Brand Split Returns as Smackdown! and RAW set for Clash at Survivor Series

Image
In a seismic shift that has set the WWE Universe buzzing with excitement, we're witnessing the return of the classic brand split. Starting with the Survivor Series pay-per-view event, the WWE landscape will once again be divided into two distinct rosters: RAW and SmackDown.

RAW: A Monday Night Spectacle

Monday nights will once more belong to RAW, the flagship show of WWE. It's here that we'll witness the crowning of the new World Heavyweight Champion, as the title stands vacant and awaits a worthy bearer. This prestigious honor will be decided in a high-stakes Fatal 4-Way match at Survivor Series, featuring the legendary Booker T, the cunning Randy Orton, the relentless Stone Cold Steve Austin, and the powerhouse Goldberg. The stakes have never been higher, and the wrestling world is on the edge of their seats. Additionally, the United States Championship, currently held by the incomparable Eddie Guerrero, will be up for grabs. Guerrero will put his title on the line against the up-and-coming Cody Rhodes in a clash that promises to be a showcase of skill and ambition. The winner will proudly represent RAW as the United States Champion. And let's not forget the tag team division, where DX stands tall as the World Tag Team Champions. RAW will continue to showcase the best of tag team wrestling, with DX ready to defend their gold against any challengers who dare step up to the plate.

SmackDown: Friday Night Excellence

Friday nights belong to SmackDown, and it's here that the prestigious WWE Championship currently resides on the shoulders of the "Beast Incarnate," Brock Lesnar. The dominance of Lesnar will be a cornerstone of SmackDown's legacy. Rob Van Dam, known for his high-flying and innovative style, holds the Intercontinental Championship, bringing a touch of extreme to SmackDown. His reign promises to be a showcase of athleticism and courage. The WWE Tag Team Titles stand vacant, but not for long. At Survivor Series, the explosive duo of Rey Mysterio and his protégé Santos Escobar, representing Legado del Fantasma, will face the formidable pairing of Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin, the Alpha Academy. The clash between these teams will determine the future of tag team excellence on SmackDown.

Show Supremacy: RAW vs. SmackDown

Before the brand split goes into full effect, we're in for a treat at Survivor Series. In a colossal 3-on-3 tag team showdown, RAW's Umaga and the Usos will lock horns with SmackDown's Zeus and the powerhouse duo of Bobby Lashley and MVP, collectively known as the Hurt Business. This clash is not just about pride; it's about establishing dominance and show supremacy. As we venture into this new era of brand division, the WWE Universe can expect thrills, rivalries, and moments that will define a generation. It's a return to the roots of what makes WWE so special: the distinct flavors and identities of RAW and SmackDown. Brace yourselves, for the brand split is back, and it's better than ever.

Match #1: Team RAW (Umaga & Usos) vs. Team Smackdown! (Zeus & Hurt Business) | 6-Man Tag :threehalfstar:
Team Smackdown! turned the tide in this matchup when Bobby Lashley was able to tag in and go one on one with arguably the weakest member of Team RAW, Jimmy Uso. Lashley dissected Jimmy, hitting him with The Dominator suplex then a spear. He cleared Jey Uso and Umaga off the apron before going for the pin but Jimmy kicked out. Lashley looked to apply the Hurt Lock to put Jimmy to sleep and was about to before Umaga got back into the fray and broke it up. This was inevitable though as Lashley continued to out-wrestle Jimmy Uso and prevent him from tagging his teammates. He hit Jimmy with another spear and this time MVP and Zeus took care of Jey and Umaga to ensure that Bobby got the pinfall and the victory for Team Smackdown!.

Match #2: Legado del Fantasma vs. Alpha Academy | Ladder Tag | WWE Tag Team Championships :twohalfstar:
Both of these teams are supremely athletic and used the ladder match stipulation to pull off some devastating aerial feats. The Alpha Academy just had a better strategy. They isolated Mysterio and Escobar and eventually got to a point where Shelton was able to scale the ladder freely while Chad Gable kept Santos Escobar at bay with Mysterio already incapacitated. Shelton retrieved both belts to secure the top tag titles on Smackdown! for these two former amateur wrestlers from Minnesota.

Match #3: O.C. vs. D-Generation X (c) | Tag Team | World Tag Team Championships :fourhalfstar:
These two teams put on a show with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows of the O.C. giving DX absolutely everything they could handle. Anderson was going toe to toe with HHH when they faced off and Gallows was able to hold his own with HBK as well. They looked to have the match almost won at a point where they were badly beating down the tag champs, but a rookie mistake cost them. Anderson tried to do a flying senton to the outside to take out HHH but missed. HHH then spinebustered him and tossed him back into the ring where HBK delivered a diving elbow drop. He started tuning up the band and Luke Gallows looked to break up the eventual Sweet Chin Music, but HHH got to him first with a Pedigree. HBK then delivered the massive superkick to Karl Anderson to put him out cold and retain the world tag team championships.

Match #4: Cody Rhodes vs. Eddie Guerrero (c) | One on One | United States Championship :fourstar:
Eddie Guerrero started off dominating this match, using his cunning to frustrate Cody Rhodes immensely early on in the contest. Eventually though, Cody started to build momentum and then jsut flat out started rolling downhill. He hit the vertebreaker on Eddie, then plastered him with a Cross Rhodes to seemingly win the match. He went for the pin, but Eddie used his free arm to pull the referee to the ground head first, taking them out of the contest and preventing them from going for the pin. From there Eddie was able to regain some more control of the matchup, he hit a suplex on Rhodes then went for the cover and by this time the ref had gotten back up. But Cody was playing possum and he rolled up Guerrero, grabbing his tights and beating Mr. Lie, Cheat and Steal at his own game and pinning him 1, 2, 3 to win the United States Championship and bring it with him to Monday Night RAW!

Match #5: Rob Van Dam (c) vs. Edge w/ Lita | One on One | Intercontinental Championship :fivestar:
In a thrilling showdown for the coveted Intercontinental Championship, Rob Van Dam stepped into the ring, his confidence radiating as he prepared to defend his title against the relentless Edge, accompanied by the fiery Lita at ringside. The match ignited with a flurry of high-impact maneuvers, as RVD showcased his unparalleled athleticism, leaving the WWE Universe in awe. Edge, driven by his desire to reclaim the Intercontinental Championship, countered with cunning tactics and powerful strikes, attempting to ground the high-flyer. As the battle intensified, RVD soared to the top rope, poised to deliver his signature Five Star Frog Splash, a move that had sealed countless victories. However, in a twist of fate, Lita seized the opportunity to intervene, shoving RVD off the turnbuckle when the referee's gaze momentarily shifted. The impact sent RVD crashing to the canvas, the wind knocked out of him. But the resilient RVD refused to be deterred. Summoning his inner strength, he fought through the interference, rallying the support of the WWE Universe. With a thunderous roar, RVD executed a series of breathtaking maneuvers, culminating in a perfectly executed Five Star Frog Splash that left Edge gasping for air. The referee's count hit three, and the arena erupted in jubilation as RVD retained his Intercontinental Championship. Despite Lita's underhanded tactics, the indomitable spirit of the Whole Damn Show prevailed, securing his place as one of WWE's most enduring and beloved champions.

Match #6: Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar (c) | Last Man Standing | WWE Championship :fivestar:
Kurt Angle held his own against Brock for about the first five minutes of this match, but from there Brock's sheer power and size just started to wear him down. He F-5'd Angle. Angle got up at 6. He F-5'd Angle again, Angle got up at 7. Brock started to get frustrated and started plastering Angle with weapons: kendo sticks, hammers and chairs to try to get him to stay down for the 10 count but he refused. Eventually Brock's frustration got the better of him and it was Angle's turn to get his finisher in. He hit Brock with two Angle Slams that sent the champ reeling. Brock just barely made it up for a 9 count, and Angle was waiting for him with a third Angle Slam. But Brock countered it, and delivered a devastating F-5 then tossed Angle out of the ring. He cleared the announce table and F-5'd Angle through the table leaving him in a crippled heap. The referee counted to 10 and medical officials rushed to help Kurt as the Beast Incarnate proved that he simply cannot be stopped on his current championship run. The rest of the Smackdown! locker room is 100% on notice.

Main Event: Booker T vs. Randy Orton vs. Stone Cold vs. Goldberg | Fatal 4-Way | World Heavyweight Championship :fourhalfstar:
The match was a whirlwind of chaos and intensity. Booker T, showing his veteran cunning, seized a golden opportunity when he executed his signature Axe Kick on Stone Cold Steve Austin. It seemed like victory was within Booker's grasp, but then, out of nowhere, the viper-like Randy Orton struck. With precision and ruthlessness, Orton delivered a punishing Backbreaker to Booker, breaking his pin attempt. As the contest teetered on the brink, Orton's sinister side emerged. He turned his attention to the downed Stone Cold, delivering a devastating Punt Kick that left the Texas Rattlesnake incapacitated. With Austin out of the equation, Orton swiftly covered him for the three-count, claiming the vacant World Heavyweight Championship. Goldberg, the only other man standing, could only watch in frustration as Orton secured the victory. It was a rollercoaster of a match, filled with twists and turns, but in the end, it was the cunning and opportunistic nature of Randy Orton that propelled him to the pinnacle of WWE for the first time. The World Heavyweight Championship had found a new bearer, and the era of Orton is now upon us.

Match #1: Jinder Mahal vs. Cody Rhodes | One on One :twohalfstar:
Cody Rhodes came out looking very impressive with his newly won United States Championship against the backdrop of his all-american attire and American Nightmare titantron and music. He faced off against Jinder Mahal. Mahal had been forced to vacate the Hardcore Championship he won three weeks ago thanks to the new brand split and wanted to make an impact by beating the new US Champ. While Mahal put up a pretty good fight in this one, he was eventually put down by a Vertebreaker followed by a Cross Rhodes from the US Champ. After the match Jinder offered a handshake to Cody, but when he went for it, Jinder kicked him below the belt before walking out of the ring.

Match #2: D-Generation X vs. Hollywood Hogan & The Boogeyman | Tag Team :threehalfstar:
DX faced off against a pretty mix-matched team of Hogan and Boogeyman in their first match since retaining the tag titles against The O.C. Hogan and Boogeyman really didn't have much chemistry and this allowed DX to isolate Boogeyman. He got hit with a Pedigree by Triple H who wasn't the legal man and then Shawn Michaels hit him with a Sweet Chin Music before going for the pin. Hogan tried to break it up but got spinebustered by HHH as DX picked up the win. Post-match, DX were celebrating with their belts but The Outsiders, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall appeared on the stage. Kevin Nash grabbed a mic and said, "Hey Hunter, Shawn... you might have been able to beat that knock off nWo, the O.C. at Survivor Series, but we're the real deal. We may go by the Outsiders now but we're just as, if not more dangerous than we ever were back in WCW. And we've got our eyes on those World Tag Team Championships of yours." HHH smiled and retorted, "Ok Nash, that's how you wanna play it? Well we only have two words for ya.... SUCK IT!" This pissed off Nash and he and Hall were about to run down to the ring to start a brawl but were stopped by WWE officials before things could get out of hand.

Main Event: Booker T vs. Shinsuke Nakamura | One on One | #1 Contender's Match  :fourhalfstar:
Randy Orton won the World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series, but the man who almost won it before Orton took away his moment, Booker T, was given a chance in the RAW main event to get a shot at the belt. To get that though he would need to beat former NJPW star, Shinsuke Nakamura who is no slouch. These two had an incredible bout as their similar hard striking and agile styles complemented each other well giving the crowd a thrilling match. In the end, Nakamura hit Booker with a Michinoku Driver then lined up the Kinshasa. Just as he was about to knock Booker's lights out with the kick, Booker ducked under it. When Nakamura turned around he was met with a Book End, which literally spelled the end of his #1 contendership hopes as Book picked up the win and the right to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship. Almost on cue, Randy Orton's music started to play as Booker looked to the stage waiting for his opponent. But Orton slithered into the ring from behind him, spun Booker around and hit him with an RKO before standing tall over his next challenger to close out Monday Night RAW.

Match #1: Chad Gable vs. Bret Hart | One on One :threestar:
Chad Gable was looking to prove his worth here after winning the WWE Tag Team titles with Shelton Benjamin at Survivor Series. He was going up against the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be in Bret Hart. The upstart Gable was able to match Bret technically and even take control of the match at times, nearly pinning him after an O'Connor Roll German Suplex. Gable was able to evade Hart's attempts at the Sharpshooter and late on in the match the action spilled to the outside. The two brawled as the referee continued to count, before Gable hit a trio of suplexes on Hart. He couldn't make it back into the ring before the 10 count though as the double count-out took place and a draw was awarded. An impressed Bret Hart offered a handshake to the rookie after the match but Gable slapped it away and yelled at Hart that he should've won before stomping off to the back.

Match #2: Rob Van Dam vs. Edge | One on One :threehalfstar:
RVD may have beaten Edge at Survivor Series, but the Rated R Superstar demanded one more chance to prove he was the better man in a non-title match on Smackdown!. RVD obliged. Edge dominated the match early but eventually RVD was able to get back into things and regain control. He hit the Rolling Thunder and followed that up with a Five Star Frog Splash but Edge kicked out. RVD kept the pressure on but Edge reversed one of his high kicks into an Edgecution, then hit the Spear. RVD also managed to kick out at two which sent Edge into a fit of rage. He climbed the top rope, trying to use RVD's own Five Star Frog Splash against him but RVD rolled out of the way leaving Edge clutching at his abdomen. He then showed him how it's done hitting Edge with the Five Star Frog Splash to get the victory. After the match, a newcomer to the WWE came out to the stage with mocking applause for the intercontinental champion. Drew McIntyre, the Scottish Psychopath has arrived on Smackdown! but what exactly does he want?

Main Event: John Cena vs. Undertaker | One on One | #1 Contender's Match :fourstar:
John Cena still had a rematch clause in effect. Earlier this year he cashed in his MITB against Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship but Lesnar promptly defeated him at the next PPV, however he'd never had a chance for rebuttal. Smackdown GM Paul Heyman was willing to give Cena a chance against his beast, Brock Lesnar, but first he would have to go through The Undertaker. Cena got absolutely annihilated in this match, and really never looked like having any chance of winning. But it was his cunning that would turn the tide for him. He deliberately took out the referee with his legs while Undertaker had him on his shoulders, then with the ref incapacitated took the opportunity to clean Taker's clock with his chain to knock him out and get the win. Brock wasn't impressed though, he rushed the ring after the match and took out both Cena and Taker standing tall over both men as Smackdown! came to a close.

Gable vs. Hart. What a time to be alive. Winning a feud over Bret Hart would be major for Gable. Tosses him into title contention imho.

Match #1: Jinder Mahal vs. Cody Rhodes | One on One :fourstar:
Cody was furious after the kick to the balls from Jinder last week and attacked him before the match even got started. Cody's rage got the best of him though and he made some errors early on in the matchup that allowed Jinder to take control of things. Mahal nearly forced Rhodes to submit with a Camel Clutch, then hit him with the Khallas, but Rhodes kicked out at two. That seemed to send Mahal into his own fit of rage afterwards, and he lost focus. He went for another Khallas after a long time, which gave Cody room to recover. Rhodes turned it into a Cross Rhodes and pinned Jinder to pick up a second straight victory over him.

Match #2: Outsiders vs. Usos | Tag Team | #1 Contender's Match :threehalfstar:
After their run-in with D-X last week, The Outsiders demanded a shot at the tag team titles from Eric Bischoff, and were informed they'd get one but they'd have to earn it in a #1 contender's match with The Usos. The veteran Outsiders got the better of the upstart Usos in this matchup by simply being more willing to bend the rules. Nash and Hall repeatedly entered the match as the non-legal man, preventing Jey from ever even tagging Jimmy into the matchup. While he fought valiantly, he was eventually worn down and pinned by Nash after Hall hit him with a Razor's Edge before booting Jimmy off the apron to prevent him from breaking up the pinfall. The Outsiders earned a shot at the World Tag Team titles as a result and the champs, D-X, came out to the stage after the match to trash talk them afterwards.

