August Week 4 | Edmonton, Canada

Image
Match #1: One on One Normal | Eddie Guerrero vs. Brian Kendrick
Eddie Guerrero started off the night with a non-title match against Brian Kendrick. Kendrick never got going. Eddie took off quickly and took to the air as well, unleashing an assault on Kendrick that he simply could not compete with. It wasn't long before Kendrick was getting slammed three times via the Three Amigos, on receiving end of a Frog Splash and looking up at the lights as he got pinned for the 3-Count. Post-match, Eddie grabbed the mic and addressed Rey Mysterio via the hard camera, "Eh yo Rey. You see this ese? What I've done to R-Truth and Brian Kendrick these last two weeks homes? That's going to be you on Sunday at Summerslam. You're not touching this cruiserweight title."
Winner: Eddie Guerrero by pinfall

Mid Card Promo: Papa Shango
The eerie Papa Shango was standing in the center of the ring after the break ready to deliver a promo. He surprisingly called Mark Henry down to the ring. Shango told Henry that he's been watching him for a long-time, and he knows he has talent, but he, like Shango, has been overlooked by the WWE brass and the WWE universe. Henry agreed, stating that though Shango is crazy, he's his kind of crazy, and they could form a formidable team. Shango told Henry that there's no reason for them to sit around and wait for them to be handed an opportunity anymore, and the two headed straight to Vince McMahon's office. They broke down the door and threatened to beat the hell out of the chairman if they didn't get a title shot at Summerslam against the tag champs, the Dudley Boyz. A fearful Vince obliged and set the stage for Shango and Mark Henry to take on The Dudley Boyz on Sunday.

Match #2: One on One Normal | John Cena vs. Big Show
John Cena wasn't interested in having a match with Show. After getting hurled around to start things off, Cena just rolled out of the ring. As Big Show moved to follow him, he didn't see Cena grabbing a chair from under the apron. As soon as Show got out of the ring, Cena smashed him across the face with it and the referee rang the bell to disqualify him. Cena didn't care and continue to hit Show with chair shot after chair shot, bloodying him and leaving him unconscious. As Cena climbed back up the ramp to head backstage, he said to an unresponsive Big Show, "Hey big man. You want this belt? Fine, you can come get it at Summerslam. But we're doing things by MY rules. I'm the Doctor of Thuganomics and I come from the street. So what better way to settle this than a good old-fashioned street fight?"
Winner: Big Show by disqualification

Match #3: One on One Normal | Chyna w/ X-Pac vs. Lita
After basically running through the entire women's division the last few weeks, Chyna finally earned a match against the Women's Champion, Lita. Chyna entered the ring first, but during Lita's entrance, Chyna came out and blocked the champ's path to the ring. After they stared each other down, Lita held up the title defiantly but then received a right hook straight to the jaw from Chyna. A brawl ensued, and although Lita was able to hit Chyna with a devastating spear, it wasn't good enough to keep her down, and she eventually recovered, overpowered Lita and threw her into the announce table, knocking her out. Chyna then stood above her ominously. Lita's days as the Women's Champion just might be numbered.
Winner: No Contest

Main Event: One on One Normal | The Rock vs. Goldberg
The Rock took control of this contest with Goldberg early, landing a Rock Bottom fairly early on in the bout that nearly put him away. However Goldberg kicked out at two and then launched some attacks of his own, by following up a pair of clotheslines with a spear. This time, it was The Rock's turn to kick out at the last second, so the match continued. Later on, Steve Austin, The Rock's opponent at Summerslam for the WWE title decided to get involved by attempting to berate and distract The Rock. After putting Goldberg down with a spinebuster, The Rock went outside of the ring to confront Austin as the referee started his 10-count. Goldberg, who eventually recovered, went outside to meet The Rock, but his attack from behind was dodged and he ended up spearing Austin instead. Then the Rock took advantage of Goldberg's confusion and Rock Bottomed him outside the ring before rolling back in himself to watch him get counted out.
Winner: The Rock by count out.

