester United, but he was seeking a "step up" and from United there are very few of those. Real Madrid came knocking and the Belgian striker has decided to answer that call and look to become the top striker in LaLiga.

This move leaves Manchester United with just Josh King and Mason Greenwood at striker. With the latter not being quite ready, and King not really having the ability to be a full-time starter, it is almost certain that they will target a replacement for Romelu in the #9 position. The question is, who?

The Prodigal Son Finally Returns Home - Welcome, Cristiano Ronaldo

Image
It appears Manchester United had a plan for Lukaku's exit... and a good one. They have agreed to buy Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus for £109.1 million. 10 years after his departure, the Portuguese superstar rejoins the club where he first made his mark on the world stage. At 34 years old, Ronaldo doesn't have much time left, so he only signed a 2-year contract with the Red Devils, but those should be an excellent two years. Things didn't go quite as expected at Juventus. He clashed with the coaching staff and the team failed to win the Scudetto, finishing 4th in Serie A and also being knocked out of the Champions League in the Round of 16. Cristiano believes he has a better chance to pick up another Champions League trophy and eclipse Lionel Messi, by rejoining United.

In somewhat of a surprising move, Ronaldo has chosen to allow Marcus Rashford to keep his old number seven shirt. He will wear number 9 at United, signifying his transition to a new role as the main man up front in contrast to his role as a winger the last time he was at Old Trafford.

United Pick Up Norwegian Midfielder, Iver Fossum

Image
After the splashy Ronaldo signing, United have made more of a low-key, shrewd one here with the signing of Iver Fossum from Hanover 96 for £8,600,000. The Norwegian midfielder is just 23-years-old and extremely versatile, capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, box-to-box or in a more deep-lying role. He has a tremendous work rate and should be a useful utility player for United off the bench.

United Break Transfer Record for Defender with Kalidou Koulibaly Signing

Image
Manchester United have edged the transfer record for a defender by signing Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly for £78,100,000. United already had Romagnoli in defense, but last year struggled at times to find a world class partner for him within their ranks. Lindelof wasn't good enough, Bailly too injury prone and Tuanzebe not quite ready. Enter Koulibaly, the 28 year old is considered by many to be the best central defender in world football along with Virgil Van Dijk, and should not only be a force to reckon with in United's backline, but also act as a leader and role model for the younger Tuanzebe to grow behind him.

Eric Bailly Sold to Rival Liverpool

Image
Eric Bailly was extremely displeased with the purchase of Kalidou Koulibaly, because it ensured he would once again not be a starter for Manchester United. He refused to sign a new contract, and with only 11 months left on his deal, United had to either sell him this window or risk losing him on a free in the next one. Liverpool and Arsenal were the only clubs that came in with bids, and with Liverpool offering a better deal at just under £20 million, United were forced to accept and let the player go to their hated rivals.