Main Event: Luke Gallows w/ Randy Orton vs. Booker T | One on One  :threestar:
Booker T came out for the main event and demanded to take the shot he earned at Randy Orton's title tonight, but Orton wasn't having it. He told Booker he'd face an opponent of his choosing tonight with Orton standing ringside. The World Heavyweight Championship match would have to wait until ECW One Night Stand. Booker was going to work on Luke Gallows in this match, clearly outmatching the tag team wrestler as a superior singles competitor. He hit the Book End on Gallows and was about to go for the cover, but Orton pulled the referee out of the ring. Booker went after Orton but the champ was too clever and slithered back into the ring before hitting Booker with an RKO for the second straight week. At this point the referee had come to and so had Gallows, who covered Booker for a massive upset win to close out RAW. Orton then RKO'd Gallows as well, standing tall over both men with his signature pose as the show faded to black.

Match #1: Chad Gable vs. Bret Hart | One on One :fourstar:
Chad Gable attacked Bret before he could even get in the ring, looking to get a jumpstart in their rematch after the draw last week. Chad was all over Bret early, hitting him with a trio of suplexes and then his patented Connor Roll German Suplex but that was only good for a two count. Gable then looked to set up a second one but Bret countered it this time. It was Bret's turn to take control of momentum afterwards, hitting Chad with a Piledriver before locking in the Sharpshooter in the center of the ring. With nowhere to go, Gable was forced to tap out embarrassingly as Bret Hart came out on top.

Match #2: Rob Van Dam vs. Drew McIntyre | One on One :threehalfstar:
After their confrontation last week, RVD was scheduled for a non-title match against Drew McIntyre. RVD was making his way to the ring when he was taken out at the knees from behind by Drew before he could even get into the ring. Drew then stomped on RVD's legs continually until the referee stopped him and forced both men into the ring to start the match. RVD was clearly hobbled, but trying to stay in the matchup. He kicked out of a Glasgow Kiss from Drew and later climbed the ropes for the Five Star Frog Splash. But with his hobbled leg it took him too long to get to the top rope which gave Drew time to recover and roll out of the way. When RVD got up he was immediately met with a Claymore to the face as Drew took him out and got a pinfall victory over the IC champ in his WWE debut match. But that wasn't enough for McIntyre. He went and got a chair and started assaulting RVD with it, targeting the already damaged leg looking to cripple the champion permanently.

Main Event:Brock Lesnar vs. AJ Styles :fivestar:
AJ Styles surprisingly took control of this match early, using his speed to his advantage to confuse Lesnar and continually keep him grounded with a series of moves. Styles started to lose momentum though when he went for a top rope move and Brock caught him out of the air before hitting him with a trio of powerbombs. Brock then locked Styles in the Brock Lock looking to force him to submit, but AJ was able to wriggle his way out of it and then knock Brock to the ground again with a stiff kick. Styles looked to set up the Phenomenal Forearm and was able to connect with it but that was only enough to keep Brock down for two. He went back outside to setup another Phenomenal Forearm but this time Brock moved out of the way before Styles could clean his clock. AJ then bounced off the ropes looking for a running attack but Brock countered with a rare Spear from him. AJ was writhing in pain in the center of the ring before Brock hoisted him up onto his shoulders and F-5'd him to pick up the victory. Following the match though, John Cena, the #1 contender, rushed the ring and smacked Brock from behind. He then picked up the WWE Championship, waited for Lesnar to get to his feet and blasted him in the head with the title before standing tall over him with the belt raised. Could this be the same scene at ECW One Night Stand?

Match #1: Cody Rhodes & Jinder Mahal vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Goldberg | Tag Team :threehalfstar:
Cody Rhodes and Jinder Mahal were forced to team up and make amends to try to cool the tension between the two superstars, but that did not work. They argued over who should start the match with Jinder eventually inserting himself. But when Jinder moved near the ropes Cody tagged himself in. That caused a second argument that ended with Jinder punching Cody in the face and walked out on him, turning this into a handicap match. Cody put up a good fight, even kicking out of a Kinshasa from Nakamura. But a spear from Goldberg put him away for good as he suffered a loss.