Match #1: One on One Normal | Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero (c) | Cruiserweight Championship
Like in their bout several weeks ago, Rey Mysterio again had Eddie well scouted, and despite the champ controlling things early on, Rey again got his knees up to counter the Frog Splash. Guerrero had been doing his research as well, however, as when Rey went for the 6-1-9, Latino Heat caught his legs and threw him back into the ring to counter it. The match continued, and again Eddie gained the upper hand, but Rey countered his Frog Splash for a second time leaving him incredibly frustrated. Guerrero poked Rey in the eye when the referee wasn't looking and went outside the ring to grab a mic and a kendo stick. He said, "Ok Rey, you wanna win so bad? Here you go." And he climbed back into the ring and smashed Mysterio right across the abdomen with the kendo stick, resulting in a "win" for Mysterio. Of course, titles cannot change hands on a disqualification so Guerrero remained champion and continued a vicious attack on Rey with the kendo stick before finally relenting.
Winner: Rey Mysterio by disqualification.

Match #2: One on One No Holds Barred | Big Show vs. John Cena (c) | United States Championship
This was an absolute mugging. The No Holds Barred stipulation that Cena demanded completely backfired on him in this match, as he seemed to have forgotten that it meant Big Show could use weapons as well. It was a short title defence for Cena as he once again struggled to handle Show's power, and this time Big Show brought weapons into the mix, bloodying Cena with a chair as he had done to him just three nights earlier. At that point all it took was a well placed Knock Out Punch from the 500 pound superstar to put Cena out cold and reclaim the United States championship he lost to Shelton Benjamin at Backlash back in May.
Winner: Big Show by pinfall.

Match #3: One on One Normal | Chyna w/ D-Generation X vs. Lita | Women's Championship
The entire D-Generation X army came out for this one to stand in Chyna's corner. As if she needed the advantage. The Amazonian like Chyna towered over Lita both in size and strength, but even after being dominated last week, Lita was not ready to back down. She used her speed to her benefit, targeting Chyna's legs and taking to the air for an aerial assault that actually managed to get Chyna flustered for the first time since she rejoined the company. But that strategy started to fall apart when Lita hit her finisher, the top rope moonsault, and Chyna kicked out at one. Lita couldn't believe it and her frustration made her lose focus which allowed Chyna to regain control. Chyna started beating the women's champion all over the ring and then outside of it, and it looked like it was all over. However, seemingly out of nowhere, Lita mustered the strength for a Twist of Fate outside the ring and crawled back into the ring. Chyna was not responding quickly and the referee did not allow her D-X buddies to help her so she was counted out. Lita retained, but when Chyna realized what had happened she went after the champion, and Lita went running for her life backstage.
Winner: Lita by count out.

Match #4: One on One Normal | Shelton Benjamin vs. Randy Orton (c) | Intercontinental Championship
This match never got started. For some reason as Shelton Benjamin was making his way to the ring, Orton came up from behind him and hit him with a backbreaker. The two just fought from there, seemingly forgetting they had a title match left to fight. They traded blows but it was Shelton who would be left standing tall at the end after slamming Orton's head into the apron and then hitting him with a T-Bone Suplex.
Winner: No Contest

Match #5: Two on Two Tag | Mark Henry & Papa Shango vs. The Dudley Boyz (c) | World Tag Team Championship
This was the first tag team match for the new team of Mark Henry and Papa Shango. And boy did they look dominant. Bubba Ray Dudley started out the match for the Dudley Boyz and Shango was just having a field day with him, confusing him with his eerie wrestling style but also overpowering him with his incredible strength. The new tag team isolated Bubba and kept D-Von as uninvolved as possible throughout. Eventually, when Papa Shango tagged in Mark Henry, he headbutted Bubba, disorienting him, then hit him with a World's Strongest Slam. As D-Von ran in to make the save, Shango caught him and powerslammed him to the mat as well while Henry pinned Bubba for the three count. This ended the Dudley Boyz two month reign as champions, but Shango and Henry weren't done there. They continued to assault the former champs after winning, and then disrespectfully used their own weapon against them, putting both brothers through tables. Bubba and D-Von were both carted off in stretchers while Shango and Henry addressed the WWE Universe, "No more will we be overlooked. No more will we be discounted. No more will we be second class citizens. Vince McMahon doesn't want black superstars in prominent positions in this company? Well, he has no say. Now we are your new tag team champions. We are a new nation, and we are here to dominate the WWE. We are... the Nation of Domination."
Winners: Papa Shango & Mark Henry by pinfall.

