DuBois narrowly makes weight at the eleventh hour to keep UFC 294 PPV alive and well
Bobby Symes -- Bleacher Report MMA Writer

The last to step on the scales, UFC welterweight champion J.J. DuBois was finally able to make the 170-pound limit during his second weigh-in to preserve his title defense against Colby Covington.

DuBois weighed in at 171 pounds during his first weigh-in earlier in the day and looked drained doing so, needing help to get on the scales and off it, putting tomorrow night's main event in jeopardy as DuBois had just one hour to lose a pound.

DuBois would return to the scales forty four minutes later with no assistance and made weight. He was not present at the ceremonial weigh-in nor the final press conference but UFC president Dana White confirmed that the fight is still scheduled and as far as he knows, DuBois is in good standing to compete tomorrow.

"He's fine," White told the media, "I don't know why he's not here but he's fine, you can ask him when you see him."

J.J. DuBois to defend title against Nate Diaz at UFC 301
Marc Raimondi -- ESPN.com MMA Staff Writer

J.J. DuBois will defend his welterweight title against Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 301 on September 21 in London, UFC president Dana White announced Wednesday on social media.

ESPN has Diaz ranked fourth in the welterweight rankings behind former champion Jorge Masvidal, Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington who have been DuBois' last three opponents, all of whom he defeated and finished.

It will be DuBois' third title defense and his first since knocking out Covington earlier this year in April via a second round knockout. DuBois submitted Nate's older brother, Nick, in his second UFC sight.

J.J. DuBois, Tyron Woodley to main event UFC 307 for DuBois' fourth title defense
Marc Raimondi -- ESPN.com MMA Staff Writer

After handing Nate Diaz his first non-technical knockout, J.J. DuBois will return to the ring next March to defend his UFC Welterweight title against Tyron Woodley, the fourth ranked welterweight in the world.

Woodley is a former champion with a wrestling background that should be able to negate some of DuBois' offensive wrestling. Diaz and others have fared well with DuBois on their feet but the tide seems to turn once DuBois, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in wrestling, gets the fight to the ground.

Kamaru Usman, who defeated Woodley for the belt back in 2019, was able to have success on the ground against DuBois before being knocked out in the fourth round.
