DuBois continues trek up the rankings with UFC 274 fight against Wonderboy
Mike Billingsley -- ESPN.com MMA Reporter

Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson and J.J. "The Golden One" DuBois have agreed to fight on the main card of UFC 274 in June.

Both fighters are coming off wins and are looking to crack the top ten with DuBois ranked tenth and Thompson two spots ahead at number eight. With Kamaru Usman's recent title defense against Santiago Ponzinibbio and having already beat the majority of the fighter ranked ahead of DuBois and Thompson, this could be a potential number one contenders fight.

A classic striker vs. grappler matchup, DuBois expressed excitement in facing the 40-year old fan favorite.

"I like his style," said DuBois, "Very different from mine, totally so I appreciate it, it's fun to watch and I can see why people like watching him fight and he looks to be good dude from the outside."

DuBois won a split decision against Robbie Lawler in his fight which improved his ranking although DuBois wasn't happy with the judge's scorecard.

"I don't know which other round he won besides the first one," said the two-time Olympic gold medalist after the fight, "I'm going for the finish every time now because that was ridiculous."

DuBois looking forward to 'clash of the island boys' in upcoming fight with Edwards
Mike Billingsley -- ESPN.com MMA Reporter

On November 19, J.J. DuBois will square off the in the octagon against Leon Edwards in a battle between two top ranked welterweights. But for DuBois, the fight will be about something much bigger than rankings or championships.

"To have two guys from the islands, fighting on a pay-per-view card, probably the best fight of the night, it means a lot. I hope we inspire the kids from back home," said DuBois, who is from Haiti, of his fight against Edwards, who is Jamaican.

Edwards was born in Jamaica and moved to England when he was nine while DuBois had a similar path, immigrating to America from Haiti at twelve.

It's been a long layoff for Edwards who hasn't fought due to COVID restrictions and injuries since 2020. He's currently ranked sixth at WW and a win over No. 8 DuBois could be the extra push needed to get a title shot against new champion and rival Jorge Masvidal.

For DuBois, fresh off a win against Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson that landed him inside of the top ten, his meteoric climb continues with two more opponents in mind for the former Olympian: Colby Covington and Masvidal.

"I'll be UFC champion by this time next year," DuBois told mentor and former UFC champion Daniel Cormier on his ESPN podcast 'DC & RC', "I want to beat Colby next and then fight Masvidal for the strap, get that thing put around me and then I'll be the greatest combat athlete of all time."

DuBois is a two-time Olympic gold medalist at wrestling and a three-time NCAA D1 national champion.

Nate Diaz confirms that he's been offered DuBois fight but not interested
Ariel Helwani -- The Ringer

UFC fighter Nate Diaz appeared on The MMA Hour Show hosted by Ariel Helwani and confirmed to Helwani that he's been offered to fight J.J. DuBois in a potential number one contender fight at UFC 284 but the younger half of the Diaz brothers is not interested.

DuBois beat Nate's brother Nick in his second fight in the UFC, submitting Nick in the 2nd round back in December of 2020 in a short notice fight for both fighters. Due to this, Nate says he's not interested in fighting DuBois.

Both ranked in the top six, the title picture at welterweight continues to get muddy as DuBois has also previously stated not being interested in fighting neither Kamaru Usman nor Tyron Woodley -- who he considered friends and mentors in the sport -- unless it's in a title fight. Colby Covington has also publicly stated that he plans to hold out for a championship fight against Jorge Masvidal, the current welterweight champion.

Both DuBois and Diaz have expressed interest in fighting Colby but the UFC have yet to offer the fight to either fighter.

Jorge Masvidal, J.J. DuBois to fight for UFC welterweight title at UFC 284
Kevin Campbell -- Yahoo! Sports Combat Columnist

Jorge Masvidal and J.J. DuBois, two of the UFC's most unique stories, will meet to fight for the UFC welterweight title on April 8 at UFC 284.

It will be Masvidal's first title defense since winning the championship in a rematch with Kamaru Usman last year. With Usman sidelined with a hand injury, Masvidal has agreed to take on another prolific wrestler in DuBois who is arguably the greatest wrestler to ever compete in MMA.

A two-time Olympic gold medalist, DuBois has had a meteoric rise since joining the sport, signing with the UFC straight out of the amateurs and fighting the likes of Nick Diaz, Donald Cerrone, Robbie Lawler, Stephen Thomas and Leon Edwards in his first eight fights, finishing all but Thompson and Lawler.

DuBois' last three fights have been nail bitters, winning split decisions against Thompson and Lawler and was down on all three judge's scorecard before submitting Edwards in the final round back in November. DuBois' striking will need to be improved prior to his bout against Masvidal who was able to stuff most of Usman's takedowns in their rematch fight and neutralize Usman's wrestling with his boxing which many consider to be the best among the welterweights.

UFC fighter J.J. DuBois opens up about baby momma(s) trouble on podcast
Natasha Sampson -- The Shade Room Sports

In The Pivot's latest podcast, former NFL players Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor interviewed UFC fighter J.J. DuBois ahead of his title fight against UFC champion Jorge Masvidal. In the two-hour interview, the trio spoke to DuBois about his Haitian heritage, migrating to the United States, winning Olympic gold twice and also DuBois' family life.

"I have a daughter who I didn't see for three weeks until after she was born," DuBois told The Pivot.

DuBois, who has two children by two different women, says that he only occasionally sees his second child due to the strained relationship with the child's mother who is in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend who she cheated on with DuBois.

After a DNA test confirmed it was DuBois' offspring, the couple tried to get DuBois to relinquish his parental rights which he refused to do but due to his schedule as an Olympic wrestler at the time, DuBois was only granted supervised visits by a judge.

"She didn't even know I won a gold medal until like a year ago," DuBois says of his daughter, "She's getting into track and sports so that's our bond but to be honest, it doesn't even feel like a real father-daughter relationship."

DuBois says he is on better terms with his first child's mother who he cheated on with his second baby's mother. DuBois says he's working on having both of them in the arena when he faces off against Masvidal later this month.
