July 3rd, 2018

Portland, OR -- The blossoming NHL franchise in Seattle, set to begin negotiations with free agents for the first time in organization history, finalized and announced the details of their American Hockey League affiliate that they are about to sign players for.

The Renegades' affiliate will be located in Portland, Oregon and be known as the Portland Aces. The team will play in both the Moda Center and Memorial Coliseum, splitting the neighboring arenas with the city's WHL team, the Portland Winterhawks. With their AHL team in nearby Portland, the Renegades are looking to establish their footprint as a premier organization in the Pacific Northwest. Portland's jerseys and logo were also unveiled. The team name was chosen to represent the organizational belief that the AHL roster is the club's 'Ace in the Hole'.

The team chose a similar scheme to it's NHL parent team, utilizing a purple, yellow and black color scheme. "We wanted to create some internal consistency and have a distinctive brand as an organization, while at the same time allowing for our AHL guys to have their own identity." said Renegades GM Kelly McCrimmon. The team will wear white at home and yellow on the road with a black alternative that will be worn in both road and home games

Seattle Free Agency Recap

Signing former Hart Memorial Trophy winner Joe Thornton was a huge coup for Seattle this offseason

August 18th, 2018

Seattle, WA - The Seattle Renegades have announced their 2018 free agent signings, with the team making some expensive moves to reach the salary minimum as well as signing several younger players to fill out their AHL squad.

Headlining the free agents signed by Seattle are center Joe Thornton, winger Mike Cammalleri, and goalie Jonathan Bernier, with all three veterans inking one year deals with the expansion Renegades. Thornton, the 39 year old former MVP and long time San Jose Shark, felt disrespected by the offers he was getting from San Jose after his second straight season coming off of knee surgery and thus left to play elsewhere. He ultimately chose Seattle, with both feeling that the playmaking center would get every opportunity to lead the team in its inaugural campaign. Cammalleri, a career journeyman, was positively stunned at the offer Seattle gave him and immediately joined a team where he has an uncertain role but is sure to provide veteran leadership. Bernier, perhaps best known for praising Nelson Mandela as "one of the most known athletes in the world", was looking for a much longer contract going into his age 30 season but found a willing home in Seattle when offered nearly the total amount of his desired 3 year contract in one year. The goalie looks to lead a rotation in goal with former Blue Jacket Joonas Korpisalo, who was selected by Seattle in the expansion draft.

The Renegades also signed several young UFAs that had been renounced by their former teams to help fill Portland's roster. Among these are former Minnesota Wild defenseman Nick Seeler and former Dallas Star center Gemel Smith, both of whom are young players that Seattle believes can help the NHL squad in a pinch and star for the Aces. The team also signed former Toronto Marlie Frédérik Gauthier, with the 23 year old Gauthier following his former coach to Seattle on a 2 way contract.

RFA Oskar Sundqvist was given an offer by the team that he couldn't refuse, ultimately "returning" to Seattle on a one year deal.

it's what happens when I need to hit the salary floor and want as few of the free agents as possible because they're all worse than my existing players :camdead:

:rip: I didn't look too closely at the pic, just the dimensions. Blame google (and ESPN) for having that be the fourth image when you search his name. Fixed, thanks CC

Seattle signs first round pick and local talent Cyrus Rodriguez

Local product Cyrus Rodgriuez looks to become the face of Seattle hockey

August 31st, 2018

Seattle, WA - The Seattle Renegades and first round draft pick Cyrus Rodriguez have agreed to a three year entry contract worth a total of $2.775 million, with the teenager looking to sign with the team as soon as possible. The deal ensures the 18 year old top prospect will be spending at least the next three years of his hockey career with the expansion Renegades as the team is looking to establish itself and find a young, homegrown talent to sign. Rodriguez certainly seems to fit the bill, with the left handed youngster grading out well in every skill and showing elite potential.

Rodriguez is also a wonderful local success story as he grew up in the city of Seattle and played his junior hockey for the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds, making him quite the local product. Taking the ice for the Renegades would would make him the city's second ever NHL player and Seattle is delighted that they were able to select Rodriguez with the #3 overall pick in June's draft.

The team decided they could not wait to sign Rodriguez to his entry level contract, with the Renegades front office wanting Rodriguez to be mentored by Joe Thornton and the team's other veterans. Rodriguez looks to potentially slot in as the primary 2-way player between Seattle and Portland as the organization starts to finalize its roster for the upcoming season, but he will be given every opportunity to shine as the season progresses.