Main Event: One on One Normal | The Rock (c) vs. Steve Austin | WWE Championship
The two top superstars in the company faced off as they had so many times before for the WWE Championship. It was a classic, they started with traditional wrestling, exchanging mat moves and textbook wrestling locks, but then Austin's brawler instincts took over. He started hitting The Rock with punch after punch and took him down and continued to hit him over the head with more. Austin followed this up by going for the Stunner, but The Rock countered that into a spinebuster. He started to get ready to go for the People's Elbow, but on his way back from the ropes, Austin sprang up and hit him with a Stunner. The Rock was staggering but still standing so Austin threw up the double middle fingers to the champ and hit him with yet another Stunner and went for the pin and what looked like certain victory. All of a sudden all the lights in the arena went out and ten seconds later they came back on with Austin and the referee lying unconscious in the ring with Mark Henry and Papa Shango standing above him. The Rock sat in the corner in disbelief in then smiled at the carnage. He picked the referee up to his feet, then did the same to Austin and Rock Bottomed him before rolling him up for the three count. Afterwards, The Rock had a stare down with the Nation of Domination before they all exchanged smiles and raised their fists triumphantly in the air, suggesting The Rock too, had joined the Nation of Domination.
Winner: The Rock by pinfall.

Immediately following the last match of Summerslam, fans were getting ready to head for the exits after an exciting show, but all of a sudden Vince McMahon's music started blaring from the speakers and he entered the ring and grabbed a microphone. "Hey folks, stop right there! You're going to get a whole lot more than you paid for tonight as I have a major announcement to make!" The fans returned to their seats as everyone eagerly awaited the words of a very smug looking Vince McMahon.

"Several weeks ago, there were rumours of a brand split, where the roster would be divided evenly on two brands to allow all talents to be more prominently showcased. Now, that obviously didn't happen, and many of you may have heard the rumours that the idea was scrapped on a whim by yours truly. Well, those rumours were wrong, dammit, because we're going to have a WWE Draft and split these brands right here, right now! Let me introduce to you the new general managers of Smackdown!"

"Here Comes the Money" blasted from the speakers as Shane McMahon and Stephanie McMahon, looking every bit as smug as their father, made their way down to the ring. Vince once again spoke, "And of course, if we're going to have a draft, we'll need a second brand and a second leader. Well, many years ago I thought up the brilliant idea of RAW is WAR, a show that kickstarted the Attitude Era, and I'm going to bring it back and take over as general manager once again." Stephanie beckoned for the mic and Vince handed it to her, "Well if you're done with the build-up daddy, let's start this draft. I think it's only right that as CEO and Vice Chairman you get the #1 Overall Pick."

Vince smiled and grabbed the microphone again, "Well it wouldn't be RAW is WAR without the man who personified the Attitude Era now would it? With the number one overall pick in the WWE Draft, I select... STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN!" The crowd exploded into cheers as Austin, still beaten up from his earlier encounter with the new Nation of Domination walked down to the ring and shook hands with Mr. McMahon. Then Shane spoke up, "Great pick, but look we're going to do you one better and do you (pointing to Austin) a favour as well. With the second overall pick in the WWE Draft, we select the most electrifying man in ALL of sports entertainment, the Great One, the People's Champion and the WWE Champion, The Rock!" The Rock came down to the ring and the McMahons stood in between him and Austin to prevent a brawl from breaking out between the two. Vince's pick was up again.

