Show Opener Promo: Ric Flair
Monday Night RAW started with a totally different stage, backdrop and opening music... the presentation from Monday Nitro. Ric Flair and not Vince McMahon came out to start the show and announced that he had purchased a large minority stake in WWE, that also gave him rights to the Monday night programming. RAW was officially no more and would be replaced with WCW Monday Nitro effective immediately. Flair then smiled as a 50/50 crowd both cheered and booed the announcement. He continued, "My first order of business as GM of Nitro is to get some of those WCW titles back in the hands of WCW wrestlers. Mansa, the United States Champion, feels the Nation of Domination's vision can be best achieved with Nitro, and he has signed an exclusive contract with us. Mansa will defend his title in a rematch against Shinsuke Nakamura, who also joins the Nitro roster. Mansa has fired his Nation stablemates Kofi Kingston and R-Truth and replaced them with two original members of the Nation of Domination in Mark Henry and Kama Mustafa. The World Tag Team champions, Too Cool, will defend the World Tag Team titles against Nitro's Road Warriors. And finally, the World Heavyweight Champion, Edge, will take on a returning Hollywood Hulk Hogan in the main event for the Big Gold Belt, the #1 prize in all of sports entertainment.... WOOOOO!"

Match #1: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Mansa (c) w/ Nation of Domination | One on One Normal Match | United States Championship
Nakamura wasn't 100% after the abuse that was delivered to him by the Nation in his steel cage match with Mansa, and it showed. Mansa was a lot fresher and just came out of the gates very aggressively and never relented. Nakamura was able to get a bit of offense in, but ultimately succumbed to a super kick and a cutter finisher, as Mansa retained the United States Championship that he won just a night before. After the match, Ric Flair came out and awarded Mansa a new, WCW focused redesign of the belt to replace his old WWE one.

Match #2: Road Warriors vs. Too Cool (c) | Two on Two Tag Team | World Tag Team Championships
The Road Warriors didn't wait for the match to get started to inflict pain, attacking Too Cool from behind during their entrance. Too Cool defended themselves, but eventually lost the opening skirmish, which only made the match more difficult for them. The Road Warriors wore down the more powerful Rikishi, taking him out of commission and leaving Scotty 2 Hotty to fend for himself. As quick and agile as he was, that was no match for the power of Hawk and Animal, who dropped him with a Doomsday Device to win the World Tag Team Championships and make them exclusive to WCW Nitro.

Main Event: Hollywood Hulk Hogan w/ The nWo vs. Edge (c) w/ Lita | One on One | World Heavyweight Championship
This was supposed to be a one on one match, and technically speaking, it was. But even the Ultimate Opportunist, Edge, had a look of concern on his face from seeing the entire nWo: Hogan, Hall, Nash and Syxx, make their way to the ring. He had Lita at his side, but that wasn't nearly enough to keep things balanced. Edge refused to go down easily though. He was the better wrestler and was in complete control of the match despite the numerous distractions from the nWo. But when Hogan kicked out of the Spear, things went sideways. Lita panicked and tossed a chair into the ring against Edge's wishes. The referee went to grab it and throw it away, but while his back was turned, Hogan hit Edge with a Low Blow from behind. When the referee got back into things, all he saw was the patented Leg Drop from Hogan as he pinned Edge to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Hogan celebrated with his nWo buddies with the "Too Sweet" before spray-painting his brand new title with the nWo logo. After the nWo left, Edge and Lita got into a heated argument over the loss that ended with Lita slapping him and walking out of the arena on her own, leaving Edge championship-less and girlfriend-less to end the show.

Show Opener Promo: Mr. McMahon
Vince McMahon came out on Smackdown and immediately rubbished the events of the night before as a drunken tirade from Ric Flair. Flair did not, in fact, own the Monday Night TV slow, and all the WCW performers who had come back alongside him were now FIRED. RAW and Smackdown! were set to resume as normally scheduled going forwards, with a few subtle changes to the rosters on either side.

Match #1: Billy Gunn vs. Shelton Benjamin | One on One Normal Match
Billy Gunn made his return to the WWE on Smackdown! and made a bold move calling out one half of the tag team champs in Shelton Benjamin. Shelton agreed to a one on one match with Gunn, and it was clear from the beginning that he was just the better wrestler. Billy did manage to catch him off guard at one point and hit a Famouser, but Shelton kicked out at two. He later picked up the win with a Superkick and Jumping Complete Shot. After the match, Haas came out to congratulate Benjamin, but before doing so, flung Gunn out of the ring mercilessly. Not the best return ever for the WWE vet.

Middle Card Promo: Apollo
Apollo came out and complained that he'd been ignored for far too long in WWE, but now with the Intercontinental Championship around his waist, NOBODY could ignore him any longer. "There's a guy around here, just joined Smackdown! in fact. He came up the same time as me, but has gotten way more opportunities and squandered them. Well, Bulk, I'm about to give you one more, come on down." Bulk came out and thanked the crowd for the warm reception, then thanked Apollo for being stupid enough to just hand him a shot at the belt for no reason. The two trash talked each other for a while, but neither was able to incite the other enough to come to blows and they both eventually exited the ring without getting physical.

Middle Card Promo: Donny Zenk
Though he was no longer a member of Team Angle (formerly known as American Alpha), Donny Zenk still had every intention of proving how great both he and his country truly were. Zenk told the crowd to shut up and listen to what he had to say, but before he could go any further, he was the one who ended up being interrupted. Out came the Cruiserweight Champion, Rey Mysterio, who clearly had a serious bone to pick with Zenk, "You think your All-American look, your flag logos and your blonde hair make you American man? I've done way more for this country and company than you ever will, representing it as Cruiserweight champion." Zenk looked down on Mysterio with disgust and stated, "Rey, you're everything that's wrong with the direction this country's headed, and I'm not even going to elaborate on why. It's a joke that someone like you holds such a prestigious title." Rey was not having that insult at all and leapt up and kicked Zenk clean in the face then scrambled out of the ring holding up his title saying, "If you think I don't deserve this, how about you try to take it from me?" Zenk rubbed his sore cheek but grinned as he'd gotten exactly what he wanted from this exchange.

Main Event: The Undertaker vs. The Rock vs. John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar | Fatal 4-Way | #1 Contender Match
In order to select a new number one contender for the WWE Championship, Shane McMahon decided to have the top four guys on Smackdown besides the champion face off. This one went for a long time, with each guy looking like they could win at various points in the match, and the finish was excellent. Brock Lesnar hit the F-5 on Undertaker but before he could pin was tossed out of the ring by Cena, who then hit Taker with the F-U. He was about to grab a huge win as the underdog in this matchup but The Rock returned to the ring and locked Cena in a Sharpshooter and forced him to tap out. The Rock is now the new #1 Contender for Smackdown's top title, will he be able to beat Kurt Angle for it?
