Bulls land second four-star offensive linemen in Georgia's Ben Brown; first since 2021 class
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider
USF got a present before Early Signing Day with four-star offensive tackle Ben Brown, who many expected to carry his recruitment into National Signing Day, committed to the Bulls over Minnesota and Clemson.
Brown, the seventh ranked offensive tackle in the class, also held offers from UCF and Louisville among others. Brown joins 4-star guard Lamar Felder in the Bulls 2028 recruiting class, giving them two four-star offensive linemen in the same class since 2021. In that cycle, they signed Joel Dixon out of Louisiana and Oklahoma's Brad Jones, who was a two-way lineman coming out of high school. You have to go back one more year for the last time USF signed two 'pure' four-star OL in Brian Smith and Derek Charles. Smith and Charles would go on to form one of the better offensive lines in school history, paving the way for Troy Henry's Heisman campaign and a national championship.
Physically, Brown has a ways to go as he was last measured at six-foot-two and 262 pounds. A move to offensive guard is now out of the picture for the Georgia product although he's only played left tackle in high school. Both Brown and Felder are a bit on the finesse side when its come to their style of play but a few springs in the weight room could toughen them up.
Four-star tight end Josh Smith is the last big name on the Bulls recruiting board as they head into the recruiting dead period. Smith is expected to decide between the Bulls, Minnesota and Oklahoma State. Hometown UConn was in the picture for a while but have gone in a different direction, getting commitments from two tight ends this past month.

A mosquito on an elephant's tail, Alabama must shake off USF once more to have another crack at gold
Sean Caesar -- The Athletic Writer
It's been ten years since Alabama last won a national championship and in Tuscaloosa, that's a century. The Tide have had plenty of talented rosters over the years, capable of winning that ever elusive 18th national championship. Standing in the way of the bluest of blue bloods has often been a pesky football program in southwest Florida, right off the I-75 highway with three national championships of their own since Alabama's last won one.
The University of South Florida and the University of Alabama will face on Saturday for the fifth time since their 2017 BCS National Championship rendezvous where the Tide beat the Bulls 27-21. Both programs won that night as it legitimized the Bulls as a college football mainstay, joining the Big 12 the next fall before circumstances would have them end up in the most prestigious of conferences.
Alabama vs. USF Series Since 2017
2023: #17 USF 27, #2 Alabama 21 Game Recap
2023 Sugar Bowl: #4 Alabama 42, #6 USF 31 Game Recap
2024: #15 USF 43, #1 Alabama 41 Game Recap
2025: #11 Alabama 48, #13 USF 41 Game Recap
2026: #1 USF 35, #9 Alabama 28 Game Recap
USF has the 3-2 edge over the Tide in their last five and neither team has won back to back game in the series. If the pattern holds true, Alabama might find itself in the BCS Championship Game for the first time since 2020. They are ranked 3rd in the Coaches Poll but 1st and 2nd in the Media Poll and BCS rankings, respectively. A win over #6 USF would surely punch their ticket in, even if both #1 Michigan State and #3 Louisville get wins over #9 Minnesota and Georgia Tech. The Tide would have wins over three top fifteen programs while Michigan State would have just one and Louisville would have two.
Before Alabama can beg and plead to be allowed in, they first need to actually beat the Bulls. USF isn't likely to roll over, even with their overtime stumble on the road in October against 5-7 Auburn. Besides getting back at the state of Alabama, USF has the chance to win the SEC in its first two seasons in the conference as well as win their seventh straight Power 5 conference championship after winning five straight in the Big 12. A win would also shake up the BCS rankings and USF, who many took out of the picture following their loss to Auburn, could find themselves back in the national championship picture.
It'll be a tough case to make but they'll have a case, especially if any of the undefeated teams -- Michigan State (vs. #9 Minnesota), Louisville (vs. #5 Georgia Tech), Oklahoma (#18 Texas A&M) -- drop a game. If two of them do, USF would surely leapfrog #5 Georgia Tech, another one-loss team. The Yellow Jackets have only one other ranked opponent on their schedule in #20 Clemson while USF has wins over #8 Mississippi, #19 Ohio State and #13 Florida State.
If that wasn't enough motivation, quarterback Jed White has the chance to be a two time Heisman winner, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since Ohio State's Archie Griffin did so in 1974 and 1975. As if that's not impressive enough, Griffin rushed for 26 touchdowns in four seasons with the Buckeyes. White has 23 on the year and counting.
Alabama and USF will face on Saturday at 3:30 P.M. EST in Atlanta, Georgia.

USF Suffers a Setback Against Alabama as Tide Win SEC
Jed White and Jean-Jacques Francois have carried the USF Bulls offense for most of the season. But when it mattered the most, White and Francois' crucial mistakes were what prevailed above all else.
White's two turnovers in the final seven minutes of the game allowed for Alabama to finish the third quarter on a 13-0 run to beat the Bulls 48-37 and win the SEC championship on Saturday.
The Bulls, after being down 28-7 at one point in the second quarter, had rallied back thanks to a returned missed field goal and a Hail Mary touchdown from quarterback Jay Jackson before the half and a safety gave the Bulls a 37-35 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Alabama was able to take the lead back with a long field goal that was successful this time around. On the ensuing possession, White fumbled the ball while being sacked and it was recovered by Alabama. USF's defense was able to hunker down and limit them to just another field goal after allowing 35 points in the first half.
White had led the offense back down the field with a chance to regain the lead when he heaved a pass into the endzone to Francois who made a diving attempt at the ball but couldn't hang on to it, causing the ball to bounce and land in an Alabama's defender outstretched arms for the interception. The Tide offense got back to churning, scoring on a four-yard run with 3:41 to potentially punch their ticket to the BCS National Championship Game.
Francois also had a fumble in the first quarter which helped Alabama score their first back to back touchdown. Francois suffered a shoulder injury from the hit that caused the fumble but continued to play, reeling in a game high eight catches.
White's three interceptions bring his season total to 20 after throwing just twelve last season with 46 touchdowns. He had left the game with a shoulder injury right before the half after taking a hit on the play before Jackson's Hail Mary attempt. White was non-committal after the game on whether or not he'll play in the Bulls bowl game.

USF to play Minnesota in Citrus Bowl
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer
For the first time since 2018, USF will not be playing in a BCS bowl. Instead, the 11-2 Bulls will face off against 9-4 Minnesota Gophers in the Vrbo Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day.
USF will enter this year's bowl season having scored less than 37 points in each of its two losses. It will be coming off a Dec. 11 defeat at the hands of #2 Alabama, when it surrendered 48 points in the conference championship and turned the ball over five times, including twice in the final seven minutes of the game.
USF entered the season with high expectations. Starting quarterback Jed White came into the year as the favorite to win the 2027 Heisman Trophy after winning the award in 2026 and despite besting his rushing stats from a season ago, White's passing numbers dramatically decreased and he was more turnover prone, accounting for 25 of the team's 31 turnovers, which led the nation.
Minnesota enters the Citrus Bowl having lost its most recent game, a 42-21 blowout in the Big Ten championship game at the hands of Michigan State. The Gophers were riding a four-game winning streak heading into that game, including a win over #10 Nebraska after starting the season 1-2 with losses to Old Dominion and a four-win Indiana team.
The two programs have faced off twice in the last five years, with Minnesota losing both times: once in the 2024 national championship game in a 45-42 thrilling matchup and the other being a 59-41 shellacking last season.
Kickoff for the Citrus Bowl will be at 1 p.m. ET at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
