Bulls strike out on recruiting targets Anderson, Moore as official visits season heats up
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

There's a lot of months left in the 2026 recruiting cycle but for the USF Bulls, it's off to a less than ideal start as a worrying trend continues.

Three-star linebacker Brent Anderson out of the Florida panhandle committed to the FAU Owls over the likes of SMU and USF. While Anderson was always a lukewarm target of the Bulls, it's never a good thing to lose a head-to-head battle with one of the lower ranked in-state programs.

The more concerning news was when four-star offensive tackle Tyler Moore released his new top five which included Alabama, Miami, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Florida with intentions of visiting all five this fall. Missing from the list were the Bulls who had been on Moore's trail but once again struck out on a top-ranked offensive linemen recruit.

Since 2021, USF has signed just two four-star or higher offensive linemen and hasn't signed a four-star tackle since 2020. The last time they've signed two or more four-star offensive linemen in a single class was in 2019 but in the past few seasons, the Bulls have struggled when it comes to landing the creme-de-la-creme on the offensive line.

The state of Florida already is lacking in that department compared to other positions and USF cannot afford to continually whiff on these prospects as its showing on the field of play. Even with a 1,300 yard rusher last season, the Bulls run game has at times lacked consistency and instead relied on big plays from their talented running backs.

USF Takes Care of San Diego State Aztecs Handily, 48-12
Even with the halftime lead, San Diego State and their fans knew they were in a world of trouble. Their starting quarterback was injured, three end zone trips had resulted in just three field goals and despite shutting out the Bulls for nearly the entire half, they only had a five point lead.

The Bulls would shut the Aztecs out for the entire second half and scoring 41 unanswered points in the 48-12 win over San Diego State to extend their home winning streak.

True freshman Jed White exploded for a touchdown on the first drive of the second half, getting to the corner and turning the jets on. On the next Bulls possession, it was running back David Fuller's turn to get to the edge and score. White would have another long touchdown, this time up the gut to jump start the fourth quarter as USF ran away with the game.

Bulls' top running back Fuller to miss Alabama game with abdominal injury
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

South Florida running back David Fuller will not be traveling with the team to Tuscaloosa, as first reported by CBS Sports.

Fuller, who rushed for 1331 yards last season, has dealt with a string of injuries in the last two games and had been a frequent visitor to the trainer's tent this season during games. His most recent injury was an apparent abdominal one that forced him to miss the last quarter in the team's win over San Diego State.

A former five-star prospect, Fuller will b replaced by recruiting classmate and fellow five-star Derrick Green as the team's lead back. Green has deal with injuries of his own, missing time in 2024 but still rushing for 441 yards and averaging six yards per carry. Green has 221 yards rushing on the season.

Bulls, Crimson Tide Go Blow For Blow With Hall, Alabama Coming Out On Top
USF's defense was holding up through a half against Alabama's high powered offense, intercepting Riley Hall three times and surrendering just one touchdown as they entered halftime with a seven point lead.

After holding steadfast in the third quarter, the levees would break open in the fourth quarter as the Tide would score 24 points and complete the 48-41 comeback victory over the Bulls on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama took the lead on a 62-yard pass to Michael Moses with 4:27 left in the game. After USF tied the game with a long touchdown drive, it didn't take long for Moses to get behind the Bulls secondary, hauling in a 66-yard pass on third down to get the ball on the Alabama three-yard line. Two plays later, Morgan would punch it in and score the eventual game winning touchdown.

The Bulls and quarterback Nick Williams, who threw for 455 yards and four touchdowns, would get the ball on Alabama's side of the field but Williams would be stripped on fourth and 15 to seal the victory.
