WWE Draft Announced as Roster Shakeup Commences

Image
ESPN.com
The Associated Press

HARTFORD, CT --- WWE is set for a major shakeup as a brand split is planned for the company, as well as a shift to a 25 week per year model, giving the superstars a lengthy offseason reminiscent of the other major professional sports leagues. Eric Bischoff has been placed in charge of Monday Night RAW, with Stephanie McMahon being given full control of Friday Night Smackdown!, and the two will be able to select from a pool of 60+ superstars to build out their rosters in an upcoming draft. Both Stephanie and Eric Bischoff will be given a starting budget of $3.25M to sign superstars and set up their first shows, with them having full control over match bookings, free agent signings and releases, arena upgrades, stage crews and all the other intricacies that go into running a weekly WWE show. Additionally, the company plans to redesign the WWE Championship and award it to the RAW brand, while Smackdown! will receive a rebranded World Heavyweight Championship, now called the Universal Championship, as its main championship. RAW will have the United States Championship as its secondary title with Smackdown! claiming the Intercontinental Championship. Next, the Women's Championship is set to be rebranded as the RAW Women's Championship, while the Divas Championship is being brought back as the Smackdown! Women's Championship. Finally, the World and WWE Tag Team Championships will be renamed and rebranded as the RAW and Smackdown! Tag Team Championships and placed on their respective shows.

Hollywood Hogan goes First in Historic WWE Draft

Image
ESPN.com
The Associated Press

HARTFORD, CT --- The first WWE Draft in years is complete and it was a historic one as Eric Bischoff took his guy from back when he run WCW, Hollywood Hogan, with the number one overall pick. Stephanie McMahon followed that up by drafting the People's Champion, to the People's Show, Smackdown!, with the second overall pick in the draft. Bischoff countered by taking Stone Cold Steve Austin with his second pick and following that up with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall as RAW's 3rd and 4th picks in the draft to begin assembling the nWo. He rounded out his top 5 picks with Kane. Smackdown took Macho Man Randy Savage with their second pick and continued the old school trend by picking up Ultimate Warrior and Yokozuna with their 3rd and 4th picks before taking Stacy Keibler 5th in a surprise move as their top women's division superstar. The full results of the draft can be seen below:

The Deadman Joins Monday Night RAW

Image
ESPN.com
The Associated Press

HARTFORD, CT --- Due to the limited budgets of both Monday Night RAW and Friday Night Smackdown, not every superstar in the draft pool was selected on draft night. In fact, a number of top quality talents were left in the free agent pool, and Eric Bischoff was quick to pick up quite possibly the best of those talents. The Undertaker will be joining Monday Night RAW for $70,000 on a 5 week contract to help bolster the roster. With Kane already on RAW, this gives Eric Bischoff the ability to book the dominant Brothers of Destruction tag team, while also using Undertaker as a premier singles competitor. RAW already looks to be well on track to a great start heading into its first show in Lafayette, Louisiana on Monday.

Oh also in case it's not clear, I'm playing as the RAW GM (Bischoff) against the CPU (Smackdown GM Stephanie McMahon) so I'll only be posting what happens on RAW and the comparison to Smackdown.

I'm not into wrestling anymore but the Champ in an opener seems strange. Is it just because your roster is so small?

I guess you have to level up your arenas? Hogan in a high school gym is wild :pgdead: but solid layout.. Easy to follow.

Yeah small roster, but often times irl the champion opens the show just not usually with a match.

► Show Spoiler
Mid Card: Shelton Benjamin vs. Edge | Normal :onehalfstar:
Edge got the victory over Shelton Benjamin relatively easily in this one, but it was not a strong matchup between the two superstars.
► Show Spoiler
Main Event: Hollywood Hogan vs. Bubba Ray Dudley | Normal :twohalfstar:
