USF CB Francois expected to out vs. Florida; potentially sit rest of regular season
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer
USF junior cornerback Pierre Francois is "not expected" to play against the Florida Gators this weekend according to USF defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox. Francois, who earned All-SEC honors last year, leads the team with seven pass breakups. He also had 32 tackles and 7 tackles for loss on the season with one interception.
Francois left last week's game with an upper body injury and did not return. Wilcox and head coach Malcolm Francois did not comment on the extent of the injury, saying they're focused on getting some of the younger players ready for extended play down the stretch of the season.
Marcus Hodge, whose primarily played special teams this season with nineteen tackles, slid into nickel against Florida State following Francois' injury while Jay Burke moved from nickel to the boundary. The two surrendered a 23-yard completion on their first drive together in what appeared to be a coverage bust but were solid after that. True freshman Jeremiah McCullough could also get some burn at corner as well.

Florida Fails to Pull Off Upset Against South Florida
There are weight classes for a reason. When Florida unloaded it's best shot on the South Florida Bulls, the Gators had a mere six point lead heading into the half.
When it was the Bulls turn, they would end the game on a 30-0 run to close out the Gators with a 50-23 win on Saturday.
Florida appeared to have weathered the storm early in the third quarter after allowing the Bulls to take the lead to open the second half twice, once on the second half kick off on a touchdown that was called back and on a 42-yard touchdown pass to James Harper that counted. Florida was only able to respond with a field goal but it was enough to retake the lead.
The Gators defense would sack White twice on the ensuing possession, forcing a 4th and 32. But after a great punt by the Bulls special teams unit, the Bulls defense showed up to play with a pick-six on back-to-back offensive plays from the Gators. The USF defense would shutout the Gators offense for the rest of the night, making five straight stops including the two interceptions to overcome their first half deficiencies.
Anthony Reid had thrown for 256 yards in the first half but struggled in the second along with the rest of the Florida offense.

Recruiting Class in Review: Bulls hit it out the park at positions of need with the class that helped it win its second national championship
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider
While the Class of 2025 would bring in future Heisman winner Jed White, the 2024 Bulls recruiting class was a strong and needed one. The 2022 class was good, the 2023 class was great when healthy and the 2024 was just what the doctor ordered as the Bulls would continue to stack the talent needed for an eventual national champion. It's a bit top heavy but those at the top were all key factors in helping the program win its second national championship.
When it was all said and done, how does this class grade out? The grading criteria is as follows: 1 star for non-contributor, 2 star for depth player, 3 star for contributor, 4 star for impact starter, 5 star for a star player.
2024 USF Bulls Recruiting Class
WR Jason Barbour [WR #2]: 6'2", 212lbs | Fairview Shores, FL | 5-star | 4.36 40-yd dash, 300 Bench Press, 300 Squat
Career Stats » 204 receptions, 2977 yards, 21 touchdowns.
Analysis » The highest ranked player in the class, Barbour made an instant impact his freshman season with 841 yards receiving and would follow that up with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Despite sharing the field and targets with some talented receivers, he still finished less than 300-yards shy of the school record for most career receiving yards.
Grade » 5-star
WR Darius Downs [WR #5]: 6'4", 215lbs | Miami, FL | 5-star | 4.44 40-yd dash, 240 Bench Press, 280 Squat
Career Stats » 178 receptions, 2752 yards, 23 touchdowns.
Analysis » If not for a 'down' junior season, could have also had a crack at the career receiving yard mark. He caught over 130 receptions his first two seasons and had over 1,000 yards as a freshman and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore.
Grade » 5-star
TE Vincent Everett [TE #2]: 6'1", 241lbs | Plantation, FL | 5-star | 4.62 40-yd dash, 240 Bench Press, 280 Squat
Career Stats » 156 receptions, 2043 yards, 21 touchdowns, 45 pancakes, sacks allowed.
Analysis » Arguably the school's best tight end ever, Everett could have wrecked the tight end record book with his production if not for an injury that sidelined all but three games of his sophomore season. He rebounded strong as a junior with fourteen touchdowns and 1194 receiving yards, earning him that fifth star. He also developed and got better as he was liability in the running game as a freshman but by his junior season, he was one of the SEC's better blockers at tight end.
Grade » 5-star
LB Danny Love [LB #2]: 6'4", 238lbs | Tampa, FL | 4-star | 4.58 40-yd dash, 420 Bench Press, 620 Squat
Career Stats » 91 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, interception.
Analysis » While the first three players were slam dunks, Love is complicated. He didn't play much his first two seasons due to being behind Dallas Gross and in 2026, he rotated at linebacker and finished the season with 32 tackles and this season, injuries caused him to miss time. When he's been healthy, he's been good with nine tackles for loss and being one of the leaders of an improved defense.
Grade » 3-star
DT James Faulk [DT #6]: 6'4", 275lbs | Tampa, FL | 4-star | 4.92 40-yd dash, 435 Bench Press, 570 Squat
Career Stats » 2 tackles.
Analysis » Faulk was a miss by the recruiting services and the Bulls staff as he might have never been worthy of the high ranking that he received. A limited athlete, he just never could get onto the field.
Grade » 1-star
HB Jason Finley [HB #14]: 6'1", 212lbs | Miami, FL | 4-star | 4.46 40-yd dash, 255 Bench Press, 310 Squat
Career Stats » 248 carries, 1401 yards, 11 touchdowns.
Analysis » As good as Finley has been at times, his career look numbers are what one really good season for a running back looks like these days. He didn't play much his first two seasons and split time his last two. When a redshirt freshman in Dion Rogers is already almost catching up in terms of production, it doesn't look good for the postmortem on Finley's college career.
Grade » 3-star
DT William Levine [DT #9]: 6'4", 292lbs | Orlando, FL | 4-star | 4.94 40-yd dash, 425 Bench Press, 630 Squat
Career Stats » 49 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 12 sacks.
Analysis » While the counting numbers aren't necessarily there, Levine has been one of the team's better interior defensive lineman since his freshman season and has been their best interior lineman this season.
Grade » 4-star
WR Ryan Wagner [WR #32]: 6'3", 209lbs | Coral Spring, FL | 4-star | 4.32 40-yd dash, 285 Bench Press, 325 Squat
Career Stats » 117 receptions, 1624 yards, 15 touchdowns.
Analysis » Wagner got off to a great starter with 35 receptions in each of his first two seasons, averaging a crazy 17.9 yards per reception in 2025 when Malcolm Francois Jr. was sidelined all year with a knee injury. Francois' return caused Wagner to catch just sixteen passes last year and this season, with him being the preemptive top receiver coming into the season, he has just 31 receptions for 318 yards and just one touchdown. The move from slot to the outside wasn't an easy one for Wagner and ultimately, he didn't live up to the hype.
Grade » 3-star
WR James Harper [WR #41]: 6'5", 231lbs | Beeville, TX | 4-star | 4.44 40-yd dash, 265 Bench Press, 205 Squat
Career Stats » 17 receptions, 162 yards, 2 touchdowns.
Analysis » Harper's play this season gets him his second star but still, all in all, he's been a disappointment. He has another year of eligibility remaining after redshirting as a freshman but his prospects aren't looking too great next season either with the Bulls bringing in two five-star receivers with similar builds.
Grade » 2-star
DE Kyle Swain [DE #13]: 6'2", 253lbs | Prichard, AL | 4-star | 4.78 40-yd dash, 420 Bench Press, 560 Squat
Career Stats » 56 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 13 sacks.
Analysis » Swain is a poster boy for why development matters, even for four-star recruits. He did not play at all his first two seasons and got on the field last season for the first time and made a big impact with fourteen tackles for loss and seven sacks. Despite moving to a new position in the team's 3-4 defense as a five-technique as opposed to an edge rusher, Swain kept up the production with fifteen tackles for loss and six sacks on the season. He could declare for the draft but if he does return, Swain could be in the running for all types of awards as a senior.
Grade » 4-star
QB Jay Jackson [QB #21]: 5'11", 204lbs | Miami, FL | 3-star | 4.66 40-yd dash, 255 Bench Press, 350 Squat
Career Stats »33 of 54, 363 yards, 3 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 41 carries, 284 yards, touchdown.
Analysis » A practice field Heisman, Jackson has gotten a ton of praise from the coaching staff and teammates alike from his performances in spring ball and fall camp but its year four now and the little play on the field we've seen from him hasn't been to impressive. If Jed White declares as many people expect him to, Jackson will finally get his opportunity to show why he's been the darling of the scout team.
Grade » 2-star
T Marcus Clark [T #50]: 6'5", 288lbs | St. Joseph, MO | 3-star | 5.16 40-yd dash, 435 Bench Press, 560 Squat
Career Stats » No stats.
Analysis » Clark could potentially start next season at right tackle in his fifth season but the career backup will need to fend off transfer Andrew Smart.
Grade » 1-star
G Robbie Wade [G #78]: 6'0", 309lbs | Miami, FL | 3-star | 4.98 40-yd dash, 425 Bench Press, 630 Squat
Career Stats » No stats.
Analysis » Wade is in line to be the team's starting left guard next season as long as he can beat out sophomore-to-be Nick Matthews.
Grade » 1-star
Superlative Awards
Most Important Signing: While either of the top receivers might be considered the answer, Everett was a big deal at the time because the cupboard was a bit bare at tight end in terms of a pure receiving tight end as shown by the fact that Everett was able to make an impact right away.
Most Productive Signing: Barbour's consistency gets the slight edge over Downs who at his peak was a better receiver than Barbour but during their junior season, Barbour pulled away in terms of production.
Biggest Bust of the Class: While Harper was disappointing, Faulk has been so bad that it's easy to forgot how highly ranked he was.
Most Untapped Potential: Harper and Finley are good answers here although with Finley, he got the opportunities as a sophomore and junior that Harper did not get until this season.
Biggest Steal of the Class: It's tough to consider Swain a 'steal' given that he was a four-star but he was the 13th ranked defensive end coming out of high school and that certainly isn't the fact now. Swain might be a top ten -- maybe even top five -- defensive end in all of college football.
Biggest Lost of the Class: While USC Kelvin Ware (95 ovr) is probably the best player the Bulls didn't land, center M.J. Williams (96 ovr) is the toughest lost because the Texas product committed to....Tulsa. Since starting last season, he has 58 pancakes and has surrendered just thirteen sacks.

Hostility Abounds in Tampa as USF Knocks Off UCF
With the news being disseminated before the game that this would indeed be junior USF quarterback Jed White's last home game, it was a bittersweet moment as White took the field along with the senior class for Senior Night.
Bulls fans won't ever see White in their home stadium ever and he certainly left a lasting memory in his final performance, scoring seven total touchdowns and leading the Bulls to a 66-30 victory over rival UCF.
The 36-point victory marked the third straight game against the Knights that the Bulls scored over fifty points and fifth straight win as well as the most points scored ever in the series. It also closed the chapter on UCF's winless season in what was likely Darrell Hazell's final game at UCF. In eight seasons, Hazell beat the Bulls just once in 2022 and finished with more than seven wins only in 2023. Since then, the Knights have finished 7-6 twice and 4-8 last season.
USF head coach Malcolm Francois Sr. didn't let the Knights nor Hazell quietly go into the night, opting to give White one more carry with 15 seconds left in the game on a four-yard touchdown run. The touchdown gave White his 23rd rushing touchdown of the season, matching last year's total in his Heisman campaign. Francois' reasoning to the media after the game, however, was more sentimental.
"He threw an interception on the previous drive," said Francois of the decision to not kneel after running back Dion Rogers' 57-yard run on the first play of the drive put the Bulls within scoring territory, "I wanted Jed [White] to have that moment."