Match #2: Shawn Michaels vs. Jey Uso | One on One :threestar:
Kevin Nash attacked Shawn Michaels on his way to the ring, slamming him into the steel steps before rolling him into the ring damaged to face Jey Uso. Uso took full advantage, controlling most of the matchup early. He hit a Samoan Drop on HBK and an Uso Splash but it was only enough for a two count. Then Jey started to get frustrated and went for another high risk move off the top rope. This time he missed and when he got up he walked right into a Sweet Chin Music that used all the energy HBK had left. He slumped himself over Jey Uso to earn the victory, but could the damage caused today make a difference in his World Tag Title matchup against The Outsiders at ECW One Night Stand?

Orton turned to face the stage, expecting Booker to come down but he never came. This gave Owens time to recover and when Orton turned around he hit him with a devastating Pop-Up Powerbomb. 1, 2... 3! Owens picked up a massive upset over the World Heavyweight Championship courtesy of the interference of Booker T, who came out after the match applauding and laughing at Orton after finally getting the better of him this week.

Match #1: Chad Gable w/ Shelton Benjamin vs. Bret Hart w/ Jim Neidhart | One on One :threestar:
Gable was all over Bret at the start looking to avenge his embarrassing submission loss to The Hitman last week. He was dominating the early stages, but then Bret Hart was able to toss him out of the ring to recover some momentum. Shelton Benjamin started to get involved with Hart on the outside before Jim Neidhart stepped in the way and they started to trade punches. The referee got fed up with the commotion they were causing and tossed both tag partners from ringside. With the match down to Hart vs. Gable again, Bret's veteran experience kicked in and he took control. Gable managed to hit a German Suplex on Bret but then he went for a top rope diving move and missed. He hurt his leg in the attempt and Bret took full advantage, locking Gable in the Sharpshooter and forcing him to tap out for a second straight week.

Match #2: Rob Van Dam vs. Dolph Ziggler | One on One :fourhalfstar:
Rob Van Dam came into this match slightly hobbled and the "Show Off" Dolph Ziggler had no intentions of taking it easy on him in his debut. He went as hard as he could at the IC champion, hitting him with every move in his arsenal to take control of the matchup. He locked in a Sleeper Hold on two separate occasions outside the ring, but of course couldn't get the win on the outside. He later hit RVD with a pair of Superkicks in the ring but it was only enough for a 2.5 count. That's when the inexperience of Ziggler got the best of him. He went for a diving leg drop off the top rope and RVD slipped out of the way at the last second. Van Dam rallied to hit Ziggler with the Rolling Thunder and then a Five Star Frog Splash for a hard-earned win. After the match though, the lights went out, and when they came back on Drew McIntyre was running full speed towards RVD and hit him with a Claymore to knock him senseless in the center of the ring.

Main Event: Brock Lesnar vs. AJ Styles :fourstar:
After their amazing match last week, Brock and AJ had another non-title matchup in the main event of Smackdown!. And once again it did not disappoint. AJ gave Brock everything he could handle early on but got stopped at an absolute standstill when Brock hit an F-5 completely against the run of play. Shockingly though, AJ was able to kick out and show resilience to stay in the matchup. Things continued and it was clear AJ was badly hurt. He managed to summon all his strength to hit a Phenomenal Forearm but Brock kicked out of it and you could see AJ's confidence start to wane. He tried to press on with a series of punches and kicks but Brock almost shrugged them off before F-5ing Styles for a second time to get the win. After the match though, John Cena rushed the ring and started attacking Brock from behind. He yelled at him, "You The Beast right? Well Imma lock you where a beast belong, in a cage, homie!" The steel cage started to descend around the two superstars as they brawled, but once it was down Brock, despite being fatigued, gained the advantage. He slammed Cena into the cage twice before catching him in an F-5 on the rebound to put him down. The Brock grabbed the mic Cena had used and said, "Ok kid, you wanna raise the stakes for One Night Stand? Well it IS an ECW event, and my manager IS Paul Heyman, so why don't we take it to the extreme? Me versus you Cena inside a Steel Cage at One Night Stand for the WWE Championship. I will end your short career."