"I'm feeling nostalgic, so why don't I go ahead and take a guy that was responsible for WWE's success in the early 90s. The Immortal Hollywood Hulk Hogan!" Once Hogan made his way to the ring, Shane McMahon revealed that his next pick would be the most promising prospect and rising star in the company, The Beast, Brock Lesnar. Vince followed that by selecting the rest of the nWo, and Stephanie and Shane also grabbed a tag team of their own in the Brothers of Destruction.

Vince made an announcement to the crowd, "I will be debuting a new championship tomorrow night, the World Heavyweight Championship. A selection of superstars that I choose will compete in a match for that title tomorrow to determine who our first major champion is on RAW. However, we're going to determine our first secondary champion right here right now, because I'm taking the Big Show and his United States Championship!" Realizing that they also needed a secondary title, Stephanie announced that Smackdown! would be drafting Randy Orton in order to keep rights to the Intercontinental Championship. She also stated that Smackdown! would be debuting a new women's only title, the Divas Championship, and that she would be the inaugural champion.

Vince followed this up by drafting the Women's Champion, Lita, while Stephanie and Shane picked the Nation of the Domination and subsequently the rights to the WWE Tag Team Championships. Vince announced that he would also be debuting new tag titles called the World Tag Team Championships, that would also be competed for the following night on RAW.

The rest of the draft (and summary of the live picks) went as follows:
1.) Steve Austin
2.) The Rock
3.) Hollywood Hulk Hogan
4.) Brock Lesnar
5.) Kevin Nash and Scott Hall (nWo)

36.) Big Boss Man
37.) Maria Kanellis
38.) Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder
39.) R-Truth and Brian Kendrick (Truth & Conseqeuences)
40.) Stephanie McMahon

WWE also announced that the pay-per-view schedule would be changing. Additionally, Booker T, who was drafted to RAW would still keep his guaranteed anytime-anywhere shot at the title that he won via King of the Ring, but it was being renamed to the RAW is WAR King of the Ring, while Smackdown! would have the Smackdown! King of the Ring briefcase. Superstars from each roster would only be able to appear on the show they were signed to, however there would be measures in place for stars to switch shows, although the WWE was fuzzy on the details for that. It was also announced that the cruiserweight and hardcore titles would now be effectively defunct with Eddie Guerrero and Batista announced respectively as the last-reigning champions.

September Week 1 | Fort Worth, TX

Match #1: One on One Normal | Maria Kanellis vs. Lita
Who better to open up the first episode of RAW is WAR's return than Lita, the Women's Champion? She kicked things off on Vince McMahon's show with a match against newcomer, Maria Kanellis. Maria looked like a fish out of water to start things as she was powerless to defend against the women's champion, but when she did the unthinkable and kicked out of Lita's patent diving moonsault at 2, things started to turn. She put together a bit of offense and even hit Lita with a heavy spike DDT, but eventually Lita showed why she's the Women's Champion, hitting a Twist of Fate on Maria and following that up with a second diving moonsault to pick up the victory. Lita celebrated in the ring post-match, but while she was atop the turnbuckle, Chyna came running in from the stage. She pulled Lita off the top rope, causing her to hit her head on the top turnbuckle, and then beat the living hell out of her before standing over her with the women's title held high in the air. Chyna clearly hasn't forgotten Lita's count out victory at Summerslam, and wants a second shot at that championship by any means possible.
Winner: Lita by pinfall.

