Moving on up the table. Some good January signings might get you into Europe.

We shall see. I got both of my backup CB's leaving in January so I'll need to fill that gap and that might kill my budget.

December 7, 2019

Iker Muniain capped off a first half brace in the 41st minute that eventually led to the 4-0 defeat that Real Betis suffered at home against Athletic Club Bilbao.

Muniain got Athletic Club off to a quick start when he blasted in a ball Inaki Williams following a Real Betis giveaway in the second minute.

Things only got worse for Real Betis in the 24th miunute when an Oscar De Marcos' shot was parried across the goal by Real Betis keeper Joel Robles and bounced to Benat who had an easy open goal in front of him to put Real Betis down 2-0.

In the 41st minute Muniain would capture his brace after being fed a cross by Inigo Cordoba that he gracefully slid past the keeper to give Athletic the 3-0 advantage heading into halfitme.

In the 52nd minute an Asier Villalibre shot would be saved by Robles but Dani Garica pounced upon the rebound and extended the lead to 4-0.

Real Betis struggled and was only able to put 4 shots on goal. Two of those came from forward Loren, who seemed to have the best match for Real Betis.

Real Betis will have a week off before taking on Atletico Madrid (12-1-2) at home on December 21st.

Five different players from Atletico Madrid found the back of the net as Real Betis had another poor performance to mark a second big defeat is as many games with a big 5-0 loss. In fact, Real Betis has a lost the past two games by a total of 9-0.

The game started off with both teams feeling each other out, Atletico Madrid was pressing fairly high and causing issue for Real Betis but neither team seemed able to make anything of the mistakes by the other. That turned when Thomas Partey blasted in a shot past Joel Robles on the near post in the 35th minute. After that the goals seemed to pour in for the rest of the first half as Hector Herrera added a goal shortly afterwards in the 37th minute and Thomas Lemar added his own in the 45th minute right before halftime.

The second half was much of what the first half was, with Atletico Madrid pressing Real Betis into mistakes and defensive lapses letting Atletico Madrid get into space with easy shots on goal. Angel Correa added a goal in the 71st minute and Sergio Camello added the final dagger in the 89th minute to get the final of 5-0.

The only bright spot for Real Betis was an excellent free kick by Nabil Fekir in the 75th minute. The kick was placed perfectly into the top left corner. However, Jan Oblak made an incredible save by stretching out and just tipping the ball over the bar to keep his clean sheet.

Real Betis currently sit in 10th place and will travel to face RCD Espanyol (6-3-7) on Christmas Day. A win by RCD Espanyol will put them above Real Betis in the table.

After two very disappointing results, Real Betis fans were treated to a Christmas present of a 2-0 win over RCD Espanyol on Chirstmas Day.

Real Betis showed up looking to put the past performances behind them but things suddenly got dicey in the 11th minute when a mistimed tackle earned William Carvalho his 1st yellow card of the season. This limited the Real Betis defense as Carvalho is the main ball winner in the midfield.

Real Betis was the first team to get on the scoresheet when Nabil Fekir curled a shot around the keeper from near the penalty spot in the 43rd minute. Fekir slotted the ball home after receiving a flicked ball from Loren near the center circle and running past two defenders before taking on the keeper. This is Fekir's 7th goal of the season and Loren's 6th assist.

The second half got out to a great start when William Carvalho, on a yellow card, received a pass from Nabil Fekir outside the box and smashed the ball past the keeper. The goal is Carvalho's 6th goal on the season, most of them coming in this fashion, and Fekir's 9th assist on the season.

Fekir will take home the man of the match award after earning a 9.1 match rating with 1 goal and 1 assist. William Cavalho earned a 8.9 rating with his 1 goal. Loren also had a 8.1 rating with his assist. Joel Robles earned a 7.3 rating with his 6th clean sheet of the season.

Keeper Diego Lopez was one of the few spotlights for RCD Espanyol. Despite giving up 2 goals, Lopez earned a 7.2 rating with 10 saves. Jonathan Calleri was the best attacker for Espanyol with a 6.8 rating with 1 shot on goal and 2 key passes.

Real Betis will have the rest of 2019 off before facing Deportivo Alaves (18-4-4) on January 4th after the transfer window opens on January 1st.