Match #2: Two on Two Tag Team | Hardy Boyz vs. Truth & Consequences
Prior to the start of the next match, Vince McMahon came out to talk to the fans and explain that they need to crown a new World Tag Team Champions on RAW is WAR. A tournament would take place over the next few weeks with the Hardy Boyz taking on Truth & Consequences and nWo facing the Hart Foundation in the next match. The winners of these two matches would face each other next week for the titles. Jeff and Truth started out the bout, with Truth working Jeff in the corner to allows some double teaming with Kendrick. Jeff was being overpowered for a bit was eventually able to tag in Matt to bring in some energy to their team. Matt clearly had the advantage against Kendrick and eventually hit him with a Side Effect and Twist of Fate but R-Truth broke up the pin. Later, Truth was tagged in and started to shift the tide towards his team, but Matt was able to get a hot tag to his brother. With time to recover now, Jeff came in like a house on fire and overwhelmed R-Truth, hitting him with a Twist of Fate and Swanton Bomb while Matt prevented Kendrick from breaking up the pin to get the win. Hardyz advance to the championship match next week.
Winners: Hardy Boyz by pinfall,

Match #3: Two on Two Tag Team | nWo vs. Hart Foundation
Kevin Nash and Scott Hall took on Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart in tag team action without the nWo leader. Of course, as usual, the nWo had no interest in fairness. They assaulted the Harts from behind during their entrance, throwing them all around the ramp like ragdolls before the bell could even ring. The referee asked Bret if he wanted to continue the match, and of course the Hitman refused to back down from the challenge. However, he and Jim were picked apart by Hall and Nash who quickly dispatched them for the win and a spot in the World Tag Team Championship match next week.
Winners: nWo by pinfall.

Main Event: Fatal 4-Way | Hollywood Hogan vs. Goldberg vs. Sting vs. Steve Austin | World Heavyweight Championship
With a new RAW is WAR show, a new world champion was needed and that's exactly what Mr. McMahon planned to crown with this main event match. The top four superstars on the roster would face off to become the inaugural WWE World Heavyweight Champion and the banner carrier for the show. The two WCW stars, Goldberg and Sting focused on each other initially while arguably the two most influential figures in the Monday Night Wars, Austin and Hogan faced off. Eventually all four got in the mix with each other though as we saw the best RAW is WAR has to offer go at it. At one point, Goldberg looked to have the match won after hitting Hogan with a jackhammer while Austin and Sting lay knocked out outside the ring, but the nWo's leader kicked out miraculously at 2. A puzzled Goldberg hit Hogan with a second one, but by that time Austin had recovered to break it up. The ensuing melee between the two bald-headed stars ended up with a Stunner from Austin, but Sting got involved before the Texas Rattlesnake could get the pin. By this point all four guys had recovered and they tried to keep the action to the ring, exchanging their best blows with each other. Things came to a head when Goldberg hit Sting with a powerslam while Steve Austin superplexed Hogan off the top rope. By the time Austin recovered, Goldberg was laying crouched in wait for him and ran full-speed into him with the spear. A lifeless Austin couldn't do anything to kick out and with Hogan and Sting both incapacitated, Goldberg was able to pin the face of the Attitude Era 1, 2, 3 and become the inaugural WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Winner: Goldberg by pinfall.

King of the Ring Mini-Tournament Announced for Smackdown!

Image
The recent split of the brands and subsequently the King of the Ring briefcase, has left the Smackdown! rendition of the briefcase vacant with Booker T taking his version over to RAW. In order to rectify this situation, a second King of the Ring tournament will take place start on the next episode of Smackdown! and culminating at the Backlash Pay-Per-View. Eight Smackdown! superstars will participate in a single elimination knockout tournament. On week 1, the first two quarter-finals will be fought, followed by the rest of the quarter-finals on week two. The two semi-finals will take place on weeks three and four with the final two superstars facing off at the PPV for the briefcase.

The runner-up in the tournament that took place earlier this year, Brock Lesnar will enter as the #1 overall seed. WWE and Intercontinental championship holders The Rock and Randy Orton have been ruled ineligible, with Randy Savage and Ultimate Warrior also sitting out as the two legends will face off in a singles bout to determine the next #1 contender for The Rock's title. Tag team wrestlers will not participate in the tournament.
